The setting sun cast a faint red glow across those gathered, the fire in the center flickering brightly in the breeze. And as the sun finally vanished, the hooded man opened his mouth to speak…

Last night at the Reward Hall, the Storytelling contest had quite the turnout. The topic for the night was “Catskills History”. People began gathering more than a half hour before the event even began. Which, in itself, shows the dedication and pride the people of Catskills have.

People from many guilds shared stories. Some humorous and others of a much more serious nature.

Kodoz of PGoH (Purple Guardians of HONOR) started the night off with en epic tale describing the Siege of Trinsic, in which Jour’nar the fallen paladin overtook the city, and then was destroyed by a Guardian. Many commented on how well done the story was, and how it would be tough to top it.

Following Kodoz’ story, Kasaven announced some rather…interesting news. Traps had been installed in the Fairgrounds near Britain. And as he tended to his injured foot, he reminded us to be wary as the traps are very dangerous.

Beleg Megil of H-S (Heart of Silverwood) stepped up next, and brought everyone in attendance back to the Abbey of Yew in his tale. The tale featured trickery, greed, undead, criminals, orcs and… a mysterious man known as the Green Arrow who managed to save the day through tricking the evil ones. A captivating tale, one which had many remembering of such days when those of a shady nature would demand tribute.

Clive Dauthi of Sol (Soldats) approached the fire in the center with a tale of his own. One which brought laughter and grins to nearly all in attendance. The tale featured Clive himself, as well as Travesty. A figure many will know from expeditions in Tokuno. What started as a simple task from Clive, quickly turned into something more. A tale, that none will forget soon. Guaranteed

Next came the words of Rotep, another Guardian of PGoH. His tale, was of his own experience in our world. And how many things, such as vampires, fae and werewolves, were unknown to him before. Many could sympathize with him, having been through such things before as well.

Next up, was Va’lis Razele of |R| (House of Redemption). His tale, was a poem of a battle between the forces of good, and the evil FoA and their constant search for blackrock to perfect the spell of Armageddon. It brought those who had fought in such battles, back to the past for a brief span.

Lady Calina of DR (Dark Revelations) gave a tale of her own view of the recent Invasions of our land, and the suddeness in which they came. A tale, that was filled with sadness and brought to the front of the mind, the memories and losses of such times. A noble story indeed.

Bringing a light against the darker stories, was the story from James of Rose (Freehold of Roses). His tale, told of how he wished to see if his fighting skills were still up to par, and how he ventured into the dungeon Destard in search of a dragon to slay. Telling of how he fought with all his weapons (including teeth) brought a grin to the people gathered.

As the winner was decided, Rotep of PGoH once more stepped forth and sang a song commonly known as “Fae in my Cup”. A hilarious song featuring an adventuring party who stop and find refuge in Trinsic, only to discover that maybe, Trinsic does not want them afterall. Personally, this reporter believes that the song should be the Catskills Official Anthem.

And finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived. The results!

In third place, for her tale on the invasions, came Lady Calina of DR.

In second place, for his poem on the FoA Battles, came Va’lis Razele of |R|.

And finally, in first place came Beleg Megil of H-S for his tale on the Green Arrow.

Everyone who attended was given another treat as well. None other than Mesanna of the UO Team appear to hear a few stories. It was quite a surprise, but a welcome one to see another Robed one appear in our midst.

The stories flowed freely, and everyone enjoyed themselves. Let us remember the past so that we may learn from it, and not make the same mistakes twice. The stories that were told, many can be related to recent events. Let us band together as one, and repel the evils that threaten us!

Until next time Catskills!

-Va’lis Razele, Catskills News Reporter.

Congratulations to the winners! I thought everyone did a superb job of storytelling.

Now, if I could just get .. 'and we were banned from Trinsic' out of my head! ;)
