Hello fellow Sosarians,

I have a report from my lead guard here in Minoc that is rather disturbing. I thought it would be best to bring this information to light, so we as a community could work together to help stop this type of violence from happening in our cities.

The head of the Royal Guard of Minoc has found a slain miner in the cave just east of Minoc. It appears that both the miner and his beetle were killed slowly and painfully -- 'clear signs of torture', the report states. This is the last thing I want to hear happening in or around my city.

When I was notified I did not hesitate to immediately dress in my finest fighting gear, and ride my black battle-worn horse to the eastern mining cave to help in the investigation myself. The scene was horrendous. It was so gory and brutal, I just don't even want to go in more detail. HOWEVER, during my search of the cave I did find something that might help us understand who could be behind such terror. Under the miners right hand was a handful of fabric, appears to be a bankers bag, with a torn piece of a yellow check. The only part you can read is "Datura" on the signature line.

Me and the guard called for more assistance to help clean up and secure the cave before morning shift begins. I then ran back to my office, and was flipping through files to see what I could find on this "Datura". I only could find one entry:

This past week at our royal governor meeting Lord Redbone, Governor of Britain, had brought up a name: Abrus Datura. At the time of the meeting he was saying his spies scouts, had spotted Abrus Datura in both Jhelom and Minoc late last week. Coming off the highly contested governor race, I thought this was more of a smear tactic to try and say me and my colleague Cri Mort were somehow involved with such scum. However, being the leader I am, I instructed the guards to be on high alerts, and to watch specifically for this Abrus Datura. Sadly, a loss of life has occurred, and somehow Abrus Datura is involved. The guard who was assigned to the east cave was sleeping on the bridge with a sign that read 'nap time'. This guard will be severely punished for his lack of attention, and depending on the investigation - penalties could be more severe.

Now, at this early hour I do not know if Datura was involved physically or financially. I expect to have all banks on notice that a check will be appearing with a corner torn off, to ID the depositor, and hold this man or women in your holding cages until I can arrive to interrogate!

In the meantime, all citizens of Sosaria need to be watching their back. Do not get caught alone.

At this time, no other action can be taken. I ask that all people of Minoc and Sosaria take a moment to remember this fine miner that lost his life today in the caves. He is lost, but not forgotten. Justice will be served.

I will update everyone as soon as more information comes in.

Lord Cotton Eye Joe - Governor of Minoc

PS: The name of this slain miner will not be released until all family members, friends, and associates have been notified.

My heart breaks for the poor family of the slain miner of Minoc! I had heard of the long hours he put in at the mines trying to support his family!

While enjoying a frosty beverage at my favourite pub in Buc's Den, I overheard a group of dastardly looking fisherman talking about this murder..... They each had their own theories as too who might of commited this heinous act, but one name I heard shook me to the core...... It pains me to say such a thing, but I heard that the former governor of Jhelom, Red Snapper might have something to do with this!!! I was in utter disbelieve!! They had mentioned that since the elections were over, Red Snapper was fuming and wanted to exact revenge on Kal Vas Cri Mort and Cotton Eye Joe.

I had always thought of Red Snapper as a very good leader, before her governorship Jhelom was a dangerous town. There was chaos in the streets, and the local shop-keeps were constantly at war with each other! When the town came under her control, it the attitude in town changed overnight like magic!! Ever since the elections began, she had seemed to changed.... Kal Vas Cri Mort was a fresh voice in the crowd and the people seemed to draw to her! The followers of Kal Vas were very loyal and did all they could to sway the election in her favour. I even heard tales of one person making a trail of fish from the Luna mint all the way to her vendor house!

One must wonder if Abrus Datura is a hired gun or just an angry loyalist? Is he/she a friend of the former leader of Jhelom? Who/Where will they strike next?

All I can say is that the people of this great land of Sosaria must watch their backs, especially the ones that follow the new leadership in Jhelom and Minoc.

Something smells "fishy" about this whole situation!

Signed,

A Friend Of Sosaria

This always happens when I'm away from my job!!!

La Quintrala apologizes for this tragic occurrence. Selene asked for assistance with learning the intricate arts of Necromancy so I (La Quintrala) spent the day (yesterday) at the Lycaeum helping train the warrior in the magic of the undead.

This evening I plan on using Gov Cotton's open door policy in order to respond within his wishes as aggressively as possible.

Guard patrols of the mining areas, path to the moongate, and the gypsy camps with increase significantly until further notice. Also, the northern route to the Khaldun area will be under constant surveillance to identify any undesirables.

