The New Ethereal Vortex on Baja Stratics
By WarderDragon

I am pleased to announce the latest version of Baja's Ethereal Vortex Page.

Baja's Ethereal Vortex - Councils and Clans of the Five Worlds

To those unfamiliar with our shards Ethereal Vortex; the page is a listing used to document and feature our communities historic and roleplayed Kingdoms, Villages, Estates, Land Claims, Establishments, and Governments. While some shards have chosen to discontinue use of their Ethereal Vortex, we here at Baja Stratics News wished to update ours to reflect the changing needs of our small corner of the Ultima Online Community.

To those who are familiar with the Vortex, you might notice several significant departures from the old version.

* We've discontinued the 'Councils of Virtue' and 'Clans of Sin' Theme. It became clear as I was updating the system that not all guilds can be cleverly pigeonholed into divisions of 'Good' and 'Evil.' And not all Lawful and Good individuals associate themselves with Lord British's Virtues. Therefore I changed the system to reflect their geographic region of that claim (Trammel, Felucca, Tel Mur, etc.) rather than their Alignment (Good, Evil, Lawful, Chaotic, etc.).

* I've changed 'Base Area' to 'Geographic Region.' It could easily be confusing when the 'Base Area' of Avalon was identified as 'Avalon.' So we changed it instead to reflect the Ultima Prime Name of each region (i.e. Spiritwood being the forest between Skara Brae and Trinsic, the Bay of Lost Hope being the body of water separating Minoc from Wrong, etc.) I've also chosen to list some of the player created names of some regions (i.e. Cochese Pass is the name given to a landmass near the Village of Avalon).

* We've identified with brackets those regions or landmasses which belong to a greater Kingdom (i.e. the Count of Berg is a loyal servant of the Kingdom of Britannia, while the Gulgeth Clan of the Hordelands profess their alligience to the Duchess of Dawn). The current major, identifiable multi-region empires are the Britannian Kingdom, the Dawnite Kingdom, and the Vassals of the Dark Tower.

* We've added those regions and claims which have a major significance to the event moderator storyline. New Britain (Trammel) has been divided into three regions; the Southern being under the administration of the Town Guards, while the Eastern is under the administration of Roberto the Town Ruffian.

* We wanted to reflect that each major town can and often does possess several major guilds as opposed to just one. Avalon hosts not only the Citizens of Avalon but the Gypsys of Sosaria as well. Golden is occupied by the Golden Knights, the Rangers of the Realm, and the Protectors of All Wildlife. Therefore we replaced the contact person with a listing of each major guild.

* We've rid the Vortex of the Status Number. I've always felt that the number could be used to suggest some guilds or communities are more important than others.

Over the next couple evenings we will continue to update the Vortex with webpage links and contact information.

If you have any questions or would like your town or village added to the Ethereal Vortex, please contact me at [email protected] or leave me a private message here on UOStratics.

For any wondering, the pass was named after GM Cochese helped clear a pathway from north to south through the pass, most likely sometime around 2000. A small plaster home blocked the only remaining route (when that was actually possible), and he came in to assist.

I've updated the page with:

- The Isle of Peace (inhabited by Elf Clan Zanthes).
- The Republic of Vesper (inhabited by the Swords of Sacrifice).
- Heavens Forge (inhabited by the Ring of Steel and the Almost Famous Knights).

I plan to begin the next update with links to guild webpages.
