I didn't even hear about that...I played SWG beta and it got tired real fast. I hope this game learns from that.

If it doesn't fail like most Star Trek games so far, I'll at least probably give it a shot, maybe.

With the exception of Birth of the Federation, and that's only cause it's a Master of Orion rip off...and Armada 2 (first one was buggy as hell), and even those were rip offs of Command & Conquer/Starcraft...Just about every Star Trek game has been horrible.

And this is coming from someone who today spent 4.99 on a used copy Star Trek Encounters for PS2...turned it off after 5 minutes...but I'll be back. I’m a masochist, I know…freely admit it.

Don't get me wrong, I grew up loving Star Trek. Except for Voyager...which is unwatchable...and to lesser extent the TNG movies. I believe writers and creators alienate their hardcore audience by having contradictory story lines, adjusted histories, and nothing new and exciting in years. Enterprise is okay...but really is not anything we haven’t seen before.

This translates to their video games. I remember hearing something a year or so ago on the radio about video game makers wanting out of contracts for making Star Trek video games, cause the product itself was so lifeless.

So they wanna try an MMORPG? Oy...I remember when SWG came out, it was neat, but I don't think it's doing much better then UO is these days...and with WoW being what it is...and Warhammer all over the place...I think it'll be a flop before it even comes out, if it isn't already.

I'll give it a look. It seemed like it could be fun from what I read.

can you play as spoc ?
I can just imagine all the players characters running around most with identical names based after star trek characters from all the series and movies. New players will not be referred to as n00bs but instead referred to as tribbles and there will be l33t PvPers calling you names and saying to got owned in Klingon. Wow sounds like a game I can skip. Reminds me of when we got the elf characters and everyone was naming them Legolas or some other elf character name from Lord of the Rings. Wonder how many characters are named Legolas in LotR Online. LMAO. :)

I'll be very tempted unless everyone agrees that the gameplay is sub-par. Which is doubtful that it would be actually (BIG budget), unless it is canceled (again)-- many games are.

DIII is the other big release for me - but that is almost guaranteed to be successful.

Oh, IBTM.

I wonder if there will be an option to play in accordance with the true peaceful, non-interventionist ideals of the Federation :)

Star Trek Online is being developed by Cryptic, so on one account, I think it will do well. They made City of Heroes/Villains and that is still doing well. Cryptic doesn't have many games in development or to keep focus on, so also on that account I think it will do well for they'll be able to keep focus on the continued development of Star Trek Online.

Another reason I think it will do well, is that the Star Trek Universe is owned by CBS Studios Inc. -- I doubt they would let anyone make a mockery of Star Trek.

And my third reason I think Star Trek Online will do well is that the Star Trek Universe has such a huge fan base that probably rivals that of the Lord of the Rings fan base, and just look at how well loved The Lord of the Rings Online is by the fan base.

I just seen this in a game informer yesterday.

Most every console star trek game has been greatly disappointing.
I dont hold out much hope for them branching off into an mmo if they cant even make a good console game based off the franchise.
But i hope it does well i do love me some trek ( not a trekkie) I LOVE STAR WARS I LOVE STAR WARS !!!!

PS ( who knows that trekkies wouldnt play it no matter what, those shows went like what 20 something ??? years where there was allway somebody playing them in sindication, and in turn allways a good audiance tuning in to keep the ratings up )

I'm interested but I haven't kept up on it. If anyone has some of the great features info, I'd love to hear about them.

I was never a Star Trek fan, always a Star Wars fan. I tried to watch them but ironically enough the only one I liked is the one which all the ST fans hate, which is Voyager.

I still have my Star Wars toys in the Attic. I bought those not when I was a kid, but in Highschool at the comic book show at the local shop here where the owner knows me well. I used to be the guy's best customer lol. I paid $60 for a Millinium Falcon used with box. Also bought the Ewok Forest Thing. They didn't even have all the pieces. I need to get up there and grab them for Ebaying. Unless I buy a house soon, I'll never have enough room to house all my kewl toys and figures. I still have 2 full comic book boxes which are well worth over a thoughsand dollars.
