A new, rather special sub forum, attached to our existing UHall

Be sure to read the sticky FAQ thread carefully, this forum has a special purpose and therefore works a little differently to most of our other forums.

We hope that you will find the addition useful, feedback posted on UHall will be welcomed.

Posted my first 2 questions :D

Hopes they won't get rejected, couldn't find a definitive answer previously via FoF.

Edit: Ohhh, will I get a pm if my questions are moved to the player's forum instead?

A thank you to both the team and to Stratics.

Hopefully we ("we" meaning me and my fellow players) won't crowd it with too much trivial, whining excrement.

And I also hope they won't duck too many in the way of respectful but tough questions.

Can I please remind everyone that it's not a discussion board. You post your question there for the Devs to answer, you discuss it out here, on the main board. I'd lock all the threads as we approved them, but then the devs wouldn't be able to reply either. So all I can do is ask, please don't reply to the question threads. If you have a comment to make on one, do it here.

The Stratics test today of a new sub-forum revealed some technical problems - and some ways that we hope will make it work better. For now, the new forum has been removed, but we hope to have a new, improved version going soon.

Arg for technical troubles, but great idea nonetheless. Hope the forum returns soon!

It's back.
There was a slight misunderstanding on how it will work.

No - you do not need to re-post previous questions.

As the questions come in, they are forwarded (moved) to a private forum for Developers only so that the team can go directly to the question without having to dig through tons of commentary in the following posts. They'll answer those that they have the time/knowledge/desire to answer, and then the mods will move the question and answer back to the new forum for all to see - very much like the UO-House of Commons chats are handled. Please note that not all questions will be answered.

All questions will be either:

Removed - If it violates our RoC. :yell:
Moved to Player Corner - If it is something an experienced player can answer. :scholar:
Moved to the Dev only forum to await an answer.
Moved to Spiels and Rants - It could happen... :p

Please remember to keep comments about the questions and answers in U-hall.

It sounds like we're not supposed to see the posts in the forum at all, unless and until they are answered. Yet earlier when I posted I saw my post there.

I'm rather confused....But oh well. I doubt my questions would be answered even if they do see the post.

On some versions of vBulletin I've seen, when you submit to a moderated forum, the poster will see the post (which gives them the chance to alter their question, or delete it), even though no one else other than staff could. It might be the case here.

No this is not the case. All the questions have been moved and a "shadow" post was not left behind. So..... The same or very similar questions will be posed over and over again because we can't see what has been asked.

Please change the way you are handling the posts so that the original questions may be seen.

Hiya all,

Think of this as similar to the way it was handled when submitted to the Herald for the FoF. In trying to keep as much of the question/answer relationship going we are more than willing to mirror it as needed.

Realizing not everone may share the same opinion on how it's presented, let's give both teams the opportunity to present it as it works for them and as a week or two goes by, adjust accordingly if necessary.

Hugs,
Airmid

Galen, yes your first point is right, so is your second. As I posted, there was a slight misunderstanding on my part on what was required.

It will work pretty much like five on friday, except the team will answer throughout the week, and we will be diverting any questions that a player can answer. (How many times have you read FoF and thought 'but I could have answered that one'?)

In effect this will result in a lot more than 5 answers per week.

Thank you.

If any members of the team are reading this, know that I greatly appreciate this, yet also have the concerns outlined in this post.

Petra, the way you initially started this was great! You had almost 100% positive comments on it. Then along comes EA and says "Oh no! We cannot have the customers seeing which questions we refuse to answer. Change it or we won't participate."

So now, you have a dupe of FoF with the "hope" that more than 5 will be answered.

I encourage everyone to post your questions a second time in Uhall letting the rest of us know what you asked. I'll start a thread and see how long it lasts.

hmm, well, that's not a very generous way to look at it. We should not assume that any question not answered will because they refuse to, quite often the reason will be they can't answer it, and of those quite a lot will fall under a heading of, they can't even tell you why they can't answer it.

Anyone who has ever worked in a job where they deal with 'customers' will tell you, the company always has rules about what the customer can, and can't, be told.

That's what players seem to nearly always fail to understand about MMO Devs and GMs. They ARE NOT omnipotent "gods" that can do whatever they want, yet refuse to do what YOU want. They are merely employees of a company, who have rules put in place by their bosses, which must be followed should they wish to continue to be employees... /sigh.

Call it whatever you wish, but I guess its the American in me that screams no to censorship. And failing to let the questions see the light of day is censorship in my book. Whether they answer them or not is entirely their choice. How we interpret their answers or lack thereof is ours.

While what you say is true there are going to be a great deal of the questions not answered for the sole fact that we would not like the answer and they are not going to rock the boat with an answer like that.

I was never a fan of the FoF. I said it was a bad idea from the beginning in fact. This forum is nothing more than a watered down HoC. I advise everyone to see it in that light and take it for what it is. A cherry picking service for topics that Cal can use to make the game look good and highlight things they think we will like.

Not on my watch. Ha! *winks*

I'll re-state that we should see how things go as is for now. I personally think it could have waited until after the holiday and start fresh next week but this also gives us time to find out what works best.

Keep in mind Petra is taking on more than she expected to in a great many areas but is as willing as always to get out the bigger boots and wade around in them. We are first and foremost a fan-site willing to accommodate Dev requests to bring more interaction with the community. This is in addition to, not taking away from, normal conversation on uhall itself.

I'm all for best intentions but I'm not naive enough to think this forum isn't going to replace dev posts in the regular areas to a large degree. I'd like to put this in the "not taking away from" catagory but I doubt that is where it's going to land. We shall see where it goes however.
