Naming tamed creatures

I think that once you've tamed a creature and you call it a name, you should not be able to then rename it a second time. After all, who renames their cat/dog?
For a start, it wouldn't respond if you did rename it.

I think then people would take more care and put more thought into their creature's names.

I don't know. Heck, there are even name change tokens for characters.

Let the characters name their pets whatever. :)

And I'm not suggesting we should have name change tokens for pets. I think the system we have now is just fine.

I think we have more pressing matters to attend to, and having a system that keeps people like me from misspelling pet names is a must. Otherwise my beetle would not be called "Blue Shifter" but instead "Blue ****er"

I don't know .... I've renamed pets. You get a pet believing it's male find out later it's not.. rename pet.

Get a pet name it one thing find that behavior wise that just don't fit name it something else.....

Or I had a gotten 2 cats ...... kids named the Obi Wan Kanobi and Darth Maul... didn't take long for Obi to become "Obes" and Darth to become "Darathy"... many folk "cutsie" their pets names..... just like nicknaming kids or friends.

Obviously this is just another abuse by those slinking, stealthy tamers. Renaming pets so we can't keep track of their abusive activities. Despicable.

I like the idea of a pet name change token/deed.

Also, I could have told you ages ago that your dragon was a female.

Come to think of it, would be nice on some animals if it mentioned if it was male/female.

My pets all have multiple names. For example, my cat Cordelia is also "Boo Boo", "Pumpkin" and "Stop Eating My Hair, Stupid Cat!".

I don't see why renaming pets could possibly be an issue.

Actually you can re-name cats and dogs. We found a little dog dumped in the woods some years ago. Vet said he was about 6 months old. We had no idea what name he'd had for those 6 months, so we named him. He learned the new name and responded to it for the next 13 years.

Pet naming is not 'broke', it doesn't need fixing. How about we let the team worry about the stuff that is broke, and the new stuff they want to add?

Quite simply...no. I tame a lot of critters for sale. I name them their tame date so I know when they will bond so I can start working them (gdrags excepted, as they can be trained immediately). After they are trained, I rename them their Pet Calc score (ie. a greater fourpointzero) for sales. Helps move them faster. This would make the system much tougher when I have 6 "a greater dragon" in my stables...hmm, which one was I working???

I have over the years found many pets with illegal names and some that were down right lurid in name that the filter didnt catch... Some not tamed others sitting at banks..... if they took this away... to the once named cant be changed state some nut with an axe to grind would find a way to riddle the game with said animals .... Petra is right this is NOT something the Dev need to look into....

Well, you can rename it upon taming ofcourse, say if someone tamed a pet, named it something bad then released it, my proposal would still allow you to name the pet on taming it again.

Oh I just had such a laugh imagining the blank stares I would get if I started calling my cats by different names!

What a cool idea :)
I just think that, you should only be able to reneame pet when you make the bond.

Gold sink maybe... but stupid. easy to replace a tamed animal and who cares what you name it. I leave my tamed animals there rightful game name. a horse. a nightmare. a dragon ...

If you are wanting to make a change to taming and animals, may I suggest allowing them to be pet balled into places like Doom and Blackthorns, or fix their pathetic AI. They can only walk to you in a straight line, and get caught on EVERYTHING

Not easy to replace tames if your as selective as the tamers I've known. Who cares what you name it? Tamers, Again most the tamers I've ever met.

Exactly! I didn't want to keep the name my dragon had after I purchased him from the hatchery.

I wish the names could have spaces after you gave them a one word name.

And try raising a bunch of chicken lizards, You can feed them exactly 24 hrs after the last feeding. I would change the names daily so I would know what time I could feed them.

Sorry gotta laugh at this, there are WAY more pressing metter with pets than the ability to rename them :-( Interesting idea but ?????

Actually you can now call a pet a name with a space in, just write in in notepad and copy paste

I have to agree with Petra. Any animal can logically learn a new name through repetition. They don't learn one name and go "Oh hey, that's me, I won't answer to anything else ever again." They don't even really recognize it as a name. They recognize more the sound/tone of voice/body language associated with it.

One of my dogs came from a rescue. In his original home, he had one name. In the rescue, they changed it to Aussie (as the previous owners refused to give the actual name), then when he went to a foster home, it was changed to Audi. When we got him (about a decade ago), it changed again to Talis. To this day he will respond to any of those names (and several nicknames).

They could fix some of the awful pet names through a decent filter. But don't ask for a fix for something that isn't broken.

As you say Mervyn!

Also you get better points for re-taming someone else's released pets because a pet tamed/numerous times/released/retamed increases difficulty to tame the animal.

If your tamer who is trying to gain skills, for example, tames a white wolf and re-names it "A" and I re-tame it and rename it by adding my J to make "AJ" the new name, then someone else comes along and retames it the third time, names it "AJKor" then re-leases it, and another retames it .. depending on your immediate skill level, you may not be able to tame the most difficult multiple-tamed animal because your skill isn't high enough, and that results in getting a message saying "that animals has had too many owners for you to tame".

Some tamers erase everyone else's initials on the retamed pet and put only their own initial. As a result, the next guy doesn't know he has already tamed that animal before and thus GAINS NO SKILL POINTS for RETAMING RELEASES. You get the message: * "That wasn't even challenging" and gain nothing. *(check your journal when taming renamed animals)
