Nice event overall.

Lag sucks but oh well.....Been putting up with it for years now!!!

I'm still sorting things out. In fact I'm not even sure things are really "over" per se! Gonna check things out again shortly.

But just wanted to say, to Drac. and the others, without being too "gushy" and making everyone think I thought it was perfect (which I don't) it was a fun time, nice job.

Please give us more!!

what was fun about it? I don't mean to bash the developers, at least they tried.

But what was fun? Standing around frozen with 500 people in the same boat?

It was cool seeing Draconi on LS, the lag was a pain, same with all of the dragons.

Didn't get to fight much due to the intense lag and thus didn't get the sword or shield, but after seeing them, wasn't too impressed either as they didn't have any special graphics or abilities to write home about.

I think the key things are that you need to have events spread out (i.e. the Ophidian invasion) and done in such a way that gives people time to be involved. I think the rift to Dark Moonglow will probably stay open for a while and that having blackrock will help your chances while in DM, but beyond that, I didn't see anything that would "change your character forever" or what "loyalties" we were supposed to choose.

Label me as having mostly enjoyed it and enjoyed being a part of a live event, but really confused as to the purpose.

Yeah fun. Wish it would have had a little more to it though. I got a sword and a shield already.

At least they tried.

Unfortunately, it was not much fun past the special effects.

Most of my friends had much less kind words for it.

How did you get sword and shield? screen shots of them? where they in corpses or handed out or what?

On the corpses of the angels.

Mods on them are nothing special. Just blue colored and say Planesword and Planeshield.

Got 5 swords and 7 shields.

Oh my do I feel stupid...

I went back to check on things and discovered that this was definitely NOT over....Not even in an immediate and temporary sense.

Maybe now! But not when I posted.

They were loot. I got two planeswords from the winged creatures and a thread of life from a dark wisp.

They didn't pop in your pack, you had to open the corpse and loot them.

Had fun, now going to bed...

Edit: I must be a slow typer... heh.

the event was ok. though it was exactly the same thing as over on test.

lag was ok at least for me, running 2D here. Only died twice. Wish the story was clearer, or a clue to find more of the story.

as far as choosing sides, totally lost there. Everything attacked me, so I attacked back (fetid esences, dark wisp, those angel thingies) they all felt my blade.

Seen the planesword and planeshield, underwhelming at best, unless they are need to seal the rift somehow? They are mostly for show otherwise, can not see very many people using them.

think I am going to try back tomorrow, see if I can organize a small raiding party with some semblance of cooperation.

other than that I must say it was archers and meatsheilds doing the most damage.

I liked how they did the alcarity scroll event, spread the spawn out, and have it rotate, that was a good event. Wished they used a similar system.

On Chessy once we spread out a little lag wasnt as bad . THe big problem is after a while all the monsters were in the buildings were we couldnt killl them and thus few new ones spawned. Weather its in a hill like magencia or buildings this seems to happen every event tho by far this was the worst as far as unkillabe beasts. I think it is crazy that they havent figured how to keep this from happening after ten years , After 15 minutes there was almost nothing to kill.

I honestly don't know what to make of it. Admittedly I got in late and just popped into the time bubble and back with no idea what to do. But the shadowlord said to pick a side, and gave me no clue how to do so.

I presume we should cast armageddon inside the time bubble to pop it, but nobody seemed to be thinking past shiny stuff and blubbering stupid things.

So I finally gave up and left, let the world blow up if that's what happens, I wash my hands of it.

I'm game for joining in on a later raid, although it depends on if I can get the initial lag area of the machine itself to play nice.

Once the number of people drop and assuming I can get to a "quieter" corner, I should be ok.

Lots of unanswered questions though from the statements made about the event IMO.

So what happen to being rewarded for being there lastnight with our blackrock? anyone figure that out yet?

Although there were some serious issues with it, let me chime in as another 'thank you' for the event.

While there is still DEFINITE room for improvement on the way you guys are doing things, this obviously took a bit to mastermind. The work is appreciated.

I totally missed the five-minute event yesterday. Tonight I come home from work and there's just a black moongate sitting in a crater. So... uh... I take it something happened? I don't have a miner, I never had much blackrock and I didn't save any. Should I just log out?

EDIT: There's people going into the black gate. They must have blackrock. I wish someone had told me that getting rid of mine would mean being blackballed from events in the future. What a crock. Think I'll go log into WoW.

G

You can also get in the black gate without blackrock, just gotta play with the gate, it is a little tricky to get into! keep trying tho, becareful tho, dangerous on the other side

Why was it a nice event?
Was totally unplayable, totally laggy. I have high-speed connection so it's not me.
Is this what we have waited a whole year for? The Devs put effort of course, into this, but this is the best you can do?
The blackrock in my pack was to make me stronger? Well it wasn't strong enough for me to take more than three steps at a time . This was such a let down to me, to my comrades, to the community. You obviously underestimated us and underappreciate us. **rubs head in dispair**
Was "optimized for 2D". Why? I figured I would play in my native KR. KR is surely optimized too, I thought to my self. But, noooooo.... KR didn't even work, kept crashing, and I couldn't log in at all (and not only me). I had one minute to 9pm EST and I had to log in with 2D in fear that I would miss something GREAT. Yeah, right.
What has happened to this wonderful game. Is it on auto-pilot? Once in a while they throw us a bone?

