Newb miner needs help!

Ok, I had miner 6 years ago, but a lot has changed since then. Im making new miner now. What should I know?

What are the best places to mine? (No (or very few) monster spawn etc.)

What are these fire beetles people are talking about?

What pets my miner needs? Mostly for carrying and protecting myself (Is there any pet which bonds and is strong enough to protect miner from lesser monsters? I know golem can protect but I think golem does not bond?)

Anything else I should know?

Best places to mine Fel guard zones. Or any place with ore.

Fire beetles are walking forges and you can smelt your ore into ingots on them.

Guard pets: A fully trained fire bug or blue beetle will take down lesser spawn like ogres and trolls and so on. So it realy just depends on which bug you like better. Personally I run with a fire beetle.
