Funeral Of Tavalia Zodok
12/8/10
Castle Britannia

Mourners gathered at Castle Britannia last Wednesdays eve to pay tribute to fallen Royal Ambassador Tavalia Zodok. Her Majesty herself presided over the nights ceremonies welcoming those in attendance to the Throne room.

The ceremony began will solemn remarks remembering the public service of Zodok. The Queen visibly upset, labored to get her words out at times.....

Those in attendance were all the more sorrowful as the queen wept along the historic walls. Some who blamed the Queen actions for the death of the Ambassador let their voices be heard throughout the evening....

The procession was soon led two by two down the streets of West Britain as the freshly dug grave of Zodok resided int he Cemetery north of the city. Citizens encircled the casket of the fallen as the Queen continued her tribute.

It was not long after the Queen's emotion could bear no more. Her Majesty alas turned to those heckling amongst the crowd to address the coarse accusations being thrown about! She explained the last few months tragedies, struggle from the side of good and defended her actions to steer the realm away from present evils.

Talk soon spoke of what to do to see that those resposible saw justice for this heinous act of murder to a reveared public official. Spectators ponders various methods to attempt to reach the spirit of Zodok. Soon after necromancers amongst the crowd stepped forward to speak to the spririt world en mass. Draining the mediums for all thier worth the spirit was reached although its was weak the tortured psirt of Zodok seemingly spoke from the netherworld to all who bore witness.
The spirits garbled attempts to express it's message were being watched by all as the words artifacts...murder... were mentioned as legible. Soon the spirit seemingly hunted from within looked to be struck and fallen to its knees. Rising from its ashes was something that resembled Zodok but as we would soon find out was far far more than we bargained for tempting the rouse of the undead.......

The area soon swelled with the rithing tide of the undead. Patrons scattered in all directions as the screams of the falling was all that could be heard. Spectral Deamons, Undead Gargoyles and Wyrms Tore through the crowd even as the Queen herself fought alongside the now surrounded group of adventurers.

The group fought valiently as many death robes were issued in defence of the Queen and those in attendance. The beasts eventually thwarted the wounded and fallen became first priority.

The Queen went on to explain the Bane were more than likely repsonsible for the nights attacks as they extend thier evil reach.....All the while still fending off verbal banter from the crowd.

As the action rescinded the Queen led survivors back to the throne room and thanked us for honoring the memory of the Royal Ambassador. May She rest in peice as the realm now focuses on bringing those responsible to justice.

This was a great event. Sadly, it was griefed on two levels, the first being people who had to kill the NPC honor guard on an rp-level, secondly the yelling and screaming in all caps during the memorial speech and farewell by the queen.

Tavalia Zodok was one of the longest-running RPC's, with a dramatic and tragic ending, both with her death and funeral. It's yet another slap in the face, not only to those present, but those who participate in the shardwide community with events such as these as well as the EM staff who create and conduct these things.

98% of the people who were present were participating in the event, even those who were decrying her and the government, it was at least within the event framework. It's those 2% who just had to try to ruin the event for their own amusement at the expense of others that irritated me. Such people are misanthropes, and such to the extent they feel compelled to express it at any, even minor, opportunity. It's not cute, funny or endearing. It's more a exhibition of how severe their condition is, that they'd go to such lengths. I hope those who are in a position to intervene, on various levels and capacities, do so and the sooner the better.

It is too bad there will always be those that cause trouble or problems. The caps lock guy is a great example.

I was pleased with how the people from Aryslan presented themselves, as we did everything in our power to ensure a role playing environment that goes along with the story and identity we have at this time.

Unfortunately there's nothing the EMs can do to control the situation. In the past, EMs, Seers and others had the power to squelch and jail any unruly players that disrupted events. These powers should be returned.

You are completely right Tancred. Sadly the griefing and all the "look at me, I'm important" side chatter makes the EM events no longer worth attending.

If people get out of line at HoC meetings, they can get ejected and even banned.

If people get out line at player-run events, they can, and usually very quickly, get banned from the structure. In Fel, they can get pk'd.

If people are being a jackwagon in a movie theater, restaurant, sports venue, bar, library, mall, etc. they are usually very quickly and similarly removed.

So it doesnt seem to make sense that at what is arguably the highlight of the EM program, namely events, that there is little oversight or recourse for these miscreants.

Sure, issue a warning to be fair, but then the politely asking stuff is done and it's byebye time. They should either be jailed, logged out and banned from relogging for 15 minutes, or even excluded from a 50x50 tile area around the event site for the remainder of the event. Take your pick, but something needs to change in this area of intentional player disruption.

One thing I do is just move players on to ignore in game. Especially when I was news reporting this helped clear out the spam.

Good tip there Gareth, too bad you can't squelch people irl the same way, lol

However, it doesnt stop them from other annoying griefing antics such as killing the NPC honor guard for the funeral(in this example), etc.

Also, I thought I read, long ago, that filtering(ignoring) slows down the client?