The lag was very bad and hardly got to fight. And what happened with "and saw what those who came today get"? I got something alright! And didn't even get a kiss!

...

I ran the night in KR. Crashed a few times in Dark Moonglow, but really kind of expected it with everything going on.

After lagging around a LOT, I loaded up 2d on my laptop (which I keep around for vendor purposes for now) and had just as much lag and all of the other problems I have with the 2d client in general, so I swapped back to KR until a while after we were all bounced back to (light) Moonglow.

Maybe once the crowd dies down a bit and something can be done about the crowd at the entrance in Dark Moonglow it will be playable.

KR held up better than I expected it too, but UO itself really doesn't handle 200+ participant events all that well IMO.

That's why, if you're thinking, you don't hold events in the "EVERYONE IN THE WORLD, BE IN DESPISE AT 6PM" style. Because then every single person shows up and the game explodes. You design events such that being there on day one or hour one doesn't grant objectively greater access to content, and then you just sort of spring it on the players with the exact time unannouced.

This isn't me talking like an expert, this is what most of the old Event Moderators eventually learned to do. I remember sitting in the Magincia tavern with two friends on Great Lakes, when all of a sudden evil mage lords and executioners just sort of started appearing. We ran out into the street and started fighting them, then ran out of town to get reinforcements.

I submit that "Hey bank crowd, city X is under attack, everyone come help!" followed by "What, really? Let's go!" is more satisfying to customers than "Everyone in the game be at city X at 6pm!" followed by "OMFG LAG SUX!"

You won't get any argument from me on that.

Events like the Ophidian Invasion, Halloween stuff a couple of years ago, the rat infestation of the sewers, the 10th anniversary drops in legacy dungeons... stuff like that that is spread out and available for a longer timeframe seems to work out better than trying to pile the entire server's population at one spot (especially when they know and don't do anything about people who seem to HAVE to bring their lag causing dragons and position them to block everyone from seeing anything).

Beyond that, I REALLY wish we would get away from the whole cryptic-ness of this stuff. Too much (at least for me) was lost in simply not knowing what was going on.

If you have NPCs that are supposed to respond to keywords in their speech, take a cue from Ultima 6 and bold the key words.

Get rid of messages that are little more than mental disconnects and just give us the meat of what's going on, set up several key locations with quests and activities and let us have a reasonable amount of time to be involved in it.

Finally, if you're going to drop special items such as a sword and shield, you have to either do one, the other or both in regards to them... that being mods that make them useful and desirable, and/or make them have unique graphics as the item art and on the paperdoll. Ok, so a sword and shield dropped... what makes them any different or more desirable than the same items that I make from a runic hammer? Other than a name, I don't see one in this batch. This isn't the elder days of UO when it was more difficult to add graphics. It seems like they've opened up the "add graphics to the art.mul files" more than previously, so make use of it. Show us some artistic flair with special items at the very least.

The Apollo Moon Project took Billions of Dollars, and Millions of Man Hours...and they STILL had well over One Thousand Five Hundred errors. This team has not nearly those resources, and this seems to be fairly flawless.

I think that the team did Very well.

My wife and I are enjoying it immensely, as area the others, apparently, that are still fighting.

When you are running the Dev Team for a multi-million dollar MMORPG, and can then demonstrate just how YOU improved things, on YOUR side...your criticism, and nudges to do LOTS better may carry more credence.

Until then...they are just whining to me, and often, for no good reason, I might add...certainly with no substance, other than trying to act like you know how they SHOULD be doing it.

Which gets extremely tiresome...as I am sure my Pom Pom Waving does to you, and the other Negative Neds.

But oh well...I guess there has to be a balance, eh?

Thanks Draconi.

Very cool, so far!!

I like it now too. The lag has almost disappeared on LS. Might have been caused by our copies that were originally there. The swords and shields will probably be turn-in items since I have 17 shields and 12 swords. I also have 4 threads of life, and 1 thread of fate. Threads go in 2 different directions it appears (vertical seems to be rarer).

Yeah it's great... 1:15 am. Awesome. I am a bugeyed freak now. But I got a lot of dem shields boy!!!

My Cu Sidhe was a top damager!! I was worried about that with the rise of the dragons... but that was good.

HAving trouble with the wisps though. I want about 50 of those threads.

I'm still pissed that 2D got priority on this job. I don't even think the white flash happened for me... my buddy says... WHOA, did you see that? I says no, she says A white flash.

Try to make the game capable of tolerating huge amounts of people.... you could have spread the people around by making the focal point huge... like a vortex. We would have missed that camel kissing the pentagram or whatever happened, but if we were spread out over a huge vortex, maybe the mass crash/lag fest could have been disperesed in order to start the time machine or whatever just happened.
