Need advice on making money

So I just reactivated after being gone for several months and came back to a tragedy - in a fit of stupidity, I must of left all my stuff sitting in my house (I thought I had left them on my chars) and lost everything - all my arties (orny/magi hat/staff magi/aof/leggings/totem/etc), crimson x2, over 200 mil in checks, full set of unused dyes, all my (6) full soulstones, 20ish SS frag token, 10x barbed kits, and the list goes on and on.

I went from having everything I needed to be broke (under 2 mil now). I've been talking with people, and it seems like there isn't much worth selling right now. I always used to make my money with the money I already had (buy/resell), but I don't have that now and it seems like lots of stuff isn't profitable anymore. Is there anything out there doing particularily well right now? I have access to every mule available, most characters, etc etc.

Thanks for any help

Depending on the shard you play on artifacts are still a viable way of making money.

First off - to the Original Poster - that totally sucks! I'm really sorry to hear that! And awesome for you that you are still up for the task of starting over! I find that inspiring

And to CassieDarkSong - I have also been wondering the best way to make some money from nothing, and I have tried mining ore and smelting it into ingots - but I can never find any NPC's that will buy them? Do the blacksmith NPC's buy ingots up to a certain amount each day and then refuse to buy more? Like maybe they bought their limit from a previous player in the day and by the time I got to them they weren't interested? I love mining, I find it relaxing, so it's always appealed to me as a way to make some gold. But I gave up after not being able to sell my ingots. Maybe you can only sell them on a vendor? Any info would be awesome!
PS - I play mostly on Napa/Atlantic and have plenty of gold on those shards, but I have chars on some other shards that are totally broke.

Most people work smithing up as well and make plate armor and heater shields (at least on the high end) then sell those to npc's. That was nerfed I believe, I have no idea if it is still viable. I suggest standing at Luna and selling once you have a nice round few thousand of iron. Should not take too long.

Iron ingots will only be bought by Blacksmith/Armor and Tinker NPCs. The rest will ignore them. They will buy them for 5-6gp per.

However, if you store them up to 1-5k and then advertise on Stratics or in game "Selling 5k ingots--40k OBO" and you'll do well. If you get colored ingots even better with the randomizaation of resources.

Funny you say that, I'm actually debating whether to keep my account going after this month. It took me 4 years to get to where I was, now I'm back down to nearly nothing. Not sure if I really wanna re-work for everything I already had. I just want to hit myself in the face repeatedly because EVERY time I closed my account, I loaded up my chars and then closed the account because I knew my house would fall.
More than anything, I'm just upset that I lost my soulstones because my characters are all messed up now and I have no way of fixing them short of dropping skills and retraining them.

I know what you mean about losing SS's, that totally bytes. But losing all of it really just sucks. I'd like to help you out if I can!

Bad enough the skills you lost but soulstones are expensive.Frags are pretty cheap and plentifull tho post the shard your on someone might have a few they are willing to donate. Also post on the shard there is a chance someone has yours as a decoration or even a friend or neighber may have picked up when your house fell so check your old neighborhood.

At least thanks to the Legacy Tokens (where you can pick a full soulstone as one of the choices) you can get full SS's for as low as 5 million. Much better than the 20 mill they were for a while.

[/ QUOTE ]Try checking vendors for your soulstones, especially in luna.

A couple of weeks before the recent rare Event on ATL I decided I would try to build up some gold on that shard to be able to buy a few things. Starting from about 1.5 million I earned selling my stiffies and other gifts my chars had I was able to build up a bank roll of over 50 million gold for the auction in about two weeks. The rules of the real world hold true in UO, buy low and sell high. Search way out of the way vendors, they are often priced low ans then you can sell in luna for a profit. Find out what is not currently for sale on the shard and find a way to supply it. I sold reward Items from the Dark Knight. I also paid 100k a week for a vendor at the Gen Project vendor house; it was worth it the traffic there is amazing. Don't panic, it was two days before I made a sale, then things started flying off the vendor.
