My UO Story --- Part 1 this Sunday, November 2 at 4PM EST

I am going to be doing a history series of my time playing UO. The plan is to break it up into 3 parts.

1999-2000 - Starting out to the launch of Factions
2000-2002 - Factions and The Shadowlords
2002-2008 - Champion Spawns and HOT Guild

Anyone who started after Trammel might be very interested in the first part. I have been going over things for a few weeks and while UO looks the same almost nothing is as it was 15 years ago. Did you know at one point you could instantly ressurect at the mere cost of 10% of your skills? People actually used this (including myself).

I will be live streaming this Sunday, November 2 starting at 4pm EST. Topics will include:

- My utterly improbable setup to play UO
- The one and only time my account was hacked
- Lots of first time newbie stories that could only happen in the old days
- The first guild I joined
- The launch of Trammel

Did you know at one point you could instantly ressurect at the mere cost of 10% of your skills? People actually used this (including myself).

Skill gains were so slow that I never found it worthwhile to res on the spot, even for a newly created character, and it was probable that whatever killed you might still be there anyway. Skill loss was officially stated as 10%, but my experience was less when I had a forced insta-res. After dying, I attempted to choose to stay a ghost, but somehow I got ressed on the spot and found my 5x GM mage down to 92.4s (back when Eval took weeks of solid macroing to reach GM). The same thing had previously happened to a friend on his 7x GM mage, except that he lagged out and had to log back in. He had spent months on that character and quit soon after.

I got in touch with a Dev, thinking it was because of his test client that had been available for download. He couldn't reproduce what happened, telling me his own version of "Sorry, I cannot help thee." So, it was back to retraining.
