Most annoying Bug in Uo

IMO the most annoying bug in the game is the one where longtime players do nothing but rant about bugs. Seriously.

I have been playing Uo over 13 years & have never been more then mildly frustrated by any flawed game mechanic. Sure, I have lost a valuable item or two due to lockdown/floor issues. Big deal. Live & learn. Doesnt make it right. It just is.
Sure I have finally died to a person I had owned for years only to find out he was exploiting a new bug/flawed mechanic. So what. Next time we fought I adjusted. I always had the option to copy if it bothered me that much.

Does this mean that I endorse or enjoy bugs or flawed mechanics? No. It just means that nothing is perfect. The game is still awesome though.

Excuse me for ranting a bit but lately it seems that every post mentions bugs as one of the main reasons for Uo's decline or lack of growth.

I say a gigantic BS to that!

Every game has had bugs in the past & will continue to have bugs in the future. You say Uo has more bugs then other games? Maybe, but who cares. It's not a huge difference. Mostly just comes with being the first & oldest.

I did a long scan of the official bug post on this board & there is basically nothing there that should hinder or bother the regular gamer. Especially not the supposed vets that are always whining here about bugs ruining Uo. So wtf is up with everybody?
How many frikking times can people post about GM response time? Are you kidding me?
The best part is that if you actually take the time to read the GM rants you almost always read where the person ranting mentions the frequency with which he/she pages & its a ridiculous #. What supposed vet player is paging a GM for different topics/issues 10x a month? Hello?

Hell, I would bet that 90% of all GM pages are complete nonsense. Simple lack of game knowledge & misconceptions.

I could not begin to count the amount of times someone I knew casually or a guildmate ranted that they lost an entire suit only to find out later it was on another character or taken by someone with access to their accout or most times simply mistakenly un-insured and looted.
Not to mention the losers that lie & scream bloody loss just to get valuable freebies from generous guildmates/friends.

I play every day of the week and cant remember the last time something affected my gameplay. Maybe I have gotten used to and adjusted to certain things but thats life folks. Part of living in a world.

Thanks in advance for reading what too many people will feel is a most annoying post.

Carry on.

This thread feels like the penrose staircase.

I have to agree that some posts about bugs are futile. But maybe there would be less if the community felt like the devs gave a crap about them or at least about the game.

I hear you. I am most certainly not saying that there arent bugs. And I am also not saying that bugs shouldnt be addressed.

I am simply saying that I dont understand how a vet can claim to be so affected by "bugs" in general that he/she is gonna quit. And unfortunately that is what you can read about here every day.

Does anyone realize how many posts claim that Uo would supposedly once again flourish if only the bugs were fixed? Its insane.

There are 10 billion different & cool things to do in Uo yet people are gonna quit because there is a house design bug or a pet graphic bug lol.

Is it too much to ask that people just simply post a bug without calling it the end of Uo?

People reach a limit w/ the number of failures in something before they replace it, whether cars, pc's, etc - a game is no different, when they hit that magic number, it's gone. Just because we were hoping to have a reduction of bugs, waiting for Years, doesn't negate that 'number'. A bug here and there wouldn't be a problem I'd bet - but not bug after bug, some going on for years - why do you think many still call it a beta?

And some bugs count for greater or lessor than 1, so it's not about just the total of all bugs combined.

Well...

You kinda prove my point in a backhand way.

Nobody replaces a classic car that runs well just because it has a few bugs (noises, backfires, lousy defroster,etc...)

Its a classic and it still runs well so you are glad to put up with a few bugs.

Uo runs well. Its just not perfect.

IMO its very simple. Anyone that says they cant play and enjoy Uo to its fullest every day because of bugs is plain nuts & will NEVER be satisfied.

the one where you lost items when you placed inside a ter mer style dresser was a nasty one. i know my friend had high blood pressure that time he stuck his box of minor and semi - rares in it and came back the next day to find empty.

my personal feelings are the ones that really screw you up or annoy you all the time. like when sailing and you cross a server line, having to reopen your backpack each time....

Or years ago when the game came out and i still played on a modem. whenever i went into combat or a bad situation that was combat related, a slight sound going *tick* was heard just before losing connection. log back on and find myself as a ghost. that was always a blast.

anyways, i digress .... lol

... but what would they complain about if they didn't complain about that?

I've watched these boards and many of the precursors the whole time UO has been alive and it almost never stops.

