It was shortly after 8PM PST on Saturday, December 26, when town official Eliar appeared before the gathered crowd at West Britain Bank. After a short introduction, which included a mention of collecting income and sales taxes at the end of the evening, he began explaining to those in attendance the reason why he called everyone together. It seems that, during routine inspections of the Poor Gate and Main Gates within the city of Britain, it was found that the gates were deteriorating and left in a weakened state. A state that could threaten Britain’s defenses in the event of a city wide attack. Volunteers were sought to help collect iron ore resources to repair the gates as quickly as possible. The ore would be used for two purposes: One: To smelt brand new, improved, and more durable, city gates; and … Two: So crafters could create the new gearing mechanisms, springs, and hinges, that are essential to the portcullis gate’s operations in times of crisis.

After a few questions from the citizen volunteers, including one from Hilda asking about financial compensation from the city when one of the defective gates supposedly came crashing down on her unsuspecting dog, Eliar shuffled off quickly and requested the town guards show the citizens the current pitiful state of the Poor Gate. The guards led the volunteers North from West Britain Bank and showed them how the gates had eroded. Pieces of metal gears were lying on the ground busted from their trigger mechanism, and hinges and springs that had visibly come loose.

From there, with the help of volunteer Bastain who opened up a moongate to the desired mountain pass, everyone shuffled through the gate and began mining as much iron ore as they could. The town guards provided protection from any wandering denizens that ventured near the area, keeping a sharp eye on the miners. Guard recruit Kikyo stood perched atop a battlement, ready to swing into action while Guard Leithia kept watch along the Northern end of the pass. Things were progressing well and much iron ore had already been gathered when something unexpected, went terribly wrong.

From out of nowhere, a woman’s voice was heard screaming as she bounded up the mountain pass, crying out as if stricken with grief. Her name was Ruby Dees and she explained to anyone willing to listen that her young daughter, Allie Dees, had gone missing. Worse yet, Allie Dees was only five years old! Ruby Dees was hysterical and terrified! After much commotion and confusion, the volunteers offered to lend their aid to the frantic mother and help search for her daughter. The woman cried out in relief, and urged haste from everyone. A search party formed and everyone headed North and then West through the mountain passes. As we approached a small pond located just outside the dungeon Despise, Ruby Dees prayed that her daughter Allie had not mistakenly entered the dungeon. She trembled in fear at the notion, visibly shaken and distraught. To the horror of everyone, Sirius found a young girl’s hat near the dungeon entrance, to which Ruby Dees confessed belonged to her missing daughter Allie.

The search intensified when the search party entered dungeon Despise in search for Allie Dees. Everyone was heard shouting the missing girl’s name over and over again, “Allie! Allie! Where are you?” was the resounding call. Sally, Aerythe, Dolos, Weezie, Jazzmine Lee, and many others, found several short rescue notes that were undoubtedly dropped by Allie Dees earlier. The mother, Ruby Dees, nearly fainted and had to be steadied on her feet when one note found read, “Something swiped at my arm and now it's all bloody and hurting. Gonna hide for awhile ... Getting dizzy!” The poor girl seemed to be making her way deeper into the depths of Despise, dazed and confused. With mother Ruby Dees, concerned volunteers, and town guards giving chase, it was finally within the lair of the Ogre Lords that little Allie Dees was found first by the bravery of a lone, unsung hero, named James.

It seems that James had bounded ahead of the larger search party, wasting little or no time in his search. James valiantly protected Allie Dees until the rest of the search party, along with her mother, Ruby Dees, arrived. Ruby threw her arms around her daughter, embracing her tightly, while Allie cried and sobbed into her mother’s shoulders, promising never to run away chasing after butterflies ever again. The group of volunteers escorted the pair safely away back to the mountain pass where Ruby Dees thanked everyone for their heroic efforts at reuniting her with her daughter. Allie’s missing shoes were even returned to the wee lass by Learned Hand when he stumbled across them in Despise.

When things settled down, it was deemed by Corporal Brackus and the town guards that enough iron ore had been mined and a command was give to return back to Britain. A gate was opened and everyone poured through … eager to begin totaling up the iron ore collected and hoping it was enough for the necessary repair of the gates. Without delay, several tinkers began crafting fine metal gears, springs, and hinges as requested by a town official, Eliar, and handed them over to the guards along with the remaining iron ore to be used for the eventual replacement of the city gates themselves. The goal of collecting resources for repairing the city gates was achieved with the help of many outstanding volunteers, and the life of an innocent child was even saved in the process!

Special thanks to everyone that attended and took part in this wild adventure!
