Those are all in violation on Atlantic and have all recieved multiple reports with no action from atl players (many many players have sent pages...none were answered). Seems some names are recieving unfair treatment while players such as Poo and the Sexual Chocolate go punished. One ruleset for all no?

or perhaps certain guilds on Atl recieve preferential treatment?

Im having an awesomely crap day at work, and whilst these did illicit a chuckle (Poo is a funny word) I agree with you re naming policies. The fact theres no real filter is something EA could work on.

Aye, a stink properly raised due to him getting a mark on his account. My point to this is simply that the line was crossed, and one person has already lost thier account due to naming issues which fell into the above category. When presented to EA their marks remained. (Jeremy was contacted...issue wasnt resolved...player lost account due to another strike.)

My problem is simply whats good for the goose is good for the gander. By drawing the line you are inferring that discrimination is OK. Thats my only issue in this. Good players have taken a hike because of this current doublestandard. Not purposefully, but because what was ok 10 years ago will get you banned today.

A naming policy should not leave any grey area, and should be concrete. To violate one without violating the other IS discriminatory...as it shows two variations to the same rule. (IE: if one poo goes...all poo must go. if not its discrimination...simple)

hmm...interesting. My roomate was the one who reicieved marks for Hu Flung Pu and Sexual Choclate. Seems there really is a doublestandard. (He fought like hell, went through Jeremy, and even EA...no change...marks remained)

it makes me sick too...hence the reason behind choosing it. what doesnt kill us only makes us stronger...

this isnt about banning btw...its about fair moderation of the ruleset in game. my solution is make the game adult only again, and remove all name violations from the game. (clean slate like they did with the morderers joining factions)

Peon isn't necessarily a bad word. It's a noun, not a verb. When I have heard it used, it has been in reference to what some would call low-level laborers. It could be used as an insult, I suppose, but I would think the character was a miner, hide hauler or something along those lines, not a pervert.

My point is the doublestandard existing today...besides I only took a look at who was in front of me while @ yew gate....going to UO.com would open up an even larger can of worms) Yes, peon is indeed a degrading name, referring to one lesser than... again also defamatory...and discriminant.

Most defintely more offensive than sexual chocolate. (first thing I think of when i see that name is valentines day candy..def nothing offensive.)

As for inappropriate names: what about the people who have played this game since day one, when it was rated M for mature.

Back then we could name a character anything we wanted. Should a 10 year old character have to change his name for the new rules, or should they be grandfathered in?

Because of the new rules, I had to rename my Tailor/Smith, his name was "Asian Children". I know this name could be offensive to some but it's not to me. Yet as also posted here, we talk about double standards. In life we don't want to know about the abuse some countries place on their people, we just want their products and ignore the rest like it doesn't exist. We basically complain about child labor as we walk down the street in our Nike's.

i never got my name back.

it was deemed offensive after 9 years and stripped from all my guys.
EA was nice enough to go through and change all the names for me for free, so that saved me having to delete them all.

the whole thing kinda ticked me off.
but not as much as when i run into other people with the name Poo or worse running around all over.

i dont find it offensive.
i am just angered that i got zeroed in on while lot and lots of other people never did.

EA thrives on these posts because it takes the light off of their inability to fix bugs or other important issues in a reasonable time.

They should have never changed the M rating for this game, but because they did, we have to deal with posts like this.

What is more important:
Fixing scripters or foul names?
PvP balance or foul names?
PvM balance or foul names?

Is this seriously something new? I mean, during the early days of the Vanguards when they were getting stuck in the ground I paged to get them released. If I was paging in Trammel, they were normally quickly released. If I was paging in Felucca, all I got was crap responses and the Vanguards stayed in the grounds. Chances are your friend was red so the GMs reacted more strongly towards him than they do blues. Its a double standard, but it exists for a reason. Most people automatically assume reds got to be red by killing innocent miners or something, and the developers seem to think so as well.

Yes. I can totally see how marketing this game doesn't beat out being able to name your characters anything you want. They took the M rating off so that they could sell the game at major retail outlets that weren't selling any M rated games. Games with M ratings are normally only sold in actual gaming stores, and I don't think they wanted to deal with limiting their market.

As far as I can tell UO wasn't built to handle such things automatically .. meaning while most modern MMOs can easily handle anything that doesn't exactly cater to their terms/agreements UO would need more effort to have that part built/included. It's completely understandable why those names may go unpunished, this is definitely the only game I would never, and I mean never let my kids even look at never mind play. Let's face it, while UO is a game and can be quite childish at times I really don't think that any child should come into contact with it ever. With that being said, a character running around with Poo as their name won't have a dire impact on a child as what most people in this game say or talk about, that's the real issue you need to concern yourself with. If you left a child alone with this game, I would call you a bad parent but in any event trust me, the last thing you should be concerned about is what the character is named, more on to what the character is saying.

Beerman72, those names ain't nothin. Stupid? Yes! Childish and immature? Oh yeah. Looks to me like a 14 year old boy created those.

I had to go around Hell's half acre to actually get something done about a name that was REALLY offensive. I won't post it, don't run a foul of Stratics' ROC. BUT I will give you some clues: three words, it was a phrase discribing an action, and I don't think they were refering to a lollipop!

IMHO that name is 20x worse than what you listed.

Before you page on a name ask yourself some questions to determine how offensive it really is.

1) Was your inital "gut" reaction "Gross!" or disgusting or something like that?

2) would it be considered racist, discrimintory etc in normal conversation?

3) Would you be embarassed to repeat it in public, I.E. at work?

4) Is it sexually graphic????

If you can awnser yes to ALL of those then page on their smelly hides.

Otherwise don't.

I've seen some names that could be consider offensive by some I suppose, but as for me I just found them stupid.

Two come to mind from Legends about ummmm 3-4 years ago. Some *COUGH* genius name their chars Tampax and Kotex. Okay as a woman those don't particularly offend me BUT do I need a daily friggin reminder
of my "monthly"....I THINK NOT! Did me and my friends (who are also women in RL) page? Hell no! We had fun with them! To Tampax, "So which are you lite,regular, Super, or Super Plus?" To Kotex: "Are you the pad with wings or the extra absorbent layer? Are you the ultra thins or the overnight?"

Trust me three days of me and my girlfriends nonsense, the dude got himself some name change tokens! Okay, okay so that COULD be considered harassment, BUT if you name your chars Kotex and Tampax you're almost begging for it!

As far as it goes there is no rule enforcement anymore in UO. There are no GMs just GM Bot 3000. As for the Dev Team...pffft IMHO I think UO is just a paycheck.

I agree. Once you let one slide while punishing another you are opening the door to more and more to slide because of who they know or who they are.

Also, UO needs an rp server. One where all names must be rp type names (no PiMpStIcK the PlAyA or Britney Spears) and dev support player towns and rp functions. Never happen but it would rock if it did.
