Mining Blackrock and gems. Elf or human miner ?

Can anyone tell me if its easier to mine Blackrock and gems using a elf miner? And if so then can anyone tell me what use would a human miner be if any compared to a elf miner. I am trying to decide if I should change my human miner into a elf.

elves get gems twice as often (still not a whole lot)

I could be wrong, but I believe being Elf or Human has no effect on Mined Gems, or Blackrock. I believe being Elf just gives you an increased chance of coming up with colored ore with each swing of the Pickaxe or Shovel.
Again, I could be mistaken about this, but that is how I have always understood it.

You're wrong.

Elf = more likely to attain "special" resources, as the two people above you have correctly stated. That includes gems. It also allegedly increases the coloured ore and wood you get. I personally haven't noticed this, but it may well exist.
