Newbie Seeks Shard + Making Money?

Hi! I've been playing for a few days and I really like the game. I plan on Subbing in about a week. Anyway, I'm on Atlantic now since I've read that is one of the most popular. However, after making my character I also read that it may be hard to find a house/plot there.

I'd like to customize my house, but for my first it's not that big of a deal. So, I'm looking for a shard with space for new houses or reasonably priced one. Population doesn't matter too much since I play at weird hours. But weekends and late night PST or MST times would be great.

Now for making money. I'd like to be crafter. Are BODs and crafting for others the best ways to make gold. I see folks with MILLIONS of gold and I'm thinking gold making isn't terribly hard.

Obviously im biased because great lakes is my main shard, but it probably has the second highest population and there are plenty of house spots available.

Great Lakes is a good shard with plenty of space but I would suggest sticking with Atlantic.

Atlantic is by far the most popular shard which makes it ideal for crafting/earning gold. I am not saying other shards are also not good for this but Atlantic is currently the best and has been for a long time now. If you dont believ me just check out how many people xfer into Atlantic just to sell their goods.

There are plenty of open spots for small to medium size customizable plots.
If you want a large/max plot you will need to put in some time and effort on any decent shard so I say stick with the busiest shard from the beginning. You do not want to spend alot of time on another shard only to realize it is not busy enough for your playstyle.

The downside to playing/starting on Atlantic is that you are in the most competetive market by far so it can be rough until you get proficient (crafting or pvping)

A smallish house should be easy enough to get even on Atlantic. Focus on skilling up, and when you're ready, consider getting the Stygian Abyss expansion. Then you can farm the Abyss for imbuing ingredients and sell them for nice money.

There are plenty of small house spots on atlantic thats all you need to start and then epand from there. Also house decay should be coming on soon and when that happens there will be plenty of open spaces on all the shards.

Talk to Flutter or Devin on Catskills. They know many housing spots Has a medium size population and east coast time Plenty of stuff to do and and active population.

I've just started on Atlantic just before Xmas and have managed to skill up and create a couple of LRC suits, make my own rune books and mark locations just from working out of the bank chest. I have several character types working together on Haven. Money to finance this tends to come from killing Ettins at the moment but I've manage to accrue a couple of hundred K in that period (gems aren't cheap for the imbuing). I've tried Drach, Europa and LS but I like it here, it's busier and the locals seem very friendly.

If you are going to get into crafting for the money, then you may be disappointed, as there are so many ways to make money at a faster rate. However if you enjoy working on your skills, making nice things for yourself and others, and occasionally making a valuable piece, then crafting is the way to go.

With regards to which shard to pick, look at the latency/connection display on the sign on screen and pick the one with the best connection.
