Magic Lock / Unlock

These spells are pretty much useless now.

Can these be changed so that they can be cast on doors? I don't mean on peoples houses, I mean on doors to NPC buildings and in towns.

Since you cant use any fields in cities anymore, it would be nice to use these spells to get separation and isolation from zergy crews.

Telekinesis works on doors...magic lock locks things, magic unlock unlocks things. Not sure what more you want from them.

Yes, telekinesis does work on doors, very good. But the OP wants to be able to cast magic lock/unlock to work on npc doors, not telekinesis.

But to the OP. If this were allowed I could see a lot of griefing in the future with mages locking doors on people who can't cast unlock. Getting people stuck, blocking others from entering buildings, blocking off peoples access to monsters, etc.

Don't mind Jax, he regularly has nothing to contribute and states the obvious.

Magic Lock is pretty low-level spell so you can cast it with JoAT, but for non JoAT make it last a specific time similar to how long walls and fields last.

When I'm fighting a 4 or 5 v 1, I need to get separation to do anything against those numbers.

I think it is a good idea if it has a temporary duration....say anywhere from 10-30 seconds.

So that you can just spam it on the same door for as long as you want and nobody can get to you...? UO needs more ways to KILL people not more ways for people to run away.

Well if I'm asking for magic lock to work, wouldn't it be safe to say that magic unlock would allow you to open the door?

Think of it as wall of stone and dispel field.

If it is an unprepared dexer that doesn't carry scrolls for things of this nature then yes - they would need to wait for it to wear off.

I know I know I know - in your 'Perfect UO World' there would be a big group of enemies, 12 on each side. You would collide in the battle field and everyone would immediately jump off your horses, pair off, and weaken spam duel each other as long as it took to declare the winners!

I realize this, but there is simply no need. I'm all for empowering mages, but this would leave dexxers completely helpless. And don't say carry unlock scrolls...there's enough garbage players have to stock up on to compete as is.

P.S. Who is your mage?

As vile as it is to agree with Jax, in this case I do. Fields and area spells should be allowed in guard zones.

There was a guard zone, now there isn't. Seems pretty clear their intent.

I know that grasping concepts is difficult for you - but this is an alternative solution.

Ahh yes, when one can't serve a good rebuttal you can always rely on trying to argue irrelevant topics. The persons character in this case, irrelevant.

I think it'd be sweet to use in dungeons like the bottom of Deceit with the doors leading to the teleporters. You could screw so many people over that way. Just put a duration on how long the door's locked for.

Lock and unlock are definitely usable on dungeon doors. Last time I had to do this was during the crystalized essence quests 1 or 2 halloweens ago.

And I know they were usable in towns a long time ago. Haven't tried in a long time, was this changed? There was a timer too.



Telekenesis still works in dungeons/overland/towns as it always has.



Allowing field spells in town would be good. It won't have any effect in Tram, only Fel. NPCs are invul, guardwhack if used on players.

And allow summons too.

I tested it 2 nights ago on the stable gates in yew, the sheeps pen. I also tested it on some doors to those little buildings in that area and it didn't work.

Maybe just allow magic lock / unlock in Fel towns. I don't think people will really grief it, but, then again, I remember some guys used magic lock on a gift item spawner @ Brit Castle one time so that people couldn't run their chars in and get items. Now, that's a debate for another thread (home supply versus x-sharders), but magic lock has had some uses in that regard ;P.

Only reason I say Fel only is cause noobs might not be set up to unlock doors, could be annoying for them. They might not understand why a door is locked, of course, there could be a better described tool tip or message for locked doors to help newer players get assistance or find a way to get through the door. But I don't think the nature of the magic lock spell should change by duration or something.

Lynk, aside from magic lock and unlock, maybe ride teleport and server lines? Rooftops. Although, it would be pretty funny to trap a dude in between a set of doors, lol like Vesper bank or something.

There are so many more important problems in PvP than magic lock and unlock. Insignificant things like this aren't even worth talking about until they fix PvP as a whole.

Yes Jax, we get it. You want everyone to play a pure mage and cast weaken 60 times in one fight.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but it is 2010 and there have been several expansions. Most of which included additions of skills, spells, and the like which have altered PvP dramatically.

I don't care if you think this is insignificant, and in your eyes it may be because you probably zerg it up with a bunch of equally bad players. I fight outnumbered all the time, and since they wont let me cast fields in a guard zone.

To me, it is a big deal since when I fight against TB in Britain against 5+ people at a time there is no way to spread them out long enough to cast more than one spell.

You try to come across as some iconic PvPer who knows everything, but on all of the shards I play and all of the different vents I've been in I've never heard of you.
