Well well, You guy sare pretty vocal here on the boards and you often try to get people to play on yoru shard... so I thought i'd share my experiences with siege on this board.

You see, about 2 years ago i tried playing siege. I set my space hiding macro and went out to learn musicianship. People seemed friendly, and someone eventually decided they would friend me to thier house. We walked for about 15 minutes and he took me into a nicely decorated 18x18. Once inside, he para'd me, killed me with one FS. Once dead, he started smash talking me (Go back to your trammy shard! *spits on corpse*, etc etc). I took 5 minutes of trash talk and was waiting for a res - nothing. No healers around. I quit siege and never went back.

LAst night, after years, i thought i'd give it a try again - siege, that is. I created a tamer and went out to tame horses. So here is this completely new char (create a new one), with a crook in his hand and newb clothes on, going around taming horses. Found one i liked so i went to moonglow gate so i could head for the stables.

as soon as i appeared, 2 lrc'd characters one-shot killed me with a FS and an arrow. Then they started smash-talking me to death. They then put my 2 pieces of clothing into my dead horse's corpse so it would decay.

There you go, siegers. You wonder why people dont play your shard. I dont mind pvp and the danger of a pk coming along - but both times my char was obviously new... No armor on and only 1k gold to its name. Do you guys have some kind of distorded superiority complex?

I'm still willing to give siege a try, however. I realize there must be some good people in the community.

If someone could help me out, i'd appreciate it. Not asking for a single coin of gold. I just need a bag of instruments (the guys who pk'd me last night took my only instrument) and a boat (need to get the jhelom pens for taming practice).

So basically you have discovered the BEST thing about siege in that you are not safe from being killed anywhere? [censored] talk is only a problem if you care about it. Just get your head down get training and in a couple months you will be able to deal out player justice too those same people because they, as you now have no place to hide, good luck !!

start with my bard my instrument is blessed, second if dieing and being looted makes you angry then this is not the shard for you. The woods are not a safe place

I got some instruments you can have. You can get to Jhelom animal pen via teleporters in the middle of the town. The Most western teleporter takes you to that area you wanted to travel to.

Go naked. And siege bless an instrument. Click self and target the item (instrument) you want blessed.

Try joining Newborn guild [NEW].

Try joining the "NEW" guild on siege. Its a guild to help newbies out while they are in training, and most of the decent players won't dry loot you if they see you are just starting out. Or if you planning on being a pvp'er yourself, join one of the pvp guilds and travel with them for protection

Im proud to be one of those two guys that killed you yesterday night,.,Remember ? WyRm and Calm.,..,.
I had just changed template and needed some pathetic bait to test it.... You should be thankful for being useful for my tests.... And should be happy you ve been purified,.,.
Despicable blues,.,. You have no future in Sosaria ! Chaos is being restored !

By the damn way, we havent trash talked at any moment,.,. You are being ridiculous lieing like that.... We probably only called you a "despicable blue" ,.,. If you cant stand this kind of "trash talking", you should really go play WoW or something like that,.,.

what happened to you happens to every single newcomer to the shard here. It is sort of a test (as [censored] up as that is, to see whether you are siege material)

My first killer/drylooter was a guy called speedy donkey (from way back). In some aspects, it was a good thing, as wrym commented as it showed me that there were really no safe areas and i needed to be aware of my surroundings at all times. Sort of brought a lot of excitement back to the uo that i loved.

As somebody suggested, join the NEW guild. Many pks (such as myself) leave the NEWbies go as there is really no sport in newb killing. That guild is supported by many people and will allow you access to supplies and training materials and will allow you to get a foothold here on the shard. It is not easy to start here as it is a felucca ruleset, but once you do succeed it is worth it.

if you cant contact new and need some help, i will spot you some gold/armour and start up supplies.

I really get confused when people post these posts. I seriously NEVER get attacked unless I'm somewhere I expect to be attacked like swoops or something.

And I don't think I've ever been smack talked here. But then again I don't get killed very often.

