My character is bugged

Stupid UO!

So I have been lured into actually working fishing for the first time in my UO career. Spending the time to do this boring skill when I haven't really had play time is a big deal

So today I'm sailing around slow forward doing my thing catching many pounds of slimy fish and not gaining. I went to a dungeon and fished up an entire area. Not even a GGS.
(my skill was 95.6)
I check my skill list. Fishing is pointed up and I have 620 of a 720 total skill cap, and I also have skills pointed down.

Hours go by without a gain. Feeling defeated I unload my hold and take my boat to another facet. Fish Fish Fish... nothing.

I go home and put all my skills on soul stones, flush everything I had turned down, and go back out hoping I don't have to actually kill anything (lol)

Now I have gained! .4 so far! Hooray!

So what made the game think that I was at my skill cap at 620? That's not even a new player's skill cap.

I haven't tried putting the skills back on, but wow how much time I wasted today...

I wish I could just bring myself to unattendedly macro... I do understand why people do it.

dungeon fish is not deep water and you can only gain in deep water

Shallow water up to 75 skill.

The dungeon thing was just to try to fish in a different place so I would get a gain.

Now that I have taken off skills I have gained .8, but I should have been gaining the entire time. Perhaps not as fast, but at least .1.

That skill ball thing is amazing to use when gaining fishing.
