April's BSR was held on a pleasant Saturday night with 25 shooters all competing for the same prize, the engraved bow and a spot in the season-ending Champions shoot-off.
Toni Fierce, GM of Misfits of Society , and Master of Ceremonies for the BSR contests, welcomed this group of talented archers and gave the night's instructions.
The first pairings and 70 points to move to Round Two started with Aragon and Frigin Azim and moved smoothly until Richard Lionheart posted the night's first Robin Hood (RH), maybe an archer to watch, but his pairing mate Maci was the night's first butte victim with a 30 and she was gone. This round saw three other archers showing their talent with scores of 200; Claudia Drusilla, Sanarr and Avex.
24 archers moved to Round Two where 100 points in three shots will move you onward. Failing to make this round were Ken Katana, and Daphne. Starting to show their mettle were Lil Debi, Maleki, Farin Barkum, and BumbleBee. The crowd was now getting excited when all ready eight archers showed they were prepared to take the crown away with them. It should also be noted that seven other archers have shot perfectly with six bulls-eyes each. During this round there was a butte failure while Soul Crusher and Bain were shooting. At first look they both would have been gone with scores of 70. Some in the crowd wondered whether the butte distraction was not caused by Soul Crusher who seemed to enjoy the pleasant spring weather by NOT wearing any clothes!! But in all fairness they were both given re-shots and both passed onto Round Three.
Round Three where 150 points and 3 bulls-eyes moves you onward found 10 archers failing this test while 10 other archers were still in the hunt for the crown (and were now thinking "if I can shoot a 200 in Round Four the title could be mine").
Round Four where 200 points could capture the crown requires not only 2 bulls-eyes but to split one of your arrows for the fabled robin hood.
Ahebban, a long time shooter from the Society of Archers days, put up his first 200 of the evening and sat down awaiting the others to shoot. Next up was Richard Lionheart who posted another 200, and now at least two shooters were in a Fifth Round shoot off. None of the other archers could match these two, and a five-shot shoot-off between the two was coming. Although not making the shoot-off but having an outstanding night were Sean Brega with 12 straight bulls-eyes, Sanarr with 11 bulls-eyes and a RH, and Llama with 12 straight bulls-eyes.
The shoot-off had Ahebban step up first, and he comely placed five arrows in the center of the target for five bulls- eyes and 250 points. Richard Lionheart then stepped up and more then equaled Ahebban's feat by posting three bulls-eyes and two RHs for an outstanding 350 points, and with cheering from the crowd captured April's BSR crown and the rewards that go with it; an engraved bow, a 1 million gold check and a seat in the season-ending Champion of Champions shoot-off. Toni Fierce congratulated Lionheart thanked the crowd, and invited everyone to May's Best shot in the Realm, which will be held on Saturday, May 29th at Skara Brae Fairgrounds starting at 8:30 p.m. Pacific time (9:30 Mountain, 10:30 Central, 11:30 Eastern).