Who are these people??

edit:

You can use the moongates to get to jhelom you know.

I dont mind being killed and looted. Thats fine. But i would expect a certain level of decency in pvp - you know... you see a player with newb clothes on and have the need to kill him?

You darkness guys or whatever you want to pretend to be - if you had any spine you'd attack someone who could defend himself.

You remind me of miner pks on production shards... completely spineless.

Death is part of life on Siege.

After you learn to move around better, and people get to know you a bit... it
won't be nearly so bad. Joining NEW will help some too. It will give you at least
some measure of safety, and give you a chance to meet people you may enjoy
playing with.

On Siege we still have old fashioned PKs... there are honorable PvPrs too. But
we like having PKs here... it adds richness to the game that you won't find
in many other places. We have thieves too! We have it all!

If you are the kind of person who will get upset when you are attacked however...
you may have a hard way to go. For most of us... logging off with armor on
is a good night.

Join NEW... it will help with the adjustment. Once you get used to it here, your
old shard will seem like fat-free vanilla.

Cheers!

*giggles*

Aye some of em do !!
haha

Welcome to Siege anyways.

Do check with NEW guild, there should be a link to NEW forum in the sticky threads above ^^ ^

I used to be able to make instruments as my carpenter but I removed that 45 pts to add to another skill.

If ye need leather armor pieces, I also am legendary tailor. . .barbed horned or a combo whatever ye need I can make, as will any other tailors on this shard. NEW will also have armors for ye to re equip with as well.

Use the moongates, last thing ye need would be to have a pricey siege boat taken from you wait till ye are wealthier or till your chr. can take care more of ye self and a boat, in a fel ruleset.

Dont mind the vampires ...they sometimes are just perma crabby hungry ya know always stuck on a liquid diet of blood, preachin their odd peculiar form of gospel for the glory of ..........meh smack em over their heads with ye lute..won't kill em nor keep ye alive, but they will know ye mean business ! Or up ye skills hell maybe YOU might be the single citizen upon Siege to yet PEACE that damned WyRm into submission to become a sweetheart !! HAHA

Learn to walk the landscape. You will just lose the boat.Learn which teleporter gets you where on Jhelom and learn the way to the healer. You will need it. Train with 1 instrument on you and let them kill you over and over. It doesn't matter. The guys that killed you are idiots anyways. Half their guild is blue and they still pull that "despiceable blues" crap and every second line is "for the glory of the damned" even if it doesn't make any sense in the context.

There are plenty of good characters and guilds on Siege. Seek those out and you will be helped.

Wow...that's horrible. You must be very upset, angry at such cruel people that so unkindly, without reason, viciously slayed you. I can feel your blood boiling from here. You are turning more red as time goes on with your bloody death replaying in your mind minute after minute after minute. You want to train up your character and show those evil murders who is really boss, avenging your death and relishing in the sweet satisfaction of theirs.

In all honesty though, the "quality" of people on Siege, as in matters such as honor and maturity, has declined greatly. BUT, it is still much better than trammy shards and still, weirdly, Siege has the best community. In an MMO, what is the point of playing without the danger from other players, the risk, the challenge, the forced player interaction, etc., that Siege offers. Otherwise, it's a one-player game.

Siege is UO. The rest of the shards are Siege in deeply screwed up alternate universes. Congratulations on finally discovering the true Ultima Online!

Well, I look at it as they did you a favor. As others said, it tested you. Now, wouldn't you prefer to have to make you decision now about staying on Siege or not, knowing full well what you're heading into, instead of having to make it months down the road when you have already spent all that time into training and building up your characters and the blind fold is suddeny removed?

Join NEW if you would like help as in advice and supplies and possibly a greater chance of meeting the various people and guilds of Siege you mix well with. But it's not a protection guild. Don't join it if you expect to be surrounded by a shield till you are done training. Good luck.

Moving to Siege is not something to be taken lightly... I began thinking of trying it out about 2 years ago. I finally got a nudge in this direction by a couple of friends last year. I was bored with prod shards and so were they. Granted, they had played here before, so I did receive a bit of help-but for the most part I was on my own trying to learn where to be and where not to be.

