Saw some guy wearing Armour of Initiation set in Luna..blessed, resists on each piece 9/9/9/9/9 and Brittle. Since he was/is a returning player, I take it this means the new welcome packs are live?

Part of the new player kit - I think this has been "live" for about 2 weeks now, nearly.

Guessing Amasetto = Armour Set :) Looks like a nice little package though.

Gotta love when things are released into the game and NOT mentioned on the Herald. Once again the Japanese CS trumps Mythic's.

So its basically GM armor that can't be repaired.

That's, uhm, really underwhelming for newbies. At least its blessed, I suppose.

No offense to whoever created this kit, but i agree - very underwhelming. At least give the newbie a a couple hundred thousand gold. Everything is so inflated these days, 20k doesn't really buy anything.

First, thanks to Promathia for posting the screencap.

Brittle stuff can be repaired. It just can't be PoFed.

It is a spectacularly underwhelming piece, though.

With the following qualifier that has to be made: It's a set, which means, typically, that the entire set will have much greater properties than the sum of its part.

However....What on earth is the point of giving people just 1 piece of the set? Wouldn't it be nice to give the returners an entire set of, say, all 60 resists and 1 of each regen or something like that? Something that'll make them at least semi-viable straight out?

When I first read the announcement, which has I think yet to be posted on the UO Herald (am I right on that, or have I just missed it?), I had assumed they'd be getting a full suit of armor.

If this is aimed at returning players, imagine if they haven't played since, say, a month after AoS, and they log in in Dull Copper Plate, GM made, which these days is rather horrid.

At least they can walk around with a weird looking leather suit that will have them viable enough to, say, farm troglodytes or something.

EDIT: Anyone know what's up with the other ticket, the Queen Dawn ticket?

1. The picture IS the full set actually. Puts you at 54 each resist.
2. The ticket activates the skill gain acceleration. You can dble click it to turn it off and on (I decided to make a character name that would look good on the ticket)
3. Looks like the information is on the Japan UO site, but not ours.

Interesting...It's not a "set" as the term is commonly understood in UO then.

From that link:

Item Sets are related groups of equippable items that, when equipped together, have properties that are greater than simply the sum of their parts.
Many thanks for the clarification.

It would be a true Set if the total properties were greater than the sum of the parts.

(Or were the resists as individual pieces even worse?)

At least, say, 70 Physical, rest 60, or something! And toss on a couple of regenerations.

It does indeed look good; hope they don't suddenly decide to start enforcing the rule about not using a character from Ultima Lore, though!

There's enough crafters named "The Avatar" or "Dupre" running around to render that very much irrelevant, though.

Skill gain acceleration is indeed neat.

Sad.

heck they coulda just gave a virtue armor set. still at least an effort. Perhaps they could create mid lvl skill quests for major skills, maybe somethin to help raise from 50 to like 75/80ish? Basically a tier 2 of new haven quests, could add them and make gargoyle versions of some of the existing quests.

Its a half-assed effort at best. They could, ya know, finish New Haven... Give the newbie gargoyles any quests of their own. Perhaps a new player experience that actually teaches a newbie how to play the game for more than 5 mins.

more than i got when i started. i would have killed for that armor and 20k instead of being naked with 1k. due to mudflation there's little they can do for new players. give them too much and they wont appreciate what they have because they didn't have to work for it like we did. mudflation continues to be one of the top hurdles towards new player entry in UO.

Hello, new players get 'brittle' armor THAT MAKES THEM LOOK LIKE A PUMPKIN! How cool is that??? Nothing says 'awesome game' to a new player like ugly armor that turns you a ghastly shade of gold-orange.

I don't understand ... EA giving new players free stuff to make them die less often, and people worried about not being good enough or colored right? Whaaaaat.... if 54 physical isn't good enough to kill skeletons and zombies then the noob shouldn't be playing video games to begin with.

Depending on the number of new accounts, this armour set could become one of the rarest around. Considering that selling this set would give a new player a real boost. Only that someone should tell them not to use/wear this armour set. :D

For a real new player it doesn't look too bad. For any of us making new accounts... not so useful.

So here is to hopefully getting some actual new players!

was thinkin more on how they should add, and expand on new player quests for all races. thought why dont they have a contest or something similar where they have players right the quests scripts etc. Basically taking some of the work load of adding new quests by putting the words up to us. Just somethin to think about, im sure its not too hard for them to write the dialog, prolly just timely for coding the actually content hehe. anyways maybe a quest for players that have finished in new haven, one that basically lays out some common sense realistic tips for people new to our game. things like hotspots for trade and discussion (luna, brit west, etc) tips for conducting trade safely, even the old tried and true method of playing garbage man and collecting dropped items from hotspots to sell or use. I do like they give some runebooks though, should give some type of self marking rune perhaps, so they can mark a few spots for themselves without having the skill and regs.
Also could use a better explanation of the pvp ruleset areas, i dont think theres anything other then the warning gump when goin to fel. A small rundown of each Facet could be added to a npc in new haven im sure. Really the whole new player experience could use an update, not just a hand full items but alil guidance.

Sounds like there really trying gauge how many new players they can bring in. If it was something actually usefull you would have vets buying it for the items. Personally I can`t see Vets buying it. Considering for Vets that stuff fairly crappy.

Hear hear :thumbup1: The relevant phrase is "new player" - this is not an insta-vet kit, in my experience there are enough guilds and individual players who are prepared to help out new players taking them on hunts and maybe donating equipment, and doing the Haven quests gives low-mid-range gear that will actually be relevant to the character's profession. Like [JD] I started years ago with almost nothing and had fun and learned a lot by working my way up, I appreciate what I have now all the more for it and that's why I don't plan to ever close my first account, even when I've been unable to play for months at a time I kept it active. Maybe the power gamers would like to jump straight into the soloing the Doom gauntlet but a for a genuine newbie, or even a returning player who needs to relearn pretty much everything, it's about more than becoming high-level as quickly as possible

All trammel bank runes is a bit bland.

A variety of locations would be more interesting for the player.

Perhaps even a special blessed rune. Activating it asks if you'd like to mark this location or travel to the previously stored location. This would be extremely useful for new players. It could have a limit of 100 charges or something.

I agree. No one's really ever at most of the banks either. They could atleast throw a dungeon and/or grave yard in there. Or even make a specific runebook for each template. That would be helpful someone just coming into the game.

How does this work? Does it have a timer on it? Would a person be able to use it and then turn it off before it's all used up?

My husband hasn't ever played UO, might be fun.
