New player here with a question

Hi all,
I just started playing this game. I have a trial acct and have been at it for three days straight now. it is addictive. My question is regarding stuff I need, you know equipment. I made a mage character and got my inscription up to 68 or 70 now., I still have young status of course, but now that I found out how to get off the island of haven There is way better stuff to kill.

I found the ants and a dungeon with ettins (died there) yesterday. Today I was reading the forum about Trinsic so I moon gated there and died a bunch of times. I got stuck in the healer building and it was full of the evil guys and they kept killing me. I am digressing, I know.
-anyway, Is there a place where I can buy some armor that doesn't cost so much? I saw some armor in luna but it was really expensive -like so expensive it should be in a museum.
I have a few quest items from haven like the hat and the spell book and the ring and the bracelet. I also got a staff for the mage quest. I wear those (except the staff, it lowers my mage skill) and a leather collar I found on something I killed and I got some leather pants/armor the same way. I assume mage armor is like in D&D where it has to be leather, plus it seems I am not strong enough to wear metal.

I have around 15k gold, (a very kind archer in trinsic gave me some gold this afternoon) will that be enough to buy like a player made armor set? and if so, where is it sold?

Note that while I am grateful for the kindness in the gift of money, I am not looking for a handout.

As for a nice suit and new player help, look for Charlemagne or Dar around Luna, when the former is not busy beating on Bane in one of the invaded cities. To get you started, Sister Frances has been given a basic 100%LRC all 70's suit for you, and a bit of gold so you can insure it.

Trinsic is a baaaaaddd place right now, we saw you running about (I think) - this game is meant to be played with a group, really. If you see folks fighting in and around Trinsic - ask if you can help and join the group - or just start killing stuff while they are. Few will complain. You get healing assistance, res'd when need be and generally have a far better time!

cool, I will look for you. I saw people with dragons killing stuff, was that you?
My name is Cynisca. I was riding a horse, but I lost it the first time I died there. I had to buy three horses in the last 24 hours.
It seems I have just lost my young status whilst practicing my hiding. Says my skill is respectable enough to not be considered young. what does hide skill level have to do with young status?

Hail & welcome to Baja! Your best bet is to use General Chat; you will find that Baja is full of helpful people. I do not remember the exact number (total) that tips the balance with 'young status' but that is why one is no longer considered young. See you in Sosaria!

Not sure what Shard you are on, but use General Chat to ask others on your Shard. Most Shards have Folks or Groups specifically pledged to aid New and Returning Players. If you are intent on doing it with NO help then do things less dangerous to raise gold, then buy best low end suit and step up to next level in difficulty of creatures etc to hunt.

Ask in Chat for Guilds recruiting so you have others to assist in hunts and resurrections to limit your risk of losing your stuff.

Ultima Online will be enjoyed the most and the longest by those who reach out to others and who become part of the Community.

Going solo, or as a loner from the git go can be done but will pose an even greater challenge.

Above all else. Never give up on UO. I have played UO, or rather lived in Sosaraia going on 14 years now. Unlimited fum and enjoyment, and opportunity to meet folks from all over and become friends.

no need to waste anymore gold on horses, llamas, or what ever you want to ride.... as others indicated, use general chat call out for any tamer to take a few seconds to go and tame you a new mount when yours dies. the simple ridable mounts can be tamed by any tamer even the least experienced ones.

Just keep one in the stables (first feed it) and then a week later (feed it again), it'll bond.

Better yet, when you die and your mount is just wandering around and about to get chewed up by monsters, log off. Your pet will be sent automatically to the stables.

Log in again, your pet will be missing. Get your stuff, suit back up and then when safe, log off again. When you log back in, your pet will be right there next to you, safe and sound.

Basically, if you log off while you're a ghost, your pet will be sent to the stables. It'll come back again when you log back in and not a ghost.
