Mage Weapons

Can someone please explain to me how Mage Weapons work? I just thought that if you equipped one that, ya your magery goes down, but HOW does that work with fighting with a mage wep? Like if my tamer/mage carries one, how does that benefit her?

I'm just lost. LOL. some, any assitance will be greatly appreciated.

Your magery is used to determine your skill level for the weapon minus whatever the -Skill shows on the wep. So if you have 120 Magery and equip a -20 Mage Weapon, your Magery skill drops to 100 and you have the equivalent weapon skill of GM for that weapon. You can overcap your Magery skill to compensate for the -Skill on the weapon.
