New character creation is not WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) with some templates. Can this

For instance if I choose the character template Saumurai, and go off to choose my clothing colors, I am not given these colored clothes, nor am I given the type of clothes shown. I am instead given some drab dull foreign looking clothes that aren't what I expected to see at all.

I also am not able to choose my footwear color, although it's plain I'll be given footwear. This applies across all character templates.

I can create a character and dye the samurai clothes to whatever colors I choose, so why can't the new character template colors be dyed into and displayed as the clothes I'll be wearing.

It is currently a pain to create colored clothes that you'd like to see only to finally login to the character created and be let down by this horrible bleak looking uniform you never even asked for, with no sign of the clothes you did choose colors for being provided anywhere. It's like being drafted into the Army.

I therefore request that the EA/Mythic Dev Team to consider at least giving us the colors and clothes we choose at character creation, or optionally giving us a choice of the colors and clothes to pick, instead of these drab dull template colors.

The same should be applied for any other template that creates colors/clothes according to profession.

If this is a problem for the non-english players expecting this kind of color scheme on their shards, then there should be a clearly labelled checkmark jewel for them to uncheck if they wish to create a character with colorful clothes. The default should be so that it will just create the usual themed colors/clothes. It should also be clearly explained that this is an option, and which is available to them should they ever wish to create a non-standard look for their character.

I shouldn't have to go to a tailor just to make sure my newly created character is wearing what I originally wanted him to!

Cheers ...

I have to say ... designer cloths are not starting equipment. You don't even need any skill, just a few gold. Why design an entire UI to skip one of the oldest little fun systems of the game: selecting an outfit at the tailor shop?

There are colors and hues which aren't available at the tailor shop. And anyway, why should I go to the trouble of buying clothes for my character because I got these dull uninteresting items I hadn't asked for?

Ultima Online is all about choices. And I'd like to have back my character creation choices, I don't always have the time to spend going to a tailor shop and manually outfitting him. If I at least have the choice of basic outfitting at character creation time, I have the choice of making my character what I really want him to look like from the moment of creation.

I also sometimes don't have a lot of time to worry about what the character's going to be wearing. But I would still like to be able to pick them myself.

Yeah...I'm gonna have to cosign on that one. I remember creating my first characters and the feeling i got as i entered the world with rags on and how the feeling of poverty and the desire for better clothes motivated me.

I don't like the idea of pimping out your toons in character creation. If you want better gear, you are gonna have to work for it. Upon entering the world, you are supposed to be poor and weak so having nice clothes just doesn't fit.

So what is the point of character creation at all, then? They may as well hand you a totally blank "toon", and then send you to some weird NPC who does your clothes hair etc, for you, for a "fee".

I don't see creating a new character as "pimping out" at all. Pimping out would be allowing the new character to have blaze hair riding a blaze cu sidhe at Luna bank on creation. Basic character clothing customization/coloring options do not exist for templates that give you one look only, and this is what I want to see implemented. The irony of it all is that if I do not wish to use their templates, I can make a customized character, concerning everything from skills to color of clothing.

I just would like to see a change from the drab dullness of character templates designed for Samurai and other classes of character. If that's too much to ask I may as well consider if it's worth the time and expense to go build a tailor on every shard I intend to play on just to get half-decent clothing to start out in the world with.

And if that's the case, I'd like to have a secure account character item transfer box in my bank box, so I can place a small number of items in it and safely and quickly transfer them to another character on the same shard/account if they don't have a house on the shard that they own or are friended to. This is often the case on shards where you might have nobody who speaks your language. Or where there are few houses/house spots on a shard to begin with. I should point out though, that my secure character transfer idea would be better off in a thread of it's own.

Cheers ...

You'd have to ask the same question about the character creation screen. Just like the "pick your starting city" debate, if you're given an option to do something at character creation that is most obviously NOT working, then it needs to be fixed. Otherwise, why be given the option at all?

I know I was rather disappointed to find the nice muted wizardly blue that I selected for my robe and hat on a character I made on another shard turned into a nasty pukish looking yellow.

If the functionality is there, it should work. If it's not intended to work, then it needs to be removed. It's not a very good impression for the very first thing a new player does in the game to not work at all.

Making a Samurai with the Template:

Note: The pants color I chose was under the "drab" clothing that is given for choosing the Samurai template.
The reason I did not get a colored shirt was because the Hakama shirt you automatically start with occupies the same slot.

Making a Samurai with the Advanced Option:

Note: I not only got the clothing colors I wanted, but also I got an extra 10 skill points to start with... Slightly better way to create that next character you've been thinking about.

So checking with a male character on the Advanced template:

You get both...

Hmm ... I'd forgotten about that step. KR doesn't have those options of shirt/pant colors (unless I'm missing something) ... you end up with defaults.

I still find it extremely hard to believe that one is so pressed for time that it is too onerous a step to just walk half a screen to a tailer and drop a couple of those starting gold for a dying tub and dyes, but I guess I have to admit it does represent an option that did exist once.

If you change your hair color via the NPC hairdresser or bottle of special dyes from the peerless, and then later want to go back to your original color, you do not get the same choices as the "starting" hues on the character creation screen, as far as I can tell (it appears you get the same color choices that are available in the NPC vendor customization). At some point I should probably confirm my theory with RGB values, but since at a glance it looks different when I pull up the menu in game, that is why I have never changed Skylark's hair color...afraid I can't get the same shade of auburn if I want to go back. Vanity ftw!
