Memory Lane

Even though I know it had to happen, even though I have moved all my sims to EALand, I still felt sad to read that the production cities are closing permanently next week.

Although I havnt been very active in the game for the past 2 years until I rejoined in about August or September last year. I still have a lot of very fond memories of my time in Dans Grove. I had played in AV and IH (i think) mostly during Beta in 2002, but when Dans Grove opened I moved there almost immediately with another friend and that was my main TSO home for a long long time.

I didnt really have much direction with the game then, I kind of flitted from one thing to another, until a roomie decided that what we really needed was chalkboards, and my house suddenly took off and was number 1 house for some time. It was an amazing time, there were no stores, no trade, no categories, just a lot of fun with so many amazing people. Roomies then really were committed to making a house a success and I had some of the best (and 1 of the worst!, but thats another story lol)

I only had the one account then, didnt even know you could have more than 1. I remember seeig a red balloon in my friend network, and thinking, oh thats pretty I wonder how I got it. That was at a time when if you didnt cancel an action, you automatically accepted it, so I had picked up an enemy and didnt even know it, didnt even know you COULD have enemies lol.

Then stores came along and I found my niche, and have been running stores ever since.

And of course there were the players, so many fab friends I made, so many that have now gone. I miss them all, especially the ones I was closest to then. There were times that I laughed till I cried, there were times that I put my sim in bed and refused to get up because of the hassle I was getting. I loved it all.

What are your fond memories of your time in the production cities?

Living with ChristyKTN and the gang in Jolly Pines...I miss those days! *sniff*

Hmm...Memory Lane...you know what I did a few Christmas's ago? I made an iDVD called Memory Lane for my parents. It had a bunch of pictures from things we've done in the past 15 years. If only I kept all of the pictures from TSO...if only I kept all of my old Stratics Siggies. Then I could at least look back on them and say, "You know what? That was pretty awesome"

But all I have is the images in my brain.

OH and Betaville! I miss Betaville so much! Goooooooooooooooooood times

Yeah, it rather struck right in the gut, reading the blog... I will miss AV *sniff*

Pretty much on one of my first days in TSO, I was visiting a property where they were lighting off fireworks, indoors. Then, there was a fire... big one, too... all the sims stopped what they were doing and ran over to the fire, freaking out, with the little fire bubble above their heads. Now, being new, I had NOOOOO idea what was going on, but I went with it..... and sent and urgent IM to my roomie at the time about how I was gonna die!!!

I must say, I've learned so much more since then, and eagerly share that knowledge with new sims... I just hope that EA Land provides me with the same fond memories that I have of AV

Poor Coz, then later I'm sure you discovered that many of us (yes I did say us *cough*
) were pyromaniacs in disguise and set fires as often as we could. My most fond memories were in BF before it became overwrought with menacing mafias. I became a regular at Chalkboard Sanctuary, then owned by Bob Dobalina and his *many wives*
I say that cuz I think at the time he had 2 or 3 that he went back and forth between, and it was quite a soap opera watching some of the drama that went on LOL. When we got sick of doing boards for a bit, we could go in the game room where fireworks were and see what we could do about setting fires. One day Bob or one of the roomies, can't remember who, put one behind me where I was making boards saying if I had such a affinity for setting off the fireworks then in their words '[censored] it lets see how long it takes you to make a fire here, and whether or not a chalkboard will catch on fire with it'. Took a WHILE that day to get a fire started, but it was worth it cuz the fire was so close to the chalkboards that every single sim did as Coz described and went running toward the fire abandoning their boards. Best I can remember, no boards were damaged since I don't think property could be damaged by fire in the production cities like it can in BV. Sims can even die from fire there, but again that's not a feared thing, its a goal for alot of people

When it was all said and done though, guess who had to clean up the ashes from the fire? And no, they wouldn't move the trashcan closer to the fire spot, so naturally my poor sim had to jog either to the nearest trashcan or outside to the trashcan there, whichever one she picked.....which of course everybody else had as much fun pointing and laughing at as I did setting the fire in the first place. Payback is Hades I guess

Oh my..such wonderful memories. No maids or plumbers or repairmen. You just took your chances fixing lights. But best of all was our casino click. I started originally in Feb 2003 playing my son's account after he said "mom , come check this game out, you'll love it. I was a mario and tetris fan at the time..lol. I ended up with my own account 2 months later still trying to learn the ropes of the game and then I met a crowd of the greatest people in the world and we hung out everytime I got on. One close friend that I hung out with and I had similar RL stories and
after about 6 months of continious contact we met in RL. We have been together ever since and still play TSO together. I loved the game back then and i'm sure i'll love the new version but I will always miss my friend-families. Thank you for this wonderful post. Especailly on valentines day!!!

oooh, speaking of taking your chances fixing things....

when death finally came to TSO, like many sims, we had a death party... there were a few lights that electrocuted you no matter what you mech skill... then, after all were dead, except the shaman, we all toodled off to properties WAYYYY down on the top 100 list, with one sim sitting there all alone. We proceeded to invade these poor sims properties, with the shaman following along to clean up all our ecto-pee.

Yes, those were the good ol days.

I remember and miss so many of my old sim friends. I miss 3 people most of all and I sure wish I could say their names because they were always very special to me.

First was my sim dad, that big old polar bear who...

