Majot Help Needed - 12 Years away!

Hi all,

Firstly let me say i used to plau Ultima Online around 99-01, and myself and a couple of my pals have decided to come back out of curiosity more than anything.

I require some mega advice with my char template, as a lot has changed over 12 years!

I had a warrior with the following stat set:

Str - 87
Dex - 88
int - 28

Firstly no idea whats happened here, the cap was 225 when i used to play. I had 100,100,25. I think my brother had meddled with my char since albeit a long time ago. My stat cap is now 250 (What is the max?), what is the best combo? 110, 110, 30???

Skill Set

Anatomy - 101.6
Archery - 51.1
Focus - 114.9
Healing - 93.4
Parrying - 110
Swords - 104.9
Tactics - 104

Skill Cap - 720 (What is the max?)

Again i don't know whats happened here. Back at the beginning of the millennium i was 6 x gm (Anat,Arch,Mag Resist, Parry, Swords, Tact).
Again my bro has appeared to change this. Why is focus required??? Should i reduce that and get my resist back up???

Also i am on the Europa server, ive been on for about 5 mins and it seemed empty. Is this the case? If it is the case is it better to be a PvM char????

Im tempted to go back to my old skill set of: Anat, Arch, Heal, Parry, Swords, Tact and Magic Resist. Is this the right thing to do???

Major advice required because i don't recognise half these skills!!!!

Any advice would be much appreciated, i feel like a major newbie again!

Cheers.

Do whatever is the most fun for you. Focus and Magic Resist are very easy to train, so you never lose much. You can also put skills on soul stones. Europa? You might want to visit the appropriate Europa forum. Archery + Parry does not make sense as a combination.

Thanks for the reply. You're right about archery, I think I'll ditch it for magic resist!

The stratics website states that I should also have chiv instead of focus. What is chiv? I presume focus is for special moves? (Something which came along after I left!)

One final question, is there a way to see what my individual skill caps is? I just put a +15 swords ring on but I only got a boost by 4.6% to 110, so that's obviously my cap. Are there still power scrolls about?

Powerscrolls? Yes, lots of. Individual skill cap? Which client are you using - classic or enhanced? "chiv" -> Chivalry... is a skill. Among other things Chivalry gives you the spell "Sacred Journey". It is like Magery's Recall for warriors. Focus grants you regeneration abilities and it strengthens Mysticism spells.

Magic resist: A lot of people will tell you that you go either for 120 or for 0.

Some links for you:
One thing you should know: Today it's all about items. Suits, weapons, dozens of weapons actually.

Thanks for the links.

Im playing with the classic client.....

Sacred Journey replaces Rune Books then??

I might replace archery with resist spells then, and reduce focus for chiv!

Cheers.

Replace archery? Another link for you: http://www.uoguide.com/Soulstone

Sacred Journey does not replace rune books. Rather the opposite. With Sacred Journey you can utilize rune books.

Classic Client? There are buttons on the bottom of the skill list which lets you change view from normal to caps or to real skill. Classic Client is arguably the better client. I highly recommend you use UO Assist with Classic Client, its skill list also shows you the current skill caps. http://www.tugsoft.com/UOAssist/

Welcome back! kRux has linked some good webpages for you to get a feel for some of the warrior skills that you will need depending on what you are playing. Europa is slower as is many of the shards now. Atlantic is the busiest. What time zone are you on? That can affect how many you see on as well. Chivalry is a warrior aide that is magic based. It has many spells that enhance your melee or ranged skills. It also gives you sacred journey (same as recall) close wounds (a healing spell) cleanse by fire (cure) and remove curse (removing curses lol) There are weapon enhancing spells and area spells as well. Focus is a passive stamina/mana regen skill that also is used in place of eval for mysticism.

Your template can greatly vary depending on PvM or PvP but you can use vet reward soul stones or purchased soul stones to store and swap out skills so you can do both with the same character. If you go PvM do seaches for sampire for a good melee based PvM template.

Stats max is now 260. Everyone got a +5 bonus from AOS and brings you to 230 from there you need to get stat scrolls. An Ultimate Scroll of Power (+25 to stats) will take you to 255 (you will need that if you are at 250 because it sounds like your brother used a +20 and they don't stack.) You can then get a Scroll of Valiant Commendation [Replica] to take you to 260. Those are up and over a few million so it may be a little while till you can get them. Gold is a lot easier to earn now and you will find that you it will add up quicker than you expect. Max skills is 720 if your account age is 4 years older or more. It gets +5 every year for the first 4 years. 120 is max for each skill and only gotten to by the use of power scrolls. You can find power scrolls that are +5, +10, +15, and +20. They are gotten as loot when doing champion spawns in Felucca or you can find them for sale on vendors. They do not stack so you cannot use 4 of the +5 to get to 120, you actually need a Legendary Scroll of (Insert Skill Here) to get to 120 for that skill. Startics and UOGuide have a lot of information that you will want to read up on. I am about to leave for work and will add more to this later if others have not already given you more information. Welcome back and good luck!

