[NEWS] The Search For Mysterious Crystals

Shortly after arriving at the EM Hall on Thursday, June 4, we were gated to a meeting hall in Trinsic

where we were met by Lady Lucretia Genovese.

Lady Genovese quickly explained why we had been summoned:

Last time we went out to fight some creatures that were mutated by a crystal. Unfortunately it seems a common occurrence.

There are some mysterious crystals being placed around Britannia that seem to cause plants and animals to go wild. We also tried to track down a man who studies crystals, but failed to find him. His name is Bertram Shull, and he's apparently missing. We did rescue his assistant, Myron.

After some coaxing, the reticent Myron appeared before the crowd.

Myron may have some new information for us, since his traumatic experience is passed.

Myron: I did remember one thing. When I was lookin' fer the boss, there was a creepy guy in the cave ....

After a lengthy pause, Lady Lucretia Genovese inquired, Are you okay, Myron?

Myron: Just, ah, nervous. Anyway, I was thinkin' ... That man was also after my boss. You all seem like good folk, but I don't wan'na say where I was ta meet him.

Lucretia Genovese: You can't tell us anything?

Myron then whispered something to Lady Genovese.
Lucretia Genovese: (to Myron) Uhm ... That is obvious, I think.

(To the entire gathering) Alright, we might have to search for Bertram's dig site. Not tonight, but whenever you have time. I'll put up a board at the reward hall and the first to find his site and post it there will have a reward added.

Myron: You should na have said.

Lucretia Genovese: You didn't tell me anything useful. Anyway, we've some other business for tonight.

I received a note about another monster problem which is likely related to the crystals. There were reports of slimes acting oddly ... Not very exciting, I know ... Anyway, we should go check it out.

If anyone finds the crystal causing it, please let me know; I will be in the group. I was given a rune to the location.

As we went through the gate opened by Lady Genovese, and this was the scene awaiting the group:

As we searched for the mysterious crystal, It soon became apparent the animals and monsters in the area were under an adverse effect caused by the crystal being somewhere close.

The group valiantly searched, all the while fending off the seemingly never ending hordes.

At long last, and after many casualties, a cry went out that the crystal had been spotted.

Lady Genovese swiftly scaled up the mountain and destroyed the nefarious crystal.

Lady Lucretia Genovese:
That seems to have done it. We should respect creatures in their natural homes, but this wasn't a natural occurrence. Someone is placing these crystals.

Those gathered began speculating on who might be responsible for placing the mysterious, energy radiating crystals. Myron's name came up several times, until Lady Genovese reminded us, 'I doubt Myron has the intellect to construct a plot like this.'

At the same moment, Lady jamie arrived with the exciting news that Bertram's dig site had been located! Lady Genovese asked we be taken there to investigate. Lady jamie promptly opened a gate to transport us to the abandoned dig site:

The reclusive Bertram had chosen a dig site that ensured he would not often encounter curious passersby.

Lady Genovese inspected the site Lady jamie had discovered, and confirmed this was indeed Bertram's abandoned dig site.

Lady jamie then led the group out to safety where we were gated back to the Trinsic meeting hall.

Lady Genovese commended the group, and asked that everyone be on the lookout for more of the mysterious crystals and for Bertram. If you happen to sight either, please let Lady Genovese know!

It still bugs me that there seem to no longer be any event items given out (not an "everyone gets one" item, but a rare item few people get) . I could be wrong I have been away the past few months.

yes, the hype of EM events has drastically gone downhill ever since the pointless rewards hall idea came out. for the most part, these EM eventw now are jsut a waste of time because the fun is ruined by how long they are dragged out and then nothing cool is even givin to anyone.

But i guess this works well with the games theme of "nothing good can stay"

I , for one , commend the job the EM's did with this little side trip to the exciting unknown. I had a great time and truly enjoyed myself. I did not need nor did i desire a trophy (reward) (greedmongering uber-rare money making collectible item).... I simply desired a slight distraction from the regular life that can occasionally become a tad mundain. And i can say "Job Well Done!" Thanks Lady Lucretia and please keep feeding us this developing story.:next: Also a thanks to Sara for reporting the event. Took ye long enough!!!!.....No really, thanks for filling in over here on Cats.:D

I refuse to join these events...

- My armor loses durability,
- I waste valuable reags,
- I waste My time!
- I get no Leet Loot!!!
- My instruments lose their charges!!!

All is a bloody waste of time!

PS: I'm the FURY Librarian... Elaint, the Bard... manytimes near Sara and making sure everyone was safe and having as much fun as I had! Did my best to PEACE and X Heal but a few died under my casting range... SORRY.
EM, REPORTERS and Fellow PLAYERS... KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

How dare the EMs focus on making things fun instead of giving a select few "Leet Loot"?!?

Oh right... fun > stuff.

I have you and many others to thank for all the heals and cures and a few rezzes, too ... My very low skill, no armor character was well-protected by the players participating at the event. I was amazed at how seldom I died ... I had already decided I'd just go, and when dead use the Assist view self as chicken option to get non-monochrome screenshots.

Thank you, everyone, I had a great time!

I pity you, because you truely don't know how to have fun. You don't play UO for the fun of playing and entertainment, you play it only for items. You might as well collect stamps, it wouldn't matter.

Many players enjoy the events because they were informative trips to locations they didn't know before. Because the events were challenging and required good teamwork. Because they met other players and had fun together. They don't need items or rewards to be happy.

You people with all your whining and complaining destroyed a part of our fun. Because of you, rewards will not be handed out anymore. Rewards that have absolutely no value, except sentimental one for the adventurer who participated, and who every now and then likes to look at a little souvenir that reminds him of an event he had enjoyed.

Hawkeye FTW!
Surprised that is hasn't sunk in to people yet that that's why they weren't being given out anymore and instead we get a hall to share whenever we want to point out accomplishments and tell whatever happened.

That's all well and good, I agree, I enjoy events for your reasons too, but I am also a pack rat. I love collecting rare items, back in the day I remember the feeling I'd get if they were giving out one of a kind items. In my opinion the people who ruined the fun were those who complained about the one of a kind items, those people were neither us nor you. It was the people who wanted to make money. You guys just have fun and don't care that much for items. I like getting items but do not care if it doesn't happen. The problem is EA listens to the loudest who isn't always right.
