Other template possibilities:
120 weapon (including archery)
120 parry (if weapon=archery, this skill=resist or anatomy)
120 bushido
120 spirit speak
105 necromancy
115-120 tactics (depending on cap)
Advantages: More use out of necromancy, more use from different forms, can still spam wither in thicker spawns. Less item dependant than sampire.
Disadvantage: Can't ride horse in non-vampire form. It may not look that bad, but believe me, it's a HUGE disadvantage. Can't heal other people.
Necro-mage:
120 magery, meditation, necromancy, spirit speak, eval int, resist.
Advantage: Very hard to kill, has a lot of offensive potential.
Disadvantage: Can't really solo a lot of high end enemies.
I haven't seen the necro mage really used well outside of spawning.
Necro/weaving mage.
110 magery, 120 EI, 100 necro, 100 spirit speak, 90 meditation, 100 resist, 100 spell weaving.
Advantage: Can spam word of death in wraith form. With high focus, essense of wind is better than wither.
Disadvantage: Less damage from necro spells, less leeches from necromancy forms, lower resist. Sometimes hard to find a focus group.
Personally, I run with a sampire almost exactly like what GFY described. I can't remember the last time I used chivalry to heal myself. Between pots, confidence and most importantly leeches, I get by OK.
I also used to run in the first template I mentioned, but the no-horse thing really got on my nerves. If the bad guys (my nemisis was Putrifier) get in a couple of lucky hits in a row, then 9 times out of 10 it's curtains. But overall, it's a great place to start on the necro-warrior path. It can also solo at least half of the peerless, even though it can't collect the keys to some of them (I mentioned my Putrifier problem, but it also can't kill a paragon or named changeling to save it's life... aka Irk or Travesty)
I also had a necro-weaver-mage on the account that I've cancelled. For me that was just too many spell choices to shift through every time I wanted something dead.
There's also a template that has necromancy, bushido and ninjitsu that I've heard works well, but I can't remember the details.
