No more 'Hunt the Thimble' for me.

Having attended the last 3 of these events and spending an hour or so at each chasing around like a headless chicken I have decided they are not for me.

My grand total of event creatures stands at -
Cupids = 0
Leprechauns = 0
Rabbits = 0

Last night I did circuits of Despise followed by
trip round Destard then
quick run around Ice
tour of Wrong ( where I managed to get myself killed)
then a wander around the Solen Hive
lastly a second run round Despise
Total rabbits spotted = Nil

Someone remarked on Chat last night that nobody has to attend its a matter of choice, this is correct and I have now made one.

So with congratulations to those lucky enough to be successful and I wish Good Luck to all who attend in future, as my luck in these events seems to be non-existant. For me it is to be 'Quoth the Raven'

There was 4 rounds of moongates run last month. I give up on second run and skipped 3rd run. Anyway I managed to win 4th run and win final 2nd part. So, keep trying!

As someone who has found spawn in every event, and came third in the moongate finals (curse you EMs for insisting tamers be visible to fight those mobs... I was happy in my hidey corner! :p ) I will say some of it is luck, but there are a few things you can do to maximise your chances.

1.) Spawn will ONLY appear in the direction you are running. Make sure "Show Approaching Names" is on, and that you focus all your attention on the edge of your screen where they will appear... if running upwards, you should be ignoring the rest of the screen to focus on the names appearing on the top of your screen.

2.) Don't worry about dead ends or small nooks and crannies... try and be constantly running and cover the maximum area possible. The spawn is often mobile anyway, so you want to create the most opportunity to hit it, not the most thorough chance in a small area.

3.) But the moment you get a feeling of "wait, what...?" Stop dead, and use Tab to cycle through all the on-screen targets to get a closer look at what is about. The Cupids were huge and unmissable, and the goblins were unusual on the Brittania map... but the rabbits weren't easily seen unless you looked at their target to be sure. And mine was hidden behind a wall too. I noticed it with step 1.) and confirmed it was a target with this step.

4.) Listen in on event chat and try and get a good idea of where people are searching already. And give them information too... although it increases the chance they'll look where you are next, it will also increase your knowledge of what is real for the next spawn; there's an awful lot of misinformation thrown about during these things (and during the moongate races, people casting fake gates), but make sure you are one of the people filtering for what is most likely and you'll most likely be in the rough spot for the next one.

5.) Stick it out until the bitter end; Yes, it's boring and dull to just leg it about for 2 hours... but the more people feel like that the better odds you have of catching one of the last spawns, with more accurate information and less competition.

6.) And most importantly... just try and chat and have fun with the event community in general. There's no better place to make new friends!

I have a similar record to you, Bobar.
But, that's because I decided I didn't really like the "hunt the thimble" format from the very beginning - in Ilshenar with I-can't-for-the-life-of-me-remember-her-name.
No hate. I just don't enjoy that style of event - they don't really encourage teamwork or community.
But, the EMs also do the rewardless RP events, which I enjoy more, so it's not as if I'm losing out.

Aye I'm not complaining, I attend all the other events when I can and didnt mind not getting anywhere with the chase the EMs event at least I knew what i was doing (or trying to do :)) I'm just saying Ive tried and decided this type of event is not for me.

I have no doubt many people like them and good luck to them, certainly I see plenty running around when I have tried them.

Also a big thank you to the EMs for trying to satisfy everyone. I have always thought they are both doing a great job. Possibly I have a low boredom threshold and when a monster dont spawn right next to me at the start I just get bored.

Whatever, thats just me.
