so after trying out the pirate ship quests i have came to these conclusions..
first the cannons load way too slow..

second you cant aim the cannon, you select fire and the ai ship moves out of the way too often..

third your ship moves much too slow when it gets damaged.. if you get to this part you cant do anything but run away.

the ai ship moves around too much.. half the time i cant even get along side of it.. plus its blasting me the whole time, it never misses since all the cannons fire at the same time..

fourth, bugs bugs bugs bugs.. too many times i waste 10 or 12 cannon shots to find out the ship cant be damaged.. also repair bugs, i repaired my ship but it still wont move at full speed. this one sucks cause i am forced to cancel the quest and START OVER.. (it takes like 10 mintues to sail from the docs to the pirates, then to kill the pirates and have to start over really sucks)

i have never had to page a gm so many times before EVER.. almost every day my ship has some issue and i cant do anything.

yesterday it said i didnt have access when i tried to click on the rope, the day before that it vanished compeley.

is this how this game is going?

no its just right now im sitting for a gm to tell me he cant help me cause my ship is in "pristine" condition but its showing heavily damaged..
this means i cant attack anything cause they wont get damaged and pirates dont shoot back cause the ai is stuck. i can put 100 cannon balls into a ship and never damaged it.

im in a pirate quest and ive been at it for about an hour.. ive killed off all the crew on a ship and i cant capture the pirate to a bug.

Oh, heh. Those are well known bugs. I know people have figured a way to fix the "pristine" issue. Works for most. Look around the boards I'm positive you can find the work-around for it. Not a hard one I remember. Not sure about the pirate capture bug, I stopped reading the threads on them...

Im am pretty sure if you are running these "missions" solo your doing it wrong. I just got high seas like yesterday but I have been doing alot of reading. Seems to me they set up the cannon fire mechanism to be used by a player each. Meaning One player per cannon. That way your not missing nearly as many shots and they can all be fired at least near the same time.

High Seas has been nothing but wall-to-wall garbage and bugs. Just don't bother. Even if you win it's not like the loot is worth anything. All the apologists can ever do is cry that everyone should be doing them in big merry groups, even though that addresses none of anyones concerns.

it would be a total waste of time to team up on these missions..

I take down ships, mostly player ones, but I'll sink a merch ship if i come across it (can't say no to free valorite)

I agree they move too much, the NPC ships flip around like the captain is on crack or something, it would honestly be nice if the ships had to make actual turns and not just flip 90 degrees out of your way while firing.

Best tactic i've had, since i'm pretty much always running solo, (sometimes i have gunners though) is to run to the nose cannon, open the cannon menu next to me, get last target on the ships wheel, then use my "lastobject" macro to take control of the ship while standing at the nose cannon (even though the wheel is slightly offscreen). I'll try to swing to the rear of the enemy ship, and follow them directly 1-2 units away, drifting slowly to follow. you can easily click fire while moving and if it flips 90 degrees while you fire (it generally wont while firing from the rear of the ship, i'm unsure why, i think it may be due to being so close, and being at the rear you can't be hit by their cannons as well) you can speed up quickly and the shot should still hit (you should be dead center of their ship)

I've taken down quite a few merchant ships this way solo, without taking any damage, makes a nice side-profit to the loot i get from the player ships.

Hi there fellow sailors. To the gent with the broken boat .. Pristine but showing heavy dmg. When I encounter this issue I sail over server boundaries and 90% of the time the ship fixes. Sometimes it will take a couple boundaries. Slow going but almost easier than unloading and drydocking to fix it.

Cannons are slow to load as a solo thing, I tend to only solo Merchant ships. If you don't fire on them they don't fire on you and you can leisurely sink them with 0 dmg. Two good players vs a Pirate ship is all you need to do it effeciently and generally not take alotta damage. There do seem to be super ships out there that will smack ya good no matter what. I am testing a theory on the forever fire of the Pirate ships and so far seems to be holding up... Fire a few extra shots once you scuttle them , seems to cut the ship dmg and makes the pirate alot easier to kill.

Also saw mention of it not being worthwhile to take a group to sea, I happen to love doing that , party up and everyone gets Orc ship parts and my personal fav (not) Flaming Balls! Not to mention it is good fun to get out there and shoot the breeze while sailing around.

Ammo issues, if you are running Pirates & Merchants try outfitting a ship with heavy cannons for Pirates and Light Cannons for Merchants. That way you can build ammo for one while doing the other. Matches, ramrods and swabs build up from looting so after the first round of pirates or merchants you never have to make those again. I am to the point that I mostly have to make is fuses and that is not a big deal. (once in a while I do bulk up and make 200 ammo.)

Speeding up the Pirating, my biggest gripe was the mass sailing back n forth to the Sea Market, however I learned a few months back that like fishing quests you only have to be on the same subserver to turn your Pirate in. (edit: you have to have a ship at the Sea Market to recall to)

The Ship rune bug is a pain in the tail, I understand there is a fix for that .. drydocking and redeploying. My ships are loaded and I am notoriously lazy so I just mark UOCart when I leave the boat for an extended period of time.

I happen to love this freakin expansion warts and all.

I just know this, there is no cannon on the aft of the pirate ships(duh). Once you find a pirate ship get it off your radar and try to manuver in behind it (your bow to Its strern) with out it attacking you. once you are behind it, get within cannon range and shoot it with the bow cannon, use cannon balls not grapeshot. I have my dragon attack the orcs. it will protect you from the orc's and the pirate's arrows while you shoot the cannon. It will take 10-11 cannon balls to damage the ship enough for you to board the pirate ship. use the dragon to kill any orcs left. Then attack the pirate. Use an Orc ship for your pirate adventures as it causes and more damage than a gargoyle ship. Good hunting.

If you have people with you, you could try having them box the ship in with rowboats before attacking. Maybe.

so everyone in the party gets the same quest loot? ithought it was split..

dont get me wrong i do enjoy the pirate quests, its kinda fun once you figure out how to work around the bugs.

Yes everyone in party gets loot, it is different for all , some get ship parts, some get special ammo and the gold is split.