*adopted all the guys in Mount Fuji so that I would not be able to date or get married because all the guys were related to me. There was the time he turned my sim sister's house into a huge swimming pool when she wasn't looking. Then when he filled my house full of tombstones when he discovered a broken lightbulb upstairs. In the end....we found out that he was the enfamous "Snowman Serial Killer" and not only did he kill snowmen and leave huge 'snowman puddles' everywhere....he probably killed our mom too.

Second person was my wonderful sim hubby who in real lived on the other side of the world....

*never did he cease to crack me up with his shenanigans. From just saying his funny 'Aussie' things to running around in a crowded house in either the pink dress or just 'nothing' at all. I'll never forget that he enrolled others to tell me to read his bio and after hours of being poked....I did.

Lastly was my sim's 'double-mint' twin...

*we all need a few 'gal-pals' to hang out with and she was the absolute best.

Then there was my guy sim's ladies....he would hide in his store and not talk because of 'match-makers'. I was like...."Stay quiet and hide and they'll go away". "Sorry, I can't link ya cause I don't have enough locks to hold my skills"..... the only thing I wondered is "How do I tell them...that's MY sim" and so please STOP HITTING ON HIM!!! Needless to say, you could almost hear their jaws hit the floor when I finally told them.

I remember the first house I roomied at in Calvin's Creek. The guy was a real sport jock and I was subjected to way too much sports lingo every night but the folks in the house were really nice.

I'll never forget when we put in the wrong toilets for the 'overflow' game and after hours and hours of flushing...they were begging for us to just kill them and get it over.

Of course, figuring out that you can pee in a pool that is 3 squares big with 21 sims in it was pretty awesome too.

Ahhh, the sims and all the good times. I look forward to many more good times in the future.

Sure wish all my buddies would come back and play once the dust settles. I sure miss them all.

That made for a rather hilarious visual!

Your toilet story reminded me of the time I put a porta-potty in my front yard, and a friend of mine helped me flood out the yard with it... I still have pics of that:

yea i remember not to long ago... selling pet statues for 900mil each, cannons brought 1.5 bill, tree auctions .. EVEN store owners finally came together, chatting, having fun, bidding on rares... serenading each other - god, that was the high point of the game when even the most competitive players start enjoying each others company lol - others could enjoy 100k jams...

moving, building, moving, building, owning outdoor robokitties, purple turks running round, i miss that care-free sim life

good times, good times

suddenly shock, confusion, game will be updated, money will be deleted..... neither ripes nor rares, not even freakin crafts were available in AV, they announced the whole thing bout half a year to soon....

all that waiting threw expectations out the roof! lol i really was excited, thought soon will be playing sims 2 online hehe!

nowadays leftovers get squeezed into dressers and high ends waiting to move into ealand... wonder how that affects the economy, prolly cancels cash -in option for good.

I have played this and The Sims so long that I couldn't look at this picture without hearing, in my head, the "waa waa waa waa waa waa" song that plays when a sim has a bladder=o incident.

Its not like the production cities are going to dissapear. We are still going to be able to move our sims back into them once everything is merged.

Hahaha!!!

That 'wa..wa...wa' is too funny. I know I have to stop and canvas the house for the person responsible.

Or when someone dies and the death music is stuck on your computer for hours and hours....now THAT's a bug the devs could fix.

Ummm.....sorry, but this is wrong. Our production city sims will be merged into EA Land, and then the production cities will be no more....this has always been the way it's going to be. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant here or maybe it's a typo, but just didn't want anybody else to get the wrong impression. From everything I've read, the only time the production cities are going to open back up is whenever the next bullet train is set before the production cities go offline on the 20th. Those that do not move their sims on the bullet train will have no access to those sims from Feb 20th until whenever the cities those sims are in merge into EA Land!

I think he means the 'designated area' for that city.

Like Fuji will move to the big map...so my sims sitting over in the AV area will be able to move or visit folks in the Fuji area.

I'm sooo looking forward to all my eggs being in the same city....hope fuji is ready for my tribe.....one of my stalkers will need to get married and have kids so she will have enough fingers and toes to count them all.

I will miss Alphaville and Calvin's Creek. Good news is that I can still continue my stories I've done in the past, but I'm not sure how they would be done now since all the city names are disappearing.

So what do you think will be the future?

Will we continue to refer to our "designated areas" by city name?
Will residents of "designated areas" have the ability to name their area someday and a label that appears on the map?
When meeting new people will you tell them you live in column 3 row 1? LOL.
How long before all the old cities names become forgotten?
And just what do we call that "other designated area" currently in EALand?

Ok, I'm terrible at taking this trip down memory lane. I always seem to be more focused on the future, sorry.

Maybe I have this wrong, but ..
When the production cities are merged to EA Land, and I log back onto my AV sim..won't she still be in her home surrounded by all the other AV homes and sims in the same AV landscape ?
Seems to me the only change will be that she can visit other cities at will without having to physically move to them. A definite bonus for finding open properties when playing internationally and working with different timezones.
Once you zoom into city view it's all going to be the same as it is now. The cities aren't being deleted .

Guess I just don't understand the doom and gloom feeling.
What am I missing ?

Whether you are zoomed in or out, the map will always say EALand at the top. You will not see the word Alphaville, again

Yes, it'll be the same city all right -- taken over and renamed by an Evil Corporate Empire! The same sort that goes around, and buys and renames baseball stadiums...
