When a mob hits you, do you receive damage by the same calculator as that used for player vs player? I have tried to determine this but my results are inconclusive. It just seems that some mobs hit me for about 50% damage regardless of the strength of the toon I am playing (same resists).

How do you mean 50% damage? All creatures have a base damage which is increased by Anatomy, Tactics, and STR, as well as any slayer vulnerability, and decreased by Feint and suit resists.

Some damage is direct damage and cannot be reduced/blocked etc... for example Solen acid which is always 30 dmg, Dragon fire breath, Molten Earth Elemental fire attack, Interred Grizzle acid...

Is this what you're referring to?

And don't forget there is a cap on damage in PvP, no cap for mobs.
I mistakenly thought this too, but Logrus corrected my understanding in the warrior forum chiv thread. There is only a pvp cap from Armor Ignore.

I believe monsters run under the same rule set. A little confused by your statement, "...of the strength of the toon...", because the damage done to you by another player, monster, or npc is based on that attackers strength and not yours.

If you want to run some tests to confirm then research the creature and use the stratics combat calculators entering the creatures stats and skills into the calculators as attacker. Another alternative there is a pvm combat that does the melee calculations for you with respect to many common creatures. Calculating magic spell damage could be done the same.

I may have been a little premature in my original post (and unclear). By strength, I meant hit points. I had been playing two toons with quite a difference in hit points. I began having the feeling that fighting the same creatures, that sometimes it seemed that the damage I was receiving was about 50% of the hit points, rather than a specific number of hit points. I stripped the toons down to naked to test this, and posted before I really tested fully. I am pretty sure that the damage I incurred was not a percentage of my hitpoints. Thanks for suffering my errant post.
