I thought the max amount was based on the total $ of all items held, but may be a different amount than what the OP is talking about
i heard at 2 billion is a no no, so the max you can hold that would be safe is 1,999,999,999, but i can tell you that a vendor can hold 1.4 billion and its still fine from experience, just heard from others at 2 billion or more the gold gets deleted or something

2,147,483,647 is my guess.
If you have that much gold your playing the game wrong. Might try the other 9/10ths of things that can be done in the game. Look at Trump and Gates. All the money makes you crazy and does weird things to your hair.

Really? I always heard 2b so I stayed away from that like the plague.
If having gold is wrong I don't wanna be right.
Who is going to risk 2 billion to figure out if it is still bugged or not.
Maybe it could be done during a server downtime. But that only lasts about 5 minutes and it would take longer than that to get it all on there.
Whatever bozo, having that much gold shows a serious lack of need anymore.
Also, a serious amount of too much time on your hands and no life.

Theres nothing wrong with having 500mill in my bank/vendors/home at a time, I work hard between brokering and working deals back and forth, imbuing etc.
With your comment about "lack of need" you can tell your logic is well, askew. There more gold I have, the more I spend, I need so many items per day, imbuing etc and I can never usually find it, and I play atlantic. I work with atleast 10-15 players per day checking with them. And I only play maybe 1 2.5 hours a day.
I think I spend more time here replying to thoughtless post as this.

too much time on someones hands? it really is not difficult to make 2 billion gold lol, im really amazed not everyone has atleast that these days, 4 or 5 years ago i can understand but this day in age, common now
I had no idea UO was played by so many socialists.
I acquire everything I need in game and sell the stuff I don't need. So my gold piles up. I hang on to it because I don't want to throw it out but I don't sit around all day trying to acquire more. It just accumulates through my playstyle.
I guess the game immitates real life. I also make far more than I spend so it piles up.
Just because you don't run your finances the same way - don't rip on someone else who manages their money better.

You're at an em event and you kill a monster and on it's corpse is a really cool gadget that makes a rain storm with lightning where-ever you target. The item is one of a kind and someone offers you 2 billion gold for it.

just letting you know, Ive never ran into a limit and Ive had a large varying amount of gold on the vendor. I dont know the exact amount I had but it was well over 2billion gold, If memory serves me right it was 2.6.

I wouldn't try to test that limit. I prefer to spread gold around on multiple venders.So no unforeseable event might occur.

Make PvM chars on shards where EMs are giving out high end EM items and attend the events.
Also shards that Dev love to toss out billion gold items.
