Ok, for this post, I would like to put aside the idea that we are going to interact with the insurance system, or try to steal insured items.

Instead, people now steal things like powerscrolls. Why? They are cursed, available in Fel and widely sought after for their end result. They are not an end unto themselves, but produce a result, unlike cursed arties. Cursed arties are not used because they are . . cursed.

So what if we added more things like powerscrolls. For example, cursed runic hammers. Maybe they are more sought after because you can choose the mods (but not the intensities). Or cursed ingredients that can craft stuff.

Now some would rather steal this from someone who has earned it rather than "steal" it off the ground or from a chest. I would say both, then thieves can steal them from each other.

Also,do not assume a monopoly or anything. Assume its all available in Trammel as well.

What kind of items would work or make it worthwhile?

I see no point in any "let's help thieves thread" suggesting much other but removal of insurance. That's what needs to be done...and it will help much more than thieves.

They do need to do something for thieves. I've never played one but i'd be pressed to try one if they were actually useful.

The only thing that needs to be changed for thieves is that passive detect cannot reveal a character with GM Stealing Snooping and Stealth.

Real sufficient (70) skill in detecting hidden should be the only option for having a chance at revealing them.

They would still take damage from fields/potions/AoE spells/Weapons.

get rid of passive detect. Allow thieves to "steal" insured/blessed items. They dont get the item but they do get 600 gps from the item holder. JUst my 2 cents

I don't steal items to make 600 gold...

...but I did have a similar idea before. Insured / blessed items can be stolen but all stolen items received a "stolen" tag (same as cursed) but the tag is lifted if the original owner has it back in his pack.

Oh yeah, and bring back perma grey, but make it different. You should be perma grey only to the person or people you've stolen from. That status is lifted if they ever kill you and it doesn't get lifted just because you die randomly or suicide yourself.

It's kind of like a personal perma grey to whoever you've stolen from and only is removed whenever they catch you. I'd say 'yes' to perma grey in Trammel too. If they catch you with your pants down and you have something valuable in your pack then... (Risk vs. Reward?)

If you just do 2 easy changes alot will be done to help out thieves on production chards.
1. If your skills in hide, stealth, snooping and stealing goes ower 400 you should not be effected by passivev reveal.

2 Make so only 1 of each armor pice and weapond and jewelry can be incured. That meens no one can run around whit 1-3 armor/weapond setups. This will even effect pvp alot to the better.
