Mesanna Pumpkins

Has anyone noticed they spawn very very rarely and you get excited when ones does finally spawn to find it empty... I have been working 2 shards Baja and Catskills and since Oct 1 i have only been able to get a total of 6 Mesanna ones to spawn and of them 3 had masks.. Was there a reason this year the drop rate is so very low? On side note all 3 that were empty came from the Baja shard

Not even heard that as a rumor until now. With the number of folks on Atlantic farming pumpkins, them getting one with their name would have already spread like wildfire if that were the case I would imagine.

I would have seen a players name if it were a chance to spawn, highly doubt it is.. I have killed over 200 pumpkins myself, and only have maybe 50 masks, so the mask rate is low. I am not one to complain however, I just enjoy the hunt while it lasts..

Like all other things the RNG is borked with this too..... often I'll find that one day is say an EM Elizabella day..... and then another day it'll be that I get 6 to 8 Ditto's... but never have I had a Mesanna streak...

Now often I do the pumpkin patches at least once a day or so..... and so far I've killed 21 Killer Pumpkins with Mesanna's name... and I've so far gotten 4 of her masks..... just 4 in 21 pumpkins..... pretty crummy odds if you ask me. But as I told Mesanna UO and the RNG HATE me. I have the worst luck in-game. I am glad that the 4 masks I've gotten included the two new styles.... so at least there is that.

I spent from 06:44 to 11:45 on a Friday, and then 07:00 till noon on Saturday attempting to get a mask or two, here was the issues I ran into.

Using the clear the field method to make them spawn faster (collects the pumpkins and tosses them in the trash);
During the almost 11 hours of play the following a curd:
Had 13 killer pumpkins spawn during that time frame, of the 13 pumpkins I received 0 (zero) masks!!!
Which is both disappointing and frustrating in my opinion? I worked hard with no favorable results, so I went back on Sunday and did the same thing from 07:30 to noon, and was able to get 7 more pumpkins to spawn. Low and behold again not a single mask.

Yes I agree the spawn rate could be a bit faster, clearing a pumpkin patch is a bear and you run the risk of someone getting your pumpkins while you’re dumping the others in the trash. I think the clearing of a patch should not have to be one of the requirements to do the quest.


So I have given up on this event, just like I have on EM driven events for the same reason, too much work for little to no return! This is supposed to be a game, games in general are supposed to be fun. Where is the fun in being on line for 15+ hours with nothing to show for it?

I have been playing for almost 6 years now, I the one constant that I see when it comes to EM Events, Seasonal Events, Upgrades, Changes or whatever you want to call them is, Fairness!
You can have the best graphics in the world, but if there is not a sense of fairness in a game, people will quit playing. I know the Developers of UO are trying to make the game better, but I also feel they don’t look at the whole picture and don’t follow through with Ideas. There are a lot of things I love about this game, but I wish I could stick those who create it in a room for a day and just sit down and show them the flaws in what they are doing on some of the simple stuff.

Anyways that’s my two cents worth for now.
I hope with all my heart that things do get better in the UO universe and that it’s around another 15 years, because even with all its flaws and issues and goofy ass players, it’s still the best on-line game out-there!

I think if you moved some skills around or even did a 15 day free trial char and did 50 necro/50 spirit speak to cast horde minion you would enjoy the mask collecting more. Instead of running to the trashcan you load the horde minion down then just release it. The horde minion and the pumpkins it's carrying just disappear.

I think it's only 30 necro and 30 SS needed for the Horde Minion, though higher necro increases the casting success. So, something easily done with equipment only (no real skill points, just jewelry, ML minor artifact talisman, and maybe spellbook and Bracers to increase casting success) that can be swapped out for fighting the actual grims.

This building special characters for different events is BS, no one should have to switch around anything, especial to hunt silly ass pumpkins, nor should they have to start up another account. I should be able to do things in this game with the characters that I have, end of story!

I'm not having any trouble doing pumpkins with any of my old school template characters..

Mostly hitting them with my Chiv/Archer or Bard/ Mage. But even my Fisher/Archer can take em.

Sooo - you would like UO to cater to your play style?

Every account has at least 6 char slots, if you had only 100 skill points for each skill on each char that is humm - 35 different skill - and with soul stones easy to obtain or make it would be easy to stone off 2 skills from ANY of your chars and get at least 50 Necro / 50 SS (only 100 points) added to any of your teplates. Now if you have nothing but crafters you are kinda screwed and I am sorry but i HIGHLY doubt it. Soo an Archer, Mage, Tamer all are easy templates to use to deal with the pumpkins.

If oyu dont want to travel to trash cans get a Goat, they eat them, just keep piling them into the goat.

If none of those suggestions fit, well then I am terribly sorry but you should probably look elsewhere for advice as you have been given many options.

I have killed well over 650 Killer pumpkins this year alone and have a pretty steady rate of 50% Masks / Pumpkins.

Your run of luck was extremly bad, the RNG truley hates you. Also you should perhaps work smaller fields, that way you can see if one spawns, and if somone else jumps in just hit it a few times to get looting rights, screw them if they get upset, but thats life, espicially if you are the one clearing the fields for them to spawn.

I took my warrior out to the fields this afternoon. I found 11 killer pumpkins in the fields north of Brit. I did not clear anything. The fields were full of pumpkins. I got 6 masks including a plague Messana.

Maybe you can find a time on your shard when the population is low and go for the pumkins just sitting there. Two of the fields had 3 killer pumpkins on them.

I have tried using a hoard minion but spawn is so slow I just leave.

Four and a half hours and you got 7 pumpkins and that's all? YEP you are doing something WRONG!

You might be just having a bad run with the RNG but I'd like to see.. what shard you on? ICQ me (It's in my profile) and I'll come help ya clear fields and get pumpkins... I usually get at least 1 mask outta every six or so pumpkins.. so lets double team it and see..

Been getting 1 mask out of every 2 I do. BTW what patch are you clearing? I know Britts spawn soooooo slow

I’m on Atlantic, been working the two southern patches in Britten. Talking to the others I’ve seen there, they too are frustrated with the slow span and lack of reward (empty Pumpkins). As for me, I’m tired of wasting my time on it. I’ll just go back to crafting stuff for my guild mates and running my tavern on tavern nights, but thanks for the offer.
