Newbie Again - Need Help with Dexterity -12%!

Hello - I'm a 65 year old gamer (66 next month) who is a Newbie for the Third Time in UO. I played it when it first came out in 1997, and then again in 2006, and have just jumped back into it again recently. In '97 I played it to death! I played the UO shards, then went on to play privately hosted shards. Don't ask me where, when, who, etc - I don't remember most of it -- probably because I was having too much fun to commit much to memory except how to play the game. In '06 I played for only a few months and ran into enough extreme PK'ers to sour me on it. I'm back again now because, well, I just don't care about PK'ers. If they want to take me down, I won't even fight them. I'll just play always aware of where the healer is, and will always have my best equipment in the bank. In other words, I'm not going to let the Pk'ers bother me. To each his own - they're mostly a minor annoyance anyway.

Why am I here? Ok, to the point. I playing an archer that's got a hex on him that has put an icon in the upper left corner that when moused over shows "Dexterity -12%"

It doesn't have a time left counter on it - and no matter what I do it won't go away. It's like its permanent - and hey, an archer needs all the dex he can get. I've tried stripping naked (everything put into the bank box) to see if its something I'm wearing; no joy. I tried drinking poison antidotes, but apparently I'm not poisoned - just hexed.

If this is a dumb question, please be kind. I did search for "Dexterity - 12%" in the forums, and I got a lot of hits, none of which seemed to have any bearing. Any help you can offer will be graciously appreciated.

It's a display bug.... Most of the time this happens you really aren't still affected, you just have a stuck icon.

Have someone cast the first level spell that reduces dex on you; you should be able to do that from scroll, casting on yourself.

That should fix the problem (as the spell will get a counter, and disappear).

If it doesn't, try having a person with Chivalry cast Remove curse on you, or wearing a talisman of curse removal and using it on yourself.

If these fail to fix the problem, page a GM.

Tell us what the icon looks like and we can tell what spell needs to be cast on you.


These things happen when you have a curse spell on you and you log out before the timer is gone. Then when you log in again the icon is always there untill that spell have been cast again on you.

Thanks for your help! The icon is red, two legs that look like they're stumbling - and the curse is "Clumsy"

Cast the clumsy spell on you or let someone cast it. Or fight some spellcasting monster to restart the timer and it will be fixed.

The problem is solved! As instructed, I used a clumsy scroll on myself and 45 seconds later the icon disappeared. Thanks everyone!