I knew not to spend time at certain moongates, and to run like hell through certain parts of the map-and this was knowledge learned from bits and pieces of info over the years.

As careful as I was, I still ran into trouble. I did get christened by a VmP member within 2 weeks. Made the mistake of trying the Jhelom farms for training. I was killed and escorted to a healer. *shrugs* "He" never talked trash to me, but RP'd his reason for the slaying.

In my eyes, Siege is very different from the prod shards I have played. It really matters if you are able to withstand the new risks you have.

If you do want to try to stick this out, join NEW. Not only will they help you but you will also make friends. I never joined the guild, but some of our members did and it seems to have done them some good.

Or if you don't want to wait you can always take out contracts via this message board on your killers, and pay some kind of bounty but its much more fun doing it yourself.

Think of those deaths as a welcome to the shard, SIEGE style.

obviously you do or else you'd still be playing siege and not on the boards complaining about ur lack of skill. Its ok go tame some pets and get a bola, youll make a kill i promise.

I took my lumps in the beginning, just like everyone here.

I could have turned back years ago to go pretend I was a paladin in Trammel. I could do good deeds like letting lady tamers in front of me in the line to kill monsters, escorting npcs and being polite to people. ZZzzzzz.... Real conflict, real danger, and real villains are much more engaging! I'd rather fight villains who are mean to noobies than yet another lich...

Some advice - If you are new and weak, hide away in the hills, RUN from the moongate, far out where the odds of being found are slimmer. Train out there, and when you have some experience and skill, then you can come back to the trafficked areas and say - ok, you want to kill me, you are going to have to try harder! (You may still not last 10 seconds, depending on your combat experience, but at least you have a chance!)

The thing that makes Siege great in my eyes - it is populated with people who did realise it was tough, on their first or second day, face down in the dirt. They had to make the decision to flee or to get tough or get smart, and those that stayed are the kind of people who have something a bit more to them than the average person. I'd rather play with those kind of people.

Seriously though, if you can't laugh off death this might not be the place for you. Hopefully you can take being pk'ed with a grain of salt, because we love having more quality players here.

Lesson learned: VmP are noob gankers. If you see them, run!

Aye, lesson learnt - And yes i will be playing siege. It doesnt matter to me that my char is killed. I just wanted to provide some feedback on how a new player might feel in siege.

I was just very surprised at the gratification players here get from killing a brand new char. I bet if they could chop off heads they would have chopped off my noobs head and gloated to their friends on how they killed a L33t trammie loaded with arties.

I've not been on siege very long either, my arrival is recent enough that I remember my first death. At 2 hours old my char was killed by Cheapsuit at Moonglow gate.

My char is a crafter with no defence, she's been killed in Umbra yelling for the guards and being ignored.

If I see the guild tag 'VMP' I do my best to make myself scarce because I know they'll take every worthless item I have with me. But I will give them this, the only thing they've told me is 'for the glory'.

Now while I heartily dispute that there is any glory in killing a helpless crafter, that hardly constitutes 'trash talk', or at least it doesn't from my point of view.

While I found my feet and gained my crafting skills I lived and trained in Delucia. Maybe, if you decide to stay, you would find it beneficial to do likewise. I also joined NEW and benefitted from their help and advice.

I've learned several things since I arrived. Like stocking a vendor with invis cast, like marking runes where the gate I'm going to be arriving through won't be too noticeable.

But the one thing no one warned me about, and I really wish they had, is those benighted Dark Wisps!!!!

thats the first problem.. noone wants to wait a couple months to have a chance to kill those kind of people. i dont want to wait a couple months for them to have the chance. and i certainly dont wanna waste a couple months trying to finish 3 chars that i have all in rot. face it unless somthing is done siege is dead. everyone is leaving including you revvo. I rarly play anymore myself. i log into about 3 times a day to get my .1 see that 5 people are in vent and log out. uo and siege need some emergency attention. as anyone who thinks siege is a foulrishing community is obviously blinded by shaks blaze. cause this is like 1/10th maybe 1/20th of the population from a few years ago when i came here and people are still leaving by the guilds.

