New guild changes

According to the latest publish:

Guild Voting Changes
"Added functionality to resolve guild hierarchy issues when a guild has no active (characters that have logged in within the last 30 days) voting members. When a guild has no active voting members (Guild Leader, Warlords, Emissaries or Members) and only has active non-voting members (Ronins) the system will now hold a special election which will promote the guild member (Ronin) that was most recently active to become the guild master. If the system is unable to identify the most recently active member, it will randomly select an active guild member (Ronin) to promote. This special election will ONLY occur when there are no active voting guild members."

This is fine and dandy but what about guilds where no members are active at all? Ive been scrolling through the guild system and saw guilds that haven't been active since the bucs den server wars.

What i suggest is a guild condem system that basically work like housing. Keep the 30 day check for active members but if that reads < 0 then start a 60 day guild decay. Would work like housing not only having it all 90 days but also with the ability to stop the decay by logging in. This would free up some of abbrevs.

Thoughts?

History and people keeping their guild names, lists, and identification, are more important than freeing up abbreviations.

There are millions of combinations out there for you, no need to take them from others.

I agree with Korik. While it stinks to not get the name you want taking it from someone is essentially claiming their history and that isn't right.

Your history holds no weight with me. If that was the case players wouldn't quit, correct? If it were that important to players they would petition for no more idocs since that's obviously part of that players history as well, right?

Sir, i play Atlantic. When checking guilds i clicked through over 400 pages of guilds. If there were millions of combinations out there they wouldn't have added in the 4th letter YEARS ago.

Who said anything about taking someone's guild name? It's the abbrev that's causing problems.

It's much more interesting to see abbrevs that make words or even sense rather than seeing [>1-3] just because a one man band killed mongbats in 1996 to make enough gold to form a guild then quit never to be seen again.

It was just an idea and i see things from a business standpoint. If a business goes under (compare to a player quitting) then their business name becomes available again (see my idea).

Numerous players and guilds have come and gone with time. It seems like the old players are the ones that the Devs hope come back and doing this gives them less incentive. Also the guild abbreviation is the same as the guild name as it is what everyone sees. If your upset about not being able to find one you like I am sorry, but I sure never have and I fell that the history of a 14 year old game is something special and I imagine many others feel the way I do. Finally if you didn't want people challenging you probably should have put that you only wanted supportive posts not anyone that can disagree. Especially since both are vaild arguments.

As someone who ran a guild that sadly folded and no longer takes on members I still hold the guild because of its history and the memories I have of times shared within the guild and later the two alliances that I formed - the second of which still exists today and has grown to include countless other guilds.

In no way should guilds decay, much like character names should not be unique or decay with time.

I accept challenges but for the issue to be "history" then turn around and have 0 problem with people looting these historic fallen homes and even their old guildstones is quite hypocritical don't you agree? Yes, im sure keeping a guild tag is enough incentive to return to a 14 year old game when half these returning players can't even remember their own log in info. Lastly, if it were such a historic guild to you or anyone else, you would obviously be in it right? So you could use an active player to keep it going.

As someone who ran a guild that sadly folded and no longer takes on members I still hold the guild because of its history and the memories I have of times shared within the guild and later the two alliances that I formed - the second of which still exists today and has grown to include countless other guilds.
You holding a stone with an active player is great. All i'm saying is if there's 0 members that log in 90 days then it dies where the next one man show can possibly make the next big hit.

I don't hold a guild stone.
I have at least 4 of my chars in the guild and log in regularly to those characters. I also still show my guild tag all the time and the guild is always recognised as one of the two founding guilds of the alliance that is currently in place and despite the guild not being active I still get to vote on alliance matters along with all other GM's

Also as I took an extended break I would have lost the guild the alliance wouldn't be valid (though still in existance) and all that history would then be gone forever

Not to mention all the military personnel that could be away. Additionally history is what was not what is. Thats why we call it history. Just because something died doesn't mean its forgotten. While you may not care it seems more people do.

When a house used to fall the guild would go with it. Any guild still in existence post-guildstone changes isn't that historic. Afterall, we can hold up to seven different guilds per shard per account. Otherwise, it's pretty easy to make a website tribute, or the like. I mean, I can understand protecting REALLY old guilds like the ones which have a longer abbreviation than four characters, but any guild with three or four characters should be fair game for decay. What happens when an old member wants to respect an old guild by bringing it back but can't because the old guild will never decay? I'd say maybe six months following a thirty-day absence of anyone logging in to the guild, and perhaps an auction system to alert users of approaching guild decays (probably out of reach, but would be pretty neat).

How about a "2 expansion" rule?

If no alliance member above ronin has logged in during the last 2 expansions, and no ronin had the gumption to promote himself, the guild gets disbanded ONLY if someone requests that guild abbreviation.

So, any guild that last had a normal member or higher log in during SE or Earlier would be disbanded. If a new full expansion is released, it would put those inactive during the ML era at risk.

I think the simplicity is that the only really unique names in the games are guilds and their abbreviations. While some may not like having to make sense of whets left there are still options. Additionally everyone that came before you had to make due. No matter what kind of compromises you try and place people are going to complain. Character names are not unique but guild names and titles have always been unique. History didn't stop just because there is a newer expansion and to be honest it has never been as big an issue as housing. Which Lythos is not all that historic as you used to be able to steal houses all the time.
