Battles are oft won swinging arms,

Wars are oft won wagging tongues.

- The Great Game

Starting a storm in a tea cup, with those most noble of intentions I rode out to the city of Britain. There is an old saying amongst my people, "A sheep amongst a pack of wolves would be soon killed by the wolves. Yet, a sheep amongst a pack of bored nobles would have the nobles kill each other trying to crown it the king." So, I set out to be the sheep to play my part in the political intrigue that is oft played out in this city.

My plan was straight-forward; go to Britain, declare my intentions to get the House of Nystad reinstated, and lend my ears to every noble who might seek a potential alliance with me, yet never promising or discounting anything. As they take my silence to be a sign of power, a power that can be harnessed by their enemies, I will rise higher in the social and political ladder. High enough, I hope, to get what I want but not too high to have my corpse be discovered floating in the sewers. Indeed, it is a dangerous game but that is oft the case when the stakes are high.

It was a little over ten seasons ago when a fire destroyed not only my familial estate but also claimed the lives of my entire kin but for my twin brother Kullervo. The political turmoil of the time allowed the neighboring nobles to exploit the situation to their advantage, the end result of which dissolved the House of Nystad. We became not only orphans but also lost our identities on that day.

I can recount about the hardships and humiliations we faced growing up in a world to which we were of no use. However, wallowing in misery has never been my forte. If anything, those years have only firmed up my resolve to reclaim our title. To those intentions, I fly like an arrow. I am well aware of the dangers I face and the sacrifices I must make. I have already sacrificed the close rapport with my brother who thinks of it as a fool's quest and wants to play no role in it. While I seek healing from the very institution that inflicted this wound upon us, he would rather have it brought down one brick at a time. So, should I fulfill my quest, I run the risk of finding myself bereft of my brother. Yet, I fly like an arrow...

- Aino Nystad

Character descriptions:

Kullervo Nystad
- Unyielding and tough as the stone that is his company and having been raised among the harshness of the mountains, and knowing only the company of gruff miners and a busy father, Kullervo is himself a reserved and private person. He lends his trust only sparingly, and with the loss of all his family sans his sister, he is now alone in a world with little recourse. Though he despises the system that rules Britannia, he is generally a good and well to do person who keeps his promises, but tends to hold grudges and take every slight, real or imagined, to heart.

Aino Nystad
- A master mage with a mind as deep as the western ocean and the beauty of a golden sunrise, Aino is a scholar and a lady without peer. Studying in Moonglow at an early age, she has a deep appreciation for all things mystical, is tenacious by nature and has an acute understanding of politics. Though her appearance and demeanor may tell otherwise, she is sometimes doubtful at heart, both of her abilities and her capacity to be there for her family.
