My New Hardware

The past few weeks have been somewhat eventful for me. I've been away from my home a fair bit, but also a couple of weeks ago the power supply on my computer fried and took out my mainboard with it. So I had to upgrade my computer. Seeing as I am known for being one of the two fastest runners on my shard (Catskills, and no, I don't cheat ;) ), I thought someone might be interested in what I've upgraded to.

- AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
- Corsair DDR3, 1333MHz 8GB (2x4GB) DIMM, Unbuffered, 9-9-9-24, XMS3
- Gigabyte GA-880GM-D2H Socket AM3 mainboard
- OCZ (OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G) Vertex 2 Extended SATA II 2.5" 60GB Solid State Drive
- OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Power Supply
- Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5 ATI Radeon HD 5750
- Scythe KATANA 3 (SCKTN-3000) 3 Heat Pipes CPU Cooler
So far I've tried overclocking both the video card and my cpu. The attempt to overclock the cpu went badly, but the video card is overclocking like a champ. I kept my old keyboards and mouse, as well as my monitors. The new SSD has Windows on it, my old regular hard drive has everything else. I saved quite a lot of money on those things. I also kept my old case, so all I replaced was essentially the guts of my computer. I was worried about my oem version of Windows 7, but apparently you are allowed three major upgrades before Microsoft starts harassing you about them.

I realize none of this is spectacular, but it is significantly better than what I had, and so far I'd say it runs the enhanced client very sweetly.

It is okay but not the best of the best ;). I would say you got a solid machine for a fair price.

Heh, no, it's nowhere near "the best of the best", but hopefully it will run just about everything that comes out for the next year or two. The overclocking on the video card also seemed to cause some problems, so it would appear that I am unable to overclock at all with this new system, which is a shame. I am however getting significantly better fps in the EC which is a good thing.

imho there is no reason to clock your cpu or gpu, it's not going to lower your isp latency. instead of clocking things, try to disable processes you don't need, the sweet spot is under 50 with Win7. one thing though, again imho you want to prevent 'writes' to the drive as much as possible. without going to much into it here ill give you a link.

Ya, I've already done a lot of that. But thanks for posting that link and I'll run through it and see if I got everything.
