My Samurai finally reached 100 Minax Artifacts only to be disappointed

My samurai finally reached the 100 mark of Minax artifacts. I was with great glee and excitement I ran up to collect my reward only to find disappointment.

Why on earth is the Kamishimo not available and instead we have a Kimono. Finally with the introduction of the blackthorn artifacts I was under the illusion I would finally be able to sport the true samurai look. Boy do I feel stupid! (No not really)

Peasants where Kimonos. Samurai warriors class were the kamishimo! What gives!?

Your telling me after gaining 100 artifacts I’m nothing but a peasant!? (Don’t answer that!)

There is very little noticeable difference between the Kamishimo and Kimono in the classic client however in the EC client there is a huge difference.

Why the hell make the Kimono available and not the Kamishimo? Please tell me this is a huge error on the part of the devs only to go unnoticed until now.

Also How many players have actually picked a Kimono? Someone come forward and tell me how much you love the Kimono...

Sure the Kamishimo or the Kimono may not be the most sought after picks but surely the Kamishmo warrants selection over the lowly Kimono.

Maybe the majority of the UO community could care less…

All I can say is what a bummer!

On the upside the epaulette is awesome. That would have been my second choice.

One other gripe I have is the durability of the items.

Why on earth would I spend 100 points on the Crimsom/tangle equivalents items when I can turn in 100 artifacts, get an epaullete, turn around sell for 100M and buy 2 Crimsons or 5 Tangles which will last forever. This makes no sense other than I want to sport new duds which I will have to replace. It’s really a lot of work to go through to get items which have durability attached to them. Not a fan of this when there are counterparts that are cheaper and last forever..

While the introduction of artifacts is awesome it has some serious flaws in it. Some of those items listed for 75 points I wouldn’t pay 5 artifacts for.

Huge grind only to be disappointed.

Will I live? Yes. But disappointed nonetheless.

Please add the Kamishimo to the list of robe choices so samurai can sport their true look as they roam the lands of sosaria.

Would have been wiser to check the rewards before going into grind mode, just saying...

I did check the rewards list prior to starting the worst grind of all time.

My mistake and my naivete lies in the fact that I mistook the Kimono for the kamishimo. Only when I went to double check did the Kamishimo did the horror, shock and dismay enter into my pysche.

My sampire doesn't currently wear a Kamishimo because it has zero benefits over the traditional Conjurer's Garb. At last I thought this was my big chance.

Never in my wildest dreams would I think the Kimono would be on the list and not the Kamishimo.

I'm not Japanese so I'm not 100% familiar with Japanese culture, names and traditions so I made the mistake of confusing the two.

I do , however, know enough to be conscious of the fact that Samurai don't wear no effin' Kimonos. They sport the Kamishimo!

Give the Samurai the recognition it deserves in this MMO as the samuria template has become a staple in UO history and lore is all I'm saying.

I think I pulled off the Samurai look pretty well with two of the new items.... shoulders and ninja belt.

There is a skirt slot item you can wear that, if memory serves, goes well with the kimono to achieve a similar look. I actually wasn't even aware of the clothing item you cited even existing until now.

May I urge everyone, again, to remember that it wasn't all that long ago that we didn't have any of this stuff and we're way better off now than we were before.

Personally for a Samurai at battle I'd think of armor showing, hence you'd be looking at the new shoulder piece thingie.

My own one real complaint about this system is that it came along after I'd adjusted to the lack of such a system.

The response to it has been really great to see.

Wikipedia is far from a perfect source, but seeing as how my various readings on Samurai has not included fashion, it's the best I got at the moment:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hakama#Kamishimo.2C_kataginu.2C_and_naga-bakama

Hakama traditionally formed part of a complete outfit called a kamishimo (上下 or 裃). Worn by samurai and courtiers during the Edo period, the outfit included a formal kimono, hakama, and a sleeveless jacket with exaggerated shoulders called a kataginu (pictured).
I have a hard time visualizing how stuff will look in UO, always have, but my guess is...Kimono plus hakama will get you the look you want.

Below is the look the Kamishimo i.e. the Samurai look I was hoping for. It's not a huge deal but it would be nice to sport. I really like the look of the sprite even better than the paperdoll. The paperdoll is pretty cool but the sprite is awesome imo. The epaullette is a great addition so that's what I'll have to go with but this would have been my first choice.

In the classic client you can't tell at all but in the EC you get the nice samurai look.

This here is what a real Samurai should look like folks!;)

Before you use your items on the shoulder thingie, before you "cash out," try the Kimono and the Hakama together

Unfortunately I doubt it'll have the shoulders, but might basically do it. Should have those neat folds and **** in front, judging by the screencap of a kimono in the UO Guide.

Thanks for the positive feedback Galen.

I tried the Hakama with Kimono but that's not the look I was hoping for. The Kimono looks like pajamas to me.:p

I think that he is going for the "there is absolutely no armor under this robe, I'm just really good at dodging blows and blocking with my weapon" look.

Same thing I went for when I used to have a samurai and I wore glasses on him.

While the unheard level of customization we now have should be celebrated, I'd argue there's nothing actually wrong with saying "what about this." There was another post saying "what about the kabuto or the regular helm." Granted he may have over-stated his case somewhat! But the principle is the same.

But, for all we know, they are maintaining a list of things to throw in at some point.

It's not incompatible to celebrate what we've been given while at once making suggestions. (Though too many on this board, when making rather forceful suggestions, behave as though they are incompatible.)

In fantasy, the authentic and the fantastical are not necessarily incompatible either. Though we've all seen people who appear to go way too far with one or the other or, somehow, both!

For a minute there I was under the impression UO was a fantasy game... How silly of me.

The only time I open my paperdoll is to equip something which last all of 2 seconds and then I close it.

I don't know about the rest of you guys but 99.5% of the time I'm staring at my sprite and I could care less what items I have equipped look like on my paperdoll.

Regardless, I'm going to wear what's best and what allows my sampire to be a world beater (and I don't care what it looks like).

The rest of you folks commenting want to wear inferior items to sport your look that's your prerogative.

When I'm on my sampire being able to whoop buttox takes precedence over everything else..

Brownie points for mentioning one of my favorites! In "Yojimbo" and his character indeed needed no armor, being really good at dodgling blows and blocking with his weapon.
