Greetings and Hello!

I'm starting up a UO free trial account today, and have not played UO since pre-AoS. So I think it's safe to say that I'm a fresh newbie. I was wondering if anyone had any good tips regarding starting out? Things like decent ways to make money/things to be concerned with/resources to reference out of game/etc? I'm glad to see stratics up and running still!

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide!

Well, the first advice I think is the choice of a well populated shard.

I would suggest Atlantic for east coast and Pacific for west coast.

The trial account has limitations, I am not sure what all of them are but I think trial accounts can only mine iron ore and chop plain wood. None of the special ones.

Trial accounts do not allow access to several places like Stygian Abyss, for example. They cannot own a house if I remember well.

Not sure what else.

After the shard, the second thing I can suggest is join a good Guild on that shard you will pick, that can help get started. I do not play those shards, though, so others might be more helpfull in pointing out good ones.

Welcome back and hope you will have lots of fun again with Ultima Online !!!

Thanks for the advice!

Coincidentally, I rolled on Atlantic and am on the east coast. That's pretty lucky I'd say! Seems like I have a lot of research to do; looking at the stygian abyss expansion they added "battle chicken". I think that summarizes how different the game is from the time I used to play it! I'm not sure if I will start paying for an account, but I definitely want to give it a fair shot to grow on me.

Again, thanks for the quick replies :)

I would suggest ¨forking out¨ 10 bucks to reactivate you old account if you still have access
. Use your miner or lumberjack to gather resources you can sell or use to raise some crafts . You also might have some old valuable stuff you could sell to get you started and you will be able to place a small house . Ill be happy to show you some spots and help appraise some items you might have. I play Atlantic also. Just shoot me a pm.

Oh and UWF is a great guild for new or returning players on Atl.

I am playing on LS but alot of the people I used to play with have moved on to Atlantic (ATL) and Great Lakes (GL). Welcome back... you have alot of catching up to do. I know that when I came back after a long tme that so much had changed it did not even feel like the same game anymore. I don't get to play as much as I would like so I am still learning something new every day. I am also still debating to hop over to ATL or GL with my old friends or not as it seems (to me anyway) that LS is nowhere as active as those shards.

Stick to New Haven and the island and monster spawns on and around it for the time being. Do the noob quests for your skills; you still be rewarded with a semi-useful item for each one.

On New Haven Island, there's an ettin spawn that can be useful to hunt, on the west side of the island, near some cave entrance. That is useful for early gold farming.

Also visit Luna, as sometimes people leave useful items there or at the New Haven Bank.

When you are ready visit the old dungeons, which are variously referred to as the "legacy" dungeons, Anti-Virtue Dungeons, or the Dungeons of Sin. Especially Despise and, later, Shame.

After that, there's a newer dungeon called the Painted Caves, with monsters called troglodytes, that are considered great for gold farming especially for a warrior.

For any questions, keep in mind here, UO Forums, and UOGuide.com (a wiki).

I don't know whether to say welcome back or welcome aboard.

Thanks for the great responses!

Unfortunately I have no idea what my old account information is, or what e-mail I was using at the time. It kind of stinks, I know I have some of the no level restriction furniture dye tubs from clean up Britannia and a few other goods that may be worth a bundle now.

I had no idea that there's a quest system now in UO. I got lost so fast around Haven, but I was able to find the moongate. I ended up back at the vesper graveyard. After I purchased my skill up to 25-30ish I farmed skeletons until I had a full set of bone armor. I was trying to save some money for some arrows but the arrows are pretty expensive when you buy them from a vendor. I'm glad vendors stock them in stacks of 5000 though, that's a real nice touch. I tried to go to covetous to fell some harpies but I forgot about night sight potions.

One question:

Yesterday I was receiving some weird blue chat with a 8786786 in front of it where a player was roleplaying with another player that he was Barrack Obama trying to decide if he should issue the order to invade another country... is there anyway top stop this? As you can tell my first day back has been a very interesting one! :p

That is Global Chat. You turn it off by clicking the chat button (in the Classic Client it's in that set of buttons over the gameplay screen, if you can't see it click the little arrowhead icon thingie; in the Enhanced Client I have no idea), and where you would select a chat channel to join, click "leave" or "exit" or something. Then you'll be in no chat channel.

However if you wish to talk, press the comma key and talk. Sometimes people will be very helpful in there.

As to quests....Oh my....There are actually 2 or 3 quest engines now. One is accessible from your context menu (click yourself, or hold down shift and click yourself to access; this is also how you insure your items so you won't lose them, but it costs gold). The other is from the "quest" button on your paper doll.

The noob quests, which it sounds like you're already beyond, are in the second quest engine.

The third one...I'm not sure it's really quest engine or not and is only used at events, and not for awhile.

You will see people complain that the older dungeons are worthless now but as you have discovered they are of great use in training up a character.

Oh. If you like events, there's various game-wide events (we're being invaded about every other day), and there is a new kind of seer called an Event Moderator on most shards; they hold shard-specific events and flesh out the game-wide events.

But you may want to GM your skills before you participate.....

Unfortunately I have no idea what my old account information is, or what e-mail I was using at the time.

You might give it a try, nonetheless, calling on the phone, customer support, and telling them that you are a player wishing to return to the game and reactivate your old account.

I do not have the phone number handy but someone else might be able to point to it. I think it has been reported in some posts on Stratics, perhaps if you do a search for it you might find it.

Hopefully, since this means more revenues, customer support might be willing to try help you out on this.

You should at least try to remember on what name the account was registered or, if you were paying with a credit card, the details for that credit card.

An alternative would be, providing them with the original registration number (the one that was on the game CD jewel case) that you used when you first registered your account.

I would imagine that that number could possibly help them locate your account and reactivate it.

Good luck and welcome back to ultima Online !!
