In the Shadow of Virtue: Epilogue

It is over.

Together the Legions of Britannia and their Ilshenarian Counterparts drove the Lord of Pride through the portal from whence he came. To a place Sorcerers call the Void ...to a place peasants and the old religions call Hell.

But Darkness is not so easily banished. Victory not so easily claimed. For even now, wretched cannibals and vile demoniacs roam unmolested through Britannian Streets. Nobles and Warmongers clamour to establish power in the vaccum of our crumbling Kingdom. And let us not forget the hundreds of Bane Cultists who had no trouble communing with their Demonic Master before his banishment and shall have no bar to doing so now.

But for now, Sons and Daughters of Virtue, revel in this brief respite. Drink and Honor the Victorious Dead. For the shadow shall rise again. New demons who crave human blood and feast upon their sorrows.

Ours is a nation birthed in Violence. And in the grim darkness of our future there can be only war.

FOR THE EMPER-... no wait nevermind

For a nation that is allegedly so progressive and civilised, Britannia is certainly keen on the idea of eternal war. Not even cookie-mongering schoolchildren are safe. It is a shameful state of affairs.

I think that it is about time that you all faced up to the unpleasant truth: the country is too large and too disparate to be governed as one. United city-states are the only way to manage your vast and incompetent landmass.

At the very least, if the country were to be split up into sections, the next demonic invader could be quarantined and the area incinerated from afar. No more of this "earthly peril" nonsense; if you are incapable of functioning as a whole nation, it is time to consider operating as bite-sized chunks of arrogance and misguided patriotism.

Because it is late and you are all tired, I will refrain from mentioning Umbra's spotless record of military victory; its peaceful democracy and tiered egalitarianism; its long, illustrious history as a free state unthreatened by invaders from the void; or its rich culture, all but unmarked by the travails of war.

Even if Britain became a city state, however, I would still not trust the assigned Town Guards to protect an empty pantry, let alone an entire town.
