New Account question

Friend came back to UO after a long hiatus and I'm stumped over what the issue he is experiencing is caused by.

He begins on siege by mining. He gets to about 70 and still only finds iron. At 80, still only iron. At 90, still only iron.

Did they do away with colored ore on siege? I don't have an answer for him.

My first thought is that it may be one of the new account restrictions they put in a while back... Not sure if those are allowed on Siege or not though.

* Cannot use Soulstones or fragment soulstones
* Cannot use Pet summoning balls
* Cannot use Bracelets of Binding
* Cannot use the Bag of Sending
* Cannot do any repeatable quests – even if they are normally repeatable
* Cannot acquire BOD’s

That does seem like it is the reason. It should clear up once he is off of the trial period.

I'm not sure - but there may be a way to bypass it - rather than start a trial account... start a new account where you pay from day one... though I doubt he wants to start over at this point...

Yeah who knows. It seemed like a long shot to get him going anyway. Oh well. It was worth a shot. I figured it'd be fun to play with an old friend but I was kind of relying on the free trial to spark the old flame for him.

Heck man they had to find SOME way to stop the scripters from using the 14 day free trial and strip mining resources and BOD's. Much better to punish those starting out for 2 weeks than it is for them to ACTUALLY stop the illegal programs from working with UO.

well if your friend wouldnt mind starting over, and getting a free month of play. Im sure i have a left over New account code from an old upgrade id be happy to give you. That would give him a unrestricted free first month, itd be a new account but with twice the time to lure him back into our world Let me know by PM and ill send ya the code. least I can do to help boost UO population.

I would imagine that probably there is a way to turn the trial acount into a regular account and thus enjoy the full benefits of having a regular account.

If he started with a trial account, then yes even if he put a CC on it right now it would not get full account access until the day the free trial is over.

The only other way is to start fresh with a paid account and forget the whole free trial.

this was put in place to cut down on the free trial accounts used for scripting resources. Now if someone wants to script resources with a trial acct. all they can get is regular iron and regular wood.

It is sad and frustrating to newbies and returning players starting fresh again with a whole new account, but it is something that the devs thought would help combat the cheating and make honest players a little more profitable in the game.

I bet if EA properly trained their CS reps to actually know what UO is it could be as simple as calling them, start paying for the account and have the trial restrictions removed. They might be able to do this, however I wouldn't expect it to be easy for them to do.

It's kind of silly. There should be a big huge gump when you login on a trial account explaining all the draw backs of the trial account.

Does the free trial include an "up to date" version to play on?
allll the way to High Seas Booster? 7 slots?

90 mining... on siege? ... okay ... pretty near the end of two weeks?
"maxed" any other skills?

All in all ... "lacking" ANY statement on the Trial download page, re: what it contains(version) OR what it's limitations maybe ...

If you make a trial account, and then just pay for it in the trial, it should put you up to a full account; however, I have had one or two instances where it did not, for whatever reason.

Well, I can see it being a bit annoying on siege.. Especially during this time when many people are still on break. Since siege only has 1 char I think, I'd be a little annoyed too.

But, iron is always good, and I'm sure there a few other skills he could build up.

agreed, not to mention well known(siege one slot) ...
however ... are you offering that : Free trial IS fully enabled (after two weeks) to Play a Full current version of UO ... up to and including High Seas?

Right now, he's more hesitant than ever to return. I don't think paying for a game that he didn't enjoy for 2 weeks is likely fayled.

Siege and Muegen are 1 slot for all accounts, whether trial or full.

Those that played before for a period liked the game. Returning they know how addictive UO can be. Not totally the game alone but if funds and free time is in enough supply to really enjoy UO.

And scratching head like others on other skills to train. Not like getting that many rare ore deeds if all that iron not being burned smithing. The garg lands only differ for a miner if skills high enough to mine CBR.
