Yes, deathstrike requires no weapon skill...
Hitting on the other hand, and landing the DS are different. You will need to hit with a weapon to land it, mage weapon does just fine, which magery of course.
There are some neat DS temps out there, they are expensive in silver but very nice, keening is one of the best iv seen. The ability to have resist on a DS is always nice.

deathstrike is sweet, too bad it takes 440 skill points to get full potential...
