On a warm clear autumn evening, eleven archers came together to compete for the honor of the September BSR cup. Leaves turning colors tumbled to the ground as returning champions and aspiring contenders lined up to face down the buttes.
In the first round, Happy Fool claimed the first robinhood of the evening, cleanly cleaving his arrow down the middle to the "oohs" of the crowd. Not far behind was Llama, who seemed to make the feat seem easy so close on the heels of the first.
At the end of the first round, with 70 points required to pass through, Happy Fool, Allie Koholik, Llama, Aerowyn Faeryn, Frigin Azim, Chango, Harliquinn, Rawhead Rex, and Bumble Bee would go on to Round Two.
The bar raised in the next round to 100 points required to pass. Again, Happy Fool set the round off with an impressive showing of 150 points. Meanwhile, a flurry of pie throwing fouled shooter Allie Koholik, whose pie in the eyes cost Allie the round. Judges looked around for the culprit and a blushing Sally admitted she had meant the custard creation as a good luck gesture. Llama avoided a near loss with a magnificent comeback, nailing two bullseyes to offset a misfired first shot and reclaim a passing score by a hair.
At the end of this round, Happy Fool, Llama, Aerowyn Faeryn, Frigin Azim, Chango, Harliquinn, and Rawhead Rex would claim 100 points and proceed on.
The third round proved fatal for earlier victors Happy Fool and Llama, however. In the highest score since the first round, Aerowyn Faeryn followed two bullseyes with a robinhood and breathed a sigh of relief. Only three archers obtained the 150 points required to pass the round: Aerowyn Faeryn, Frigin Azim, and Rawhead Rex.
In the fourth round, with 200 points required, the buttes claimed victim to all three archers as the autumn winds changed directions and put the archers off balance. A shoot-off was declared to determine the victor and archers repositioned their footings and tested the new breezes.
A humble Aerowyn Faeryn stepped up to let loose five arrows, and with a keen focus, narrowed eyes and put five bullseyes in a row in the butte for 250.
Frigin Azim followed, but lost aim on the second and third shots, picking up 170 points. The pressure was on the final archer, Rawhead Rex, who needed a perfect score to win.

The crowd looked at the butte in awe at three perfect bullseyes and two robinhoods in a thrilling victory by Rawhead Rex.
Congratulations, Rex, for claiming the prize (a lovely antique, lacquered armchair) and the title of September's BSR Champion, gaining a seat in the year-end winner's circle competition.
Special thanks to Toni Fierce, hostess extraordinaire. See you next month, Archers!