YUP. Right now I too am in ROT. And I get 0-10 gains a day (10 being 10 .1 gains). It is INCREDIBLY boring and INCREDIBLY long. And I have little reasons to actually go through with it, getting those boring gains day after day. WHY?

Because Siege has 1) so many problems with it, like horribly imbalanced PvP and there are STILL blessings on this "hard" shard and, more importantly 2) THERE IS NO ONE TO BLOODY FIGHT. I don't want to be forced to log in on "high hour" or whatever it is we call it to go fight in Luna where there are actually some people for a little bit. REMEMBER WHEN EVERY HOUR WAS BUSY HOUR?

But no! We must make the noobs suffer like those few of us that didn't do "power hour" or cross the server line, whatever to get their gains. And don't forget! Boring and long= hard!!!! Low population= even harder!!! Let Siege remain what it was borng to be: a trammelized Siege shard with no people!!!!

Five minutes after landing on Siege, I was killed in Luna, while using a public dye tub. It took one hit to put me in ghost form and I got your typical "f'n NOOB" comment in return.

Just think of it as the beginning of your de-trammification!

Not EVERYone on this shard has that same mentality, but there are some that do. There are some very wonderful aspects of our community and the past 18 months here have been the most fun I've ever had in UO.

If ya need some replacement gear, drop me an ICQ! #220 571 153

A little useful advice...

- During your newbie days, leave anything you can't afford to lose, in your bank.

- Siege Bless 1 item that you need ... Perhaps an arcane robe if you're a mage?!

- You can avoid any potential for trash talking and rez killing by leaving the scene immediately to find a rez.

- Even if you are not going to use a weapon skill in your template, pick one initially, because it will raise fast and can help fund your new adventure in the meantime.

- Don't let experiences like the one you describe, stop you from talking to and meeting other players.

Lol, yes. I also remember my first day on siege. I decided to train a thief and went to luna bank, working on my thievery.

A kind player, by the name of Katherine, bought me a pack horse, which I proceeded to fill with various junk I'd picked up off the ground here and there to start training stealing. I took my packy outfront and had gained to ~6.0 before a vmp came along and killed me, then killed my packy, then told me "next time have better loot".

Since then, I make it a point to annoy vmps as much as possible.

But even first day, 2 PK's went red from killing miners in the cave north of Brit. They was 4 demanding ingots before they attacked.

I'm just wondering what exactly you expected?

Getting killed is a fact of life on SP. It happens and it teaches you to take along only what you need.

Why did you simply stand around and let them smack talk you for 5 minutes? If it really bothers you, just leave the situation, get a rez or even better yet ignore it.

Some people expect a little shield over their character when they first come here, and quickly realize that isn't the case and subsequently quit. Grow up.

Of coarse there are good people in the community and some of them actually play bad people. This is where the fun comes in. The exploring and discovery of which are which.. It is exciting and frustrating but if you are tough enough, you will learn who are the real good people and who are the real bad people.

One of your clues if you choose to stay, is how they post on Siege forum. There are those that will argue against other points of view using judgement of behavior, while others will simply choose to get personal and call names and insults.

Stick around. You might learn something and fine it worth your while.

I promise it won't be easy.. But then I was never easy for any of us.

Well don't you have bad luck. I've been killed only 4 times until now by other players 2 times they realised I was new and did not loot or trash talk one of them even gave me a few goodies to fight with. The other time it was at an event and I did it willingly. Jumped out of one of our guild house to actually get killed they looted me that time but I had nothing much of value.

There are bad guys here thats a thing for certain but there is also good guys and trust me just seeing how people need to stick together here to make a living makes it all worth while.

I have a lute of dragon slaying if you want it just PM me what town you hang and I'll make it apear at your feet.