Red Snapper was not the previous governor of Jhelom. Holly Bloodhand was. Under her "leadership" Jhelom became even more a den of piracy and misdeeds than it already was. I shudder to consider the intention of anyone who considers the previous governorship of Jhelom to be a success.

Since no one had thrown their name in the hat the day before voting began during the last election, Bloodhand took the opportunity to seize power. In fact, her lack of much effort to retain that power should have people worried... she is not one to give up so easily.

I recall the last election as it was right when I came out of retirement and back into the swing of things in the land. It seems to me that somehow Holly managed to grab three different governorships (or at least one with two puppet governors). My memory is a bit hazy on the subject due to the unaccustomed workload of one returning from retirement as well as my lack of involvement (at the time) in politics. However, it seems to me that the powers to be should not dismiss Holly nor should anyone discount the possibility of her being involved in or even instigating the nefarious deeds befalling our cities.

Aside from my personal concern for Minoc and my governor's association with the city of Valor... I am worried about Vesper--without strong leadership our neighbor could be in some serious trouble.

If Vesper falls to anarchy and evil... Cove will lose any semblance of security and, in the end, Minoc will be essentially cut off, isolated, and alone in the fight against the evil that seems to be spreading.

As a member of the government of Minoc, Resiew-dub is actively searching for clues about the killer/killers as well as continuing his job providing funds for the city through trade with other cities. During one such mission from Minoc to Moonglow, he happened upon a rouge group of bandits in the eastern reaches of the continent. These thugs attacked him and, to their dismay, were immediately confronted with a giant rock monster who proceeded to smash them to little bits with huge fists and huge flying boulders. However, before the rock monster annihilated the last bandit, Resiew-dub sent the colossus away and decided to question the thief. After nicely asking Charlton to stand down, Resiew had to resort to force to get the information needed.

After trapping the villain in the impossible 'X' of fate... Charlton began to beg for mercy. Resiew patiently questioned the rogue about the murder in Minoc. Charton, the tough guy brigand, started crying and blubbering. Through choked up sobs he said that everyone was looking in all the wrong places. The evildoers commit their atrocities in "our world" (his words) but live in their own. Minax's mirror world is a bastion of slime and villainy. Resiew demanded to know where the hideout was and Charlton, losing blood and turning dangerously pale spit some blood from his mouth and said "You are coming upon a hideout... but it... is......... not......"

His eyes rolled to the back of his head as he passed out. Resiew incinerated the body with a flamestrike and moved on. In not much time, he found an old healing station that looked so old that it appeared to be from ages long past when Lord British ruled our land. One healer seemed to be running the station (which seemed otherwise abandoned) but a closer look at the old man found him to be lost to the world around him. Daryl's eyes were glossed over and his mind seemed to be trapped in the past reliving the horrific scenes he had seen.

As Resiew searched through the buildings, the mess, clutter, and absolute lack of any sort of hospice care made it clear that this aide station was long out of use. In the last building, he came upon what he suspected he might, a group of rogues relaxing as if they hadn't a care in the world.

These rogues were not just humans, but there were orcs, ogres, and a troll as well. After their surprise at seeing a virtuous mystic mage at their door, they attacked! These villains must have been of a higher caliber than Charlton because, try as he might, Resiew was unable to calm or break the beserking attack. He had no choice but to kill all of them and was unable to question them further. Polly, obviously their leader, was clearly a radical and zealously attacked and led her minions into the fight which, for them, did not end well.

After investigation of the area, Resiew did not find any more clues.

However, the trade minister in Moonglow was extremely pleased to see the shipment arrived in good order even after so much conflict along the way.

Well Friend of Sosaria... You should really stop hiding behind a fake name. And if you knew anything about what you are or were talking about I have never been gov of any town. So please go back to the cave you came out of because you are making your self look like the person killing miner's in Minoc.

I'm not sure who the A Friend Of Sosaria is, but the attempt to to please the Lord of Minoc failed. It wasn't by lack of effort, it was was by lack of knowledge. Even though we are a mining town, we do try to stay atop of the news as it is reported by our local town crier on repeat.

Minoc is still looking to gather clues and a plan to expedite this search for clues will be announced soon!

Non - RP: A party involved w/ this quest line has asked, for personal reasons, to put this on hold for the time being. I wish this party a quick recovery and we will be coming back to this in the near future.
I will work on my 2nd event -- although it'll end up being my 1st event. Sorry for any confusion, anger or hurt feelings.
