Early yesterday morning I recieved a report about the Royal Surveyor, Killian, making his way around the realm. Aparently he was scouting prospective locations for new towns! It was Killian's hard work that made The Mystic City a recognized township just recently, and now he has been given a few new areas to scout out, in order to determine if they too are worthy of becomming "official".

With the official news now out of the way, I would like to invite the governing bodies of any current or future towns to tell us a little about their settlements. Maybe in doing so you can recruit a few more like minded people to share your towns and cities with.

And for those of you who may want to start your own settlement, here is what I was quoted.

To ensure to have a smooth recognition of your town please obey the rules below:

1.Size (number of houses), facet and coordinates:
1-4 Settlement
5-10 Village/Hamlet
11-20 Town
21-30 City
31+ Kingdom/Empire/City-State
Town recognitions are available for all facets.
2.Allegiance:
Tell us where your loyalty lies: with the crown, against the crown or neutral. Your decision may have an influence on future events in the area of your town
3.Ambassadors:
Persons who represents your town. Ideally this should be two, or even three individuals who can be contacted if necessary (see also 7, “Communication”)
4.Events:
A town must offer regular/periodic and public events. This could be hunts, game events, meetings, tavern nights, auctions, tournaments or similar
5.Community:
Show us which houses are connected together. It doesn’t matter if it’s the same town name on the house sign, a special colour or decoration
6.History:
Your town should provide some history.
Interested visitors should always be able to
inform themselves about your establishment
7.Communication:
Your town should provide communication. Visitors should always be able to contact you or your establishment (barkeeper, message boards, mailboxes, books; but also through websites/forums)
8.Banners:
Your town has to submit a banner. It should be max. 6×6 tiles big and should not block house placement around it.
Please submit the following facts:

1.suggested coordinates for the banner
2.the model numbers and name for the items used in your banner:
3.use only Inside UO for this. Choose category “Artwork”, then use the tab “Static Tiles”. You can also use single frames from the category “Animations”. There is an example of the town of Gyldenfeld, how to split up your submission into the necessary details
4.a picture (format: JPG, PNG or GIF) of your banner

Note: The crown will have the final say if a banner is accepted or not. Banner inputs which were not accepted can be re-worked

The submission of your town and banner have to be complete, otherwise the recognition would not be possible. The list (1-8) must be answered completely.

In the name of the Crown and of whole Sosaria I will invite the interested towns and their ambassadors to have a discussion in the very near future.

Applications can be emailed to [email protected] for consideration as well as the required tour of the grounds by Killian the Royal Surveyor.

"The Settlement of Ta'b'gnom the Mongbat King"

Currently we have enough homes for Village/Hamlet status, but I personally like the title Settlement better, especially living in Felucca. The settlement is located on the shore line east of dungeon Wrong and currently boasts; a Newspaper, a Town Square, a Town Hall, an Arena, and Docks.

The citizenry of this settlement support the crown, though we don't actively campaign for her causes, or follow strictly to her laws. But if anyone asks we support her decisions 100%!

If on your travels you would like to visit our settlement, it should be fairly obvious which houses are a part of our group, because we all contracted the same builder. Homes are elegant in design yet utilize local materials giving them a very earthy feel, stone and wood.

Lastly for those that would like a brief history on how the town got started and got its name. My brothers and I were on a treasure hunt a few years ago, attempting to decode a particularly difficult map, when all of a sudden our pack animals bolt! We chased after them, because they had all the gear we would need to complete our adventure, and found them hypnotized by a green crystal poking out from the ground.

Well treasure is treasure right? We tried to pluck the crystal from the ground but discovered that it was larger than it appeared. So we set to work excavating it, after a days work, the crystal was finally unearthed, and it was massive. An emerald the likes of which no one has every seen, or ever will again (but I am getting ahead of myself).

That night we built camp and celebrated our newly found fortune, with more than a crate of Royal Guard Brand Ale... and were quickly unconscious.

When we awoke, much to our horror, our spectacular emerald was a shattered mess, only a few shards left on the ground where it had once stood. In its place a moongate unlike any I had ever seen before stood, pulsing with energy. And on the nearby grass watching us, stood a giant red mongbat. My brother and I though upset at our monetary loss, laughed at the giant beast, because the mongbat is the "special" cousin of the monster family.

The creature's eyes glowed with displeasure, which he made clear thru some sort of magic, neither myself nor my brothers could move a muscle. Instead we heard in our minds, "I am Ta'b'gnom the mongbat king" you are now bound to this land and to me. Serve me well and I will treat you accordingly."

We have not seen the creature since, but we take no chances with magic, and decided to build our homes here, and the area has flourished.