Thank you everyone for the advice!

Im actually in South Africa at the moment so +2 hrs GMT. I do normally live in the UK though.

As Europa is so quiet i would imagine i would be doing more PvM. As this is the case would archery and resist spells actually be the most beneficial alongside the necessary 5 main skills of Swords, Tactics, Parry, Heal and Anat??

I'll have a look about for power scrolls, looks like im +5 short on stats (+ needing the valiant commendation scroll).

I was actually one of the founders of the Duchy of Trinsic. I notice some of the npcs are named after the duchy. Are they still about??

Hmmm would you folks recommend the following then:

Base 5 skills of - Anat, Heal, Parry, Swords, Tactics

If im going PvM add Archery and Resist?
if its PvP then go Chiv and Focus?

Still not sure what to do!

For PvM I would look at adding Bushido and getting rid of Resist. Resist has changed and for PvM I believe it only really helps with curses. I think you should do a search in the warrior forums for Sampire and ABC Archer. It also depends on what you are looking to do. If you are looking to solo hunt, Sampire with Swords is a solid template. ABC archer is nice but solo requires a lot of kiting and would be better for group work where someone else is tanking. I don't know much regarding PvP so I cannot really help other than search for PvP templates in the warrior forum.

For searching in only the warrior forum, go to the warrior forum main page and use the search box. I am sure you know that already but just in case. I would hate to think that someone misunderstood me and went page by page through the warrior forums doing a manual search.

Sorry for pestering everyone but searching through the forums has just made me more confused!

I think my char is predominately going to be a PvM, but i also don't want to get destroyed if i go to Fel. I have a good friend who also has a very similar template, so cross healing works very well.

I think for skills wise i have the following set in stone:

Anat
Bush (awesome)
Heal
Parry
Swords
Tact

Im undecided if i should just put 120 points in each, or should i keep some points for a 7th skill? I read that you need at least Chiv 84, is that correct? If so that couldn't be my 7th...
Maybe because i haven't been on so long, i still feel i need resist? Is this only the case if i go PvP?? Or would it be beneficial to make that the 7th skill and spread the 720 points over the 7?

That's my final quandary really, 6*120 or add resist (or another any suggestions??) and then decide which skills to raise above 100 (again suggestions welcome please!)

Cheers.

Don't be scared of Fel. Just go knowing there is a chance you may die and have your suit fully insured. If you die, just Rez up and get back in the action or go somewhere else. At most you will lose about 6K gold when you die. Just keep track of how much gold you have from your insurance menu.

Welcome back!

Welcome back.

You have gotten some specific answers to specific questions, so let me step back and hopefully frame the whole thing for you.

Most templates, warriors included, need Mana/Intelligence now, for one reason or another. Mana for Warriors is needed for special moves (there are 2 associated with each weapon and require weapon skill, usually Tactics, or sometimes another skill depending on the move, to use) and for "spells" associated with various warrior support skills.

Focus is a skill that regenerates Mana (slowly) and Stamina. It works with non-meddable armor. Some warriors use Meditation instead, and wear only-meddable armor. (Like my main character.) Impending changes may shift the balance back to Focus, by making non-meddable armor more viable. Some warriors use neither Med nor Focus, and instead rely almost solely on the Hit Mana Leach property, which can be found on weapons.

The main warrior support skills are as follows.
  • Bushido (associated with the Tokuno Islands map).
  • Chivalry (associated with the City of Luna in the Malas map).
  • Ninjitsu (a skill used for stealthy fighting, associated with the Tokuno Islands map).
All can be used in PvP or PvM, though Ninjitsu much less so in PvM. (You have to develop very particular tactics and techniques.) Choice is up to personal preference, playstyle, RP of your character, and the like.

Others have developed templates using non-standard support skills for warriors, such as Necromancy or Mysticism.

All of these support skills use "abilities" that are, for all practical intents and purposes, spells.

The most-powerful PvM templates are those that combine several support skills.

Warriors without any of the supporting skills, "old school" standard warriors, can still be viable but it is not easy. As of several years ago, the RP community on Europa had placed great restrictions on the use of any of these support skills, however.

Again, welcome back.
