New player to UO

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself a bit. I'm new to UO, and I'm loving it.

Well, new isn't really the truth. I played the beta back in 1997, and had a blast with it, good memories. Unfortunately, I couldn't play upon release, and the years went by, and I sort of assumed UO was dead, or hosted only on private servers or something.

I played quite a number of games, some MMOs, but as the years went by, I grew tired of the modern games/mmos, and the crowd it now gathers. If any of you have played games like WOW, you know what I mean.

I'm 37 years old, and I've been playing games since atari 2600 and coleco vision. Gaming used to be fun. Used to be about friends helping each others progress thru it. And they used to be a challenge.

I've played many MUDs as well.

Until recently, I wasn't gaming much anymore, but I gave a try to Kingdom of Amalur, and even tho the combat are nice, they could have included more hard to physically master moves (ala street fighter) and take it a bit deeper. It was refreshing for a couple of hours and got old pretty quickly.

I then looked at Torchlight 2 and it was refreshing as well, but ended up grewing old after a couple of weeks.

I looked at some older games like Baldur's Gate and such, but I really wanted to play with some people...

I learned that Ultima Online was still going on, and stronger than I would have thought, so I gave the trial a spin, chose the Atlantic server because I'm from Québec, Canada (yes, I'm native french), and here I am.

So far, I'm really loving it. The worst is thinking I have actually missed a lot by not looking for it earlier.

I have created two characters so far, Khundar and Elandril, and you will probably be seeing me quite often, and I just purchased a 6 month game time card to really give it a try.

Currently, I'll be playing more on Elandril (my crafter), because I was given a nice starter armor on Khundar, by Denise, and I didn't wanted it to break and be destroyed. Plus, I think it is a must to have one handy for your other characters?

As a side note, one of my favourite game as a teenager was Ultima 6 :)

Welcome back to UO! Ultima online is the most versatile game ever! A game that you can own and decorate houses, castles, players can run their events decorating as they like, people can run their own casinos, create their own towns. There is so much to do on this game, and time can fly! Treasure hunting, fishing SOS's, dungeon runs... I am glad to hear that you are giving the game a serious chance :) I "hang" around Luna, if you find yourself in need of anything, and if I can be of assistance, let me know =)

Welcome Home!!!!

if you have any need, just ask and the players on Atlantic for the most part will help you along the path. If your having trouble finding places, check out Goodmans Memorial Rune Library in Makoto, its the second gate in Takuno Islands, Makoto-Jima. Goodmans is just up from the gate, first house on the right after you exit the city. Ask around if you cannot find it, someone will show you the way.

Have a fun journey, and if you need help, dont hesitate to ask.

Thanks!

For the first time in years, I felt real fear of dying in a game! Since I joined, until yesterday, I stayed in New Haven, and sort of found it comfy! I was scared of venturing out, die and lose my body! I don't have much, but what I have is all I have!

So, yesterday, I set out to Britain, and went to find some mountain range to mine a bit of ore there. Spent the night picking and digging, and it went really great! I had a Grimm troubling me, it killed my packy once, but I managed to flee away. Tried to throw him a fireball, but noticed he was way more powerful than I! Barely dented his HP with my weak fireball.

I noticed in Britain, lots of player's houses and stuff, and even stumbled upon a pretty strange house with no staircase but with hidden teleport stones... thought I was stuck on the last floor for a bit, sort of a trap.

Discovering any MMO is always (or most of the time) a very nice experience, but UO is something else.... to see a game with 15 years of history, with many player added stuff, is something else.

So far, I'm loving it, and would love to find a newbie guild, so I can play with people that doesnt know the game inside and out... I'd like to discover the game at a slower pace and enjoy it as much as I can while it still feels shiny and new. Once you start to know the mechanics, the little things that gives you an edge, and stuff, the game starts to lose a bit... IMO... like when you're at the stage of running dps meter and such, you aren't enjoying the game anymore... at least for me. Sure the first few days you run the meter, it's nice, you beat yourself, figure some different, better, builds... but in the end... the best time is when you don't know all this stuff.

I was wondering why I was seeing so much ICQ numbers in the forums here, but just remembered there is no friends list in UO. Which is sort of nice anyway... so I registered myself an account with ICQ, and here is my account:
611072986

For the moment, I would mostly like to find a guild that is mostly new players, so we can venture here and there, for the sake of exploring, not getting to a rare spawn and kill it, and look for specific items...

I'm mostly playing on my crafter atm, so I'm raising skills like Mining, Blacksmithing, Tinkering, Magery....

Regarding Stygian Abyss and High Seas, should I wait a bit before purchasing these, or they can be enjoyed with a starting character/account?

Welcome to Atlantic.

The best place to find a guild would probably be in New Haven. Alot of people hang out there that tend to help new/returning players. Talk to peeps and see if you fit in with their play style or just go for a hunt with a few people. You don't have to be guilded just to enjoy an adventure.

As for the expansions...hmm..The Stygian Abyss probably isn't the best place for a beginner, but as you work up your skills there are spots there that are easier than others.
High Seas expansion...hmm..not sure about that one. Perhaps someone else can answer that one for you.

But once again...welcome home!

Hello and welcome to Atlantic! I'm sure you know that you have much to learn about but what a fun journey! There are some excellent webpages that can assist in your learning curve. www.uoguild.com is an excellent resource. Just type in an item or subject you want to search for and learn away! On their main page is the New Player Guide - UOGuide, the Ultima Online encyclopedia link which gives a short overview of the game if you need it.

High Seas can be enjoyed with a new character, especially a fisher. And if you want to add in the Britannian ship, you'll be sailing the high seas in style. :)

Again, welcome and safe travels to you!

Welcome back! I myself have been off and on form UO (mostly due to life events). Everytime I get back into UO it is a blast though. It is just one of those games that never truly gets boring. There are always great people to meet and lots to do. PM me if you ever need some assistance, advice, hunting partner, etc. Also, feel free to approach me in game if you see me. Good luck on your return and enjoy Ultima!

Welcome back,

and as easy as it might be to accept hand outs from everyone... I suggest you don't. Enjoy the game for awhile, you will have a more accomplished feeling when you collect that first 100k to place a house etc... that "new" experience will only last so long.. and personally I think getting handouts from other players kind of ruins it. Just my opinion though.

Have fun and stay away from General Chat for awhile too.. that kind of ruins game play too.
