More colored and specific dragons...different breath weapons.

I think its about time the Devs maybe did something with the same ole "dragon". Why not add alignment to them? Metallic and Chromatic colors?
Color - Alignment - Breath Weapon
Gold - Lawful Good - Fire
Silver - Lawful Good - Ice/Cold
Copper - Neutral Good - Energy
Bronze - Lawful Neutral - Fire
Shadow Iron - True Neutral - Fire
Dull Copper - Lawful Chaotic -
Vertite - Lawful Chaotic - Acid
Apagite - True Neutral - Poison
Valorite - Lawful Evil - Chaos

Black - Chaotic Evil - Acid
Red - Lawful Evil - Fire
Yellow - Chaotic Neutral - Energy
Green - Neutral Evil - Poison
Brown - Lawful Evil - Fire
Purple - Chaotic Neutral
White - True Neutral - Cold
Blue - Lawful Chaotic - Cold

Now change the way they behave. Remember when dragons didnt attack on sight? Well bring that back for some of them.

Lawful - Blue (wont attack blues)
Neutral - Grey (will attack as normal)
Evil - Red (Wont attack Reds)

But go a step further. Make it so if you want a gold dragon, you MUST have Glorious Lord to tame and above neutral to have it follow commands. Must also be a blue char. For Black, you must be Dread Lord and stay in the NEGATIVE karma to have it follow commands. And somehow work out the other alignments to work on the karma scale. And all dragons taming would be the same as it is now, can still anger it.

The lore of dragons in terms of metallic, gematic and chromatic is very vast, I think it would be neat to add it to the dragons of UO. Keep all power as it is now, just change color, alignment and breath weapon.

Look at the change in breath weapons like this. A mage needs slayer spellbooks and different spells to damage different creatures. An archer or mele uses slayers and different damage weapons to fight in certain situations. So why not make it so if a tamer wants to be effective have to have different dragons with different damage types? Makes sense right?

Could also make it so Lawful good dragons will not attack positive karma critters unless attacked. Similar to how pets wont attack golems or exodus minions.

Would like to see if anyone can come up with a fine tune to this idea, I think it could add more depth to the dragons of uo.

I kinda like the idea, but simply ripping of D&D won't work. The whole alignement stuff is to complicated for UO. Good and evil (blue and grey) for mobs will work and a few different colors and breath weapons won't be too hard to implement either.

So a simplified version of your idea would work, imho, but it's not very likely to happen.

Can we please focus on the zillion other things busted or neglected in this game first?

Actually this could be fun,

I could herd the "evil" dragons to the "good" dragons and get them to fight to the death, then pick up the spoils of there wars!!!

If it was possible, they could tilor the loot...so an "evil" dragon will drop more "evil" type items, poison stuff...necro jewels and i dunno what an evil weapon would be but drop them[not all the time but a higher proportion] and a good dragon will drop more cureing stuff[regs/pots] chivalry/healing, and "good" weapons?

Drop the alignment stuff and tailor it more virtue/anti-virtue as StupidMiner suggests. What can you come up with? Idea is pretty good and I can't recall ever seeing something like this - even in the days of Ideas Den. Someone is SURE to correct me if I'm wrong on that score! :mf_prop:

So...

Gold = Blue
Silver = Blue
Copper = Blue
Bronze = Grey
Iron = Grey
Green = Red
Black = Red
White = Grey
Red = Grey
Purple = Red
Yellow = Grey

And so on...

And I like the sdded ideas of putting them in specific dungeons, depending on virtue. Heck would make questing neat, Im agine you walk into doom and find a Gold dragon npc offering a quest as he is there to kill the evil.

I also like the idea of different alignment dropping gear towards that alignment.

Breath weapons ranging from...

Fire
Cold/Ice
Lightning/Energy
Poison
Acid
Physical/Earth

As such you would also need to not put so many different ones in the same dungeon levels, to avoid exploiting having them kill eachother.

I'd love to have colored dragons as long as they are done right

Completely correct.

Need to make sure their balance is just as they are now in terms of power. But if a breath weapon is more powerful need to lower something else, like resists.

Also got to thinking, resists for each color would have to be different with one common one being high, like physical. But for a dragon with an ice breath, cold would be higher, energy for others, poision for others, fire for reds ect.

Yes and they can't just "rehue" a Red or Brown Dragon.... It has GOT to be done right so it don't look like Smeg!.... Do NOT just one monochrome color them.... for the love of GODS and UO..... Look at the beautiful Red Dragon..... he is NOT one solid red color...... he's many colors. don't mess that up.

And when I say he's pretty...... I'm looking a the 2D CLIENT! NOT The EC.... that's ugly and PA THET IC.....

I think I would rather see "elemental" classes of dragons.

Red (Classic)-Fire
Ice blue-Cold
Green-Poison (like a WW with magic abilities)
Yellow-Energy
Dirt, black, brown-Physical(no magic but stronger melee attacks?)

I'd like to see Green Dragons and Golden Dragons. I can't really see much reason to go nuts with colored dragons.

Colored dragons make people cry
Exactly what I was thinking.

Since they will need to be done right we`ll never see them,thanks to the vocal minority that is UO.

Devs can`t deny they get most of their info and insight right here. Otherwise the 25 or so peaple that cried the loudest wouldn`t have gotten heard. I`m sure if the actual playerbase was polled you would have gotten much different results.

Assinine I can`t have ma black dragon just cause 20-30 peaple on the interweb didn`t like colors. Even more assinine that this game is changed in one way or the other just by who cries the loudest on some forums that don`t represent the actual playerbase but instead a very very small portion of it.

I`m happier with zero dev interactivity. I like it quiet,just keep the lights on and do what ya need to do. Stop taking your info you get from Uhell as the gospel,its pretty sad.

So while I`d love to see something similar to what the OP has proposed, it`ll never happen. To many closed minds on both sides of the fence. Devs and players.

Make white wyrms viable again for your cold element, allow taming/herding of wyverns for poison, etc. As sentient creatures, dragons should have their own virtues of any, not human.

As for dragons offering quests to humans, I don't see why a dragon would need the aid of a human. Hmm, I suppose that negates the whole idea of tamer/pet relationship..

Because, when dragons go with tamers, Samurai can't hunt them for hides...

This first thing I saw when I read this post was not only have the creation of these new dragons, but allowing the ability to use a taxidermy kit to get the head mounted for each and every type....SICK.

I know it's a D&D thing and I do have a D&D background from my table top gaming days, but I'd love this. I suggested running mini-events when things were quiet on the publish front where the different colored dragons could spawn in remote little used areas of the world. There are tons of places in the Lost Lands which can be used for something like this.

Their presence in the lands could even be tied up in the Crimson/Platinum dragon storyline which, it was my impression, was supposed to continue on.
