Metal Box Strong Box and Metallic Dye Tub

For some reason, my metallic dye tub no longer will dye the metal box, or strongbox. It says "only metal objects can be dyed with this tub".
Anyone else have this problem?

Turn it with tool then try. This happened long ago with the monster metal chests.