I especially find it hilarious when someone "leaves" in a huff, complaining all the while about how they can't pvp like they want (i.e. loot someone dry) or that "balance" is off (i.e. annoyed someone can run a character that beats most others) or that the "scripters are ruining everything" (i.e. someone was noticed scripting while you were mining/killing the same spawn over and over for a trinket) or some other final straw that just ruins their days. not to mention the "economists" that seem to think people having more than 5000 gold is just horrible and that they should all be dipped in oil before being burned.

Usually within a few years they've returned. If they don't return, they pop on various boards at some point to announce their opinions about something that happened years ago, or demand a "classic" shard, or bemoan the fate of UO, that obviously they can't survive because all "those" people left.

I've gotten to where if I read anything about those issues in the first paragraph or two of a post I just ignore it. I'm tired of it and it's a huge waste of time that I could reserve for doing things far more interesting.

But it also makes me sad, because if I was a developer reading all this crap and taking it to heart, I'd never, absolutely NEVER know what to do in this game. I've been surprised they've listened to us as much as they have (notice they tend to listen on the lesser important things, not on the major systems.)

But yes, 13 years into this, I have to say I honestly don't know what to say to people. If UO was going to shut down as they loudly like to complain, EA would have done it YEARS ago. EA is in it for profit, do people on this board not understand that they would shutdown UO tomorrow if they weren't making a profit?

Honestly?

I sometimes have to sigh at the stupidity that we have in our world these days and how loud the internet can make it. Echo chambers really are annoying when they are connected to other echo chambers.

Atlast a post I can sign! I have been playing eleven years non stop and I seldom recognice myself or my friens in the negative posts here.

I have lost some pixles due to bugs and some due to my own misstakes. I have called a gm max four times in all theese years and only once been unhappy with the service. Most times I called due to some mess I created myself.

I still enjoy the game very much and have lots of friends, thats the most important to me.

The onlty times I get depressed and fear for the future and lack of new players is when I read theese boards. There are important info and things that inspires here too, I dont want to miss that. But every time it means I will stumble ower a bunch of posts that will not only discourage me, but devs as well as new players.

Atleast once a day I come here when I have some spare minutes before rl calls to see whats up. Almost every time my mood changes to the worse by doing so. Whiser people I know , dont come here but im a hopeless optimist and someone has to pass them the good news and link them to important info :D
Anyhow, thanks for this thread!

Fully agree on this post!!!

I was actually flamed here once for not having enough posts to know what I was talking about for the length of time i had been a member here. The reason my posts are low comes down to a simple reason. I get so tired opening these life draining complaint posts about the topics discussed above. They are so unrealistic and sometimes plain insane. I just stop reading them.

I return here because these seem like the only forums that the devs come and comment on. it is a shame that they too read the non-stop rants. I hope they have a filter for them. I also return here because there are a handful of fun and helpful posts when you weed through the complaints.

During live quests, this place is so helpful. When there is a dreadful bug or warning out, this place is a saviour! There are even some awesome posters that post off and on with great visions for the future instead of complaints about the past over and over. I love the new post on the main page about a tax and bless deeds being able to be bought as a gold sink. Very creative!!!

Whenever there is a discussion about how developers should set priorities, inevitably I see this generic call to fix "bugs" in the game before anything else.

Now, it annoys the hell out of me to hear this generic call to fix "bugs" because it means nothing to me.

There is bugs and bugs and not all bugs deserve priority attention so, calling for the fixing of "bugs" in generic terms, without at least indicating what aspects of the game these "bugs" disrupt so as to allow the reader to judge by themselves whether or not whatever bug is worthy of absolute priority to get fixed. I find it most annoying.

Certainly it is not possible to give out details on duplicating bugs, this is understandable.
But to say that a bug that allows the duping of a given item or set of items in the game deserve immediate attention I think would be understandable so as to allow the reader to differentiate this plea from the request, for example, to ask for a fix of a bug that, say, makes a character unable to sit on a bench in some town.

I mean, without giving out any details, identifying what bugs are wanted to be fixed as a priority could help the reader to decide whether to support or not the plea.

Also, I think it would also help the Developers to make a judgement call on which bugs to give priority for fixing depending on which bugs are seen as most annoying by the player base.

I would imagine that there is a plethora of bugs out there, some major some minor.

Now, if the developers see players' calls for the fixing of "bugs" expressed in generic terms, they might find themselves undecided which bugs might be more worthy of their attention as first since to address them all could not be realistically feasible for a given publish.

Hearing the players' concerns listing the bugs they might want to see fixed ASAP with specific indication of what game aspects they may disrupt (again, without giving out any particular detail of the bug), I think it would be of help to the developers' work.

I have trouble to support a generic request for the fixing of "bugs" without knowing whether these bugs relate to important aspects of the game I play or not.

That's at least how I see it.
