Nerve Strike Direct Damage

If I remember correctly, I've had NS on a pet before but it did not kill Shadow Elemental or Gregorio while training, this time it is....
Is it broke, or am I remembering incorrectly?

Edit: it is making my training routine cuckoo!
Any recommendations?

Yea, but I am trying to come up with something a little more automated...
Something high HP, and low enough damage...
Research continues, what else can we use?

I am gonna go with searing wounds.

I know goo was able to hurt shadow eles.

It is the searing wounds. Goo does nothing to the eles. There's one other ability that few use that damages them also. Repel?

NS is the direct damage, I am still assuming it is that

I took a built Ki rin with AI/Nervestrike/Chiv earlier to check. It did not damage the shadow ele.
Prob find old threads about this with a search.
It's how searing wounds affects healing.
