It was added to the classic client almost 2 years ago, IIRC (shortly after the release of SA, I think), after being introduced in the Kingdom Reborn client and kept when KR was repalced by the EC.
I just had a similar moment. I was making smoke bombs, shurikens, and deadly poison potions. UO doesn't have that 3rd world sweatshop feel that it used to have. Ironic since gold sellers are frequently stocked by 3rd world sweatshops.
Edit: I haven't observed the sweatshop gold farmers in UO in a couple years.
